Y/N POV:

***

I let go of the firework handle and walk inside to my room.

It was stupid of me to light it, but-

I don't know.

My door opens and Jeremiah runs in, soaking wet.

"Why'd you do that?" He asks harshly.

"What?" I look up.

"Why'd you light it? Why'd you stop us?!" His voice is growing louder by the minute.

"I don't know." I whisper.

"Yes you do. Why did you do that?"

"I don't know.." I repeat.

"Yes you do. Now tell me." He grips my shoulders so that I stay facing him.

My glossy eyes travel up to meet his.

"I don't want to be too late." I admit quietly, a tear falling.

"What?" He asks.

"I don't want you to choose her over me." Another tear.

"Are you an option?" He asks with a dead serious expression.

"Y/n." His hands move to the sides of my face.

"Are you an option?" He asks slowly but in a firm voice.

I swallow dryly, "Yes." I say hushed.

He pulls me into a deep kiss.

A hungry kiss.

A kiss we should've had weeks ago.

Years ago.

Feelings we should've given into long before this summer.

Sparks fly from all directions around us.

His hands move down to my hips in an effort to pull me closer.

We kiss until we can't breath, but when we pull away we keep our foreheads touching.

Our breath is heavy but I manage to say, "Jere?"

His eyes open and I pull my head back.

"What?" He whispers.

"Why'd you kiss her?" A stray tear falls and I can't help it.

"I wanted you out of my head. I wanted the feelings to go away. I thought- I though that maybe if I kissed her, the feelings for her would come back and the ones for you would leave. But- but they didn't, they won't. They won't leave no matter how hard I try." His voice sounds hoarse, like he's holding back tears as well.

"I get it.." I admit.

"Please, don't be mad I-" He stops. "What?"

"I get it." I repeat. "I mean, I asked Conrad to be my deb date." I let out a small laugh.

"You what?" His voice is stern again, "Tell him no, do a deb break up with him!"

I laugh at this. "Okay, Mr. Overprotective, we kissed five seconds ago calm down."

"No, I don't want to calm down." He says and pulls me close, one hand behind my head, stroking my hair. "You're my girl now." He whispers.

"Your girl..." I repeat quietly and hold on tighter.
