Brynn's hands shook as she held on to the book and covered her mouth in fright. Shaking her head, I knew she didn't want to believe this, this sick joke, but it stared right back at her.

"I'm taking it straight to Jesse, the cop who opened our case, then he'll put a restraining order on her this time."

"But Aaron, how are we going to tell Lilah? We have to tell her and Terri."

"First Police then friends."

I watched her toss the book on the table and treat her hands as though they were dirty, walking over to the kitchen sink.  Glad that she finally believed, I couldn't show her the journal till we reached her place, far far from Alexis. This police order will cause a ripple effect that could turn into a fatal wave, but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

...

A buzz woke me. I turned to see Brynn still sleeping then heard it again. Reaching for my phone on the night stand, I rubbed my eyes. Why was Alex texting me at 7 in the morning?

Where is it?

I ignored her.  There wasn't a chance in hell I would fess up to that.  In fact, this couldn't be more perfect timing to get dressed and head towards the station right now.  Careful not to wake sleeping beauty, I snuck away.

On the drive my phone kept blowing up with Alexandra's texts. She kept accusing me of having it and asking where it was and why I took it. Except she never mentioned what it was.

I sat and waited for Jesse to come in, the desk officer told me he was on his way.  But that didn't prepare me for the last text.

If you don't give it back . . .

What the fuck are you talking about? Let me sleep!

I had enough. She couldn't prove it was me.

I warned you. It's too bad you left Brynn sleeping by herself.

This took a wrong turn too fast!

"Sir, I have to go! There might be an emergency!" I shouted and ripped a piece of paper from the journal to write Brynn's address. "Have officer Montoya meet me at this address, my girlfriend might be in danger! This is the evidence for my case. My name is Aaron Shields!"

I left it all on the counter in front of officer Padilla. I made sure to read his name tag to remember who I spoke with. I heard him say he would call him right away as I ran through the doors.

My keys fumbled in my hands before I could get in the car. I'm not an advocate of driving and talking on the phone but I had to get a hold of Brynn. She wasn't answering the phone. I wanted to get her up and out of that apartment. I'd pick her up and take her somewhere safe.

"Hello?"

"Brynn! Brynn get the fuck out of there! I think Alexis can see you and I don't know where she is!"

"Oh my God! Okay okay. What do you want me to do?"

"Get dressed and meet me down stairs. Don't exit the building till I honk the horn."

"Okay." She sounded horrified. "How fa-far are you?"

"I'm only 4 blocks away, baby. I'll be right there. "

Now what did you tell her, huh Aaron?  I'm afraid you'll be too late. :)

FUCK!

I threw the phone down and sped up, I've never driven this insane before. I ate the red light to turn on Brynn's street. All my senses were heightened. If it came to it I would beat this Alexis to the ground if she laid a finger on  my girl.

Slamming on the brakes I honk my horn several times, letting it linger on the last. I didn't care about abdrupting the peace. There was no sign of Brynn, I kept honking until I thought something already happened to her. I swerved to the closest available space, just enough to not block the road.

I slammed the door about to run over when I saw her exit the building. Relief floods my mind and I stopped to catch my breath. She was about to cross when I heard something alarming.

"Noooo! Brynn stop! BRYNN STOP! STOP!"

She's frozen but doesn't make it to the street. I didn't realize how far I ran to warn her.

Time slowed down.

I saw the look in her eyes, but couldn't hear what she was yelling back at me.

I whipped my head to the side and never imagined I'd see the devil in girl form. The sound of spinning tires and roar of the engine fade, the impact on my legs doesn't faze me.  My body catapults over the hood, everything is spinning and for a second I thought I had a chance . . . until the windshield.
