There has been a time when there's only us
Back when there's no pain; it's just love on the cast
There has been a time when there's only truth
How we lie in our embrace just because it soothes
The morning comes and we rise like doves on flight
The rain pours and we dance behind curtains on sight
Laughter is the language spoken by our hearts
We knew no other words but joy and peace in parts
Heaven existed because we believed it's here
And by the safe hands of time, there's nothing to fear
Even when the sky turns gray and the moon isn't still
Why do I stay through plenty and overflows to fill?

All the empty pieces and the dulled shards
I see them lying on the sand, past the house of cards
Love, where have we seen the madness and poise we carry?
Have we enough masks to cherish what's calm and weary?
The emotions we have aren't all just for show
We toil under the sun yet we somehow can't go
To the place of promise where the echoes ran deep
Where was this paradise love> Where was your leap?
When the silence has turned oppressive and wrong
Who do you turn to? Who was it that buries your song?
It's not me—far from the pages we used to write
Why do I stay while, under smiles, it's the pain I hide?

There will come a time when there will be nothing
But memories of light and of hearts receiving
The beauty of souls, the ease of hope, and the gifts of love
Where were they now, love? When had they been enough?
There will come a time when all that is left is us
The floods storm in to drown out the sounds
Of cruel screams and the begging to be let out
We have trapped ourselves in a fate we can't know about
The story is short but the night of pain is long
We have no more words but condolences to belong
To the march of lost souls running the race of life
Why do I stay even though I have to live through strife?

It wasn't because of the shifting planes and the faults
Was it, then, because of the existence of one who holds
The wheels of the universe—one we cannot deny
So we sit on our hands, watching the world fly by
This is our life now, love—sad as it may be
We may have weathered storms but deep inside are we
Just broken vessels pouring acid until it burns our skin
Bones and nerves frayed—it's all we've ever been
Try as we might, we can't fix everything we held dear
Until it sweeps us away, little by little, year by year
So, love, with all the scathing words left to be heard
Why do I stay even while knowing tomorrow will hurt?

It wasn't because of the shifting planes and the faultsWas it, then, because of the existence of one who holdsThe wheels of the universe—one we cannot denySo we sit on our hands, watching the world fly byThis is our life now, love—sad as it may be...

WElp. This poem is actually the second poem under the same title. (huge thanks to conditional formatting on gsheets for pointing that out. lol.) Still, I love this poem. It's sad. It slaps intestines. Very good. uwu.
