Soulmates were a funny thing.

Those who didn't have them often felt very fortunate, especially after they met people like you.

Soulmates were linked through the force, and their connection really showed. When one was injured, the other would gain the same wound spontaneously. Many called it 'wound sharing'. Those with more careful companions barely noticed their connection, whereas others cursed their partners every day.

You were one of the latter.

One thing was for sure: your soulmate was a fighter.

You woke up with wounds almost every day, and were often struck by pain at random times. What kind of person gained so many injuries in such short periods of time? A soldier, perhaps? A rebel fighter? Someone who was just really clumsy? You had no idea.

All you knew was that it was hard to love someone who caused you so much pain.

You were only a teenager, but had been through more pain than anyone else you knew due to your soulmate's endeavors. They, on the other hand, likely didn't even know you existed. Pain was one of the first signs of a soulmate connection, and since you very rarely did anything that could cause you even the slightest of harm (afraid for the well-being of your already reckless soulmate), you wouldn't be surprised if your soulmate thought they were mateless.

You knew you were yet to meet your soulmate, as the second stage hadn't yet begun - a mind link. After meeting, soulmates were able to communicate without a word passing between them, and could speak even when worlds apart. By that point, the physical connection vanished, and only the mental one remained. You couldn't wait.

Today, you woke up at 0400 to a sharp jab to the stomach. You shrieked and rolled out of bed, landing flat on your face with all the elegance you could muster at such an ungodly hour. Your elbow struck the side of your bed as you fell, and it took all your willpower not to start bawling like a baby. Damned funny bone.

You sat up with a groan, now wide awake, and flicked on your bedside lamp to check your stomach. Sure enough, there was a large bruise already forming, seemingly from your soulmate taking a punch to the torso. You had surely attained a second one from your fall, which said soulmate would feel. Lovely.

"Stop doing stupid shit," you grumbled, hoping that your soulmate would somehow get your message and quit getting hurt so much. You knew it wasn't possible, unless you could somehow carve the message into your arm without further injuring yourself, but it never hurt to hope. You briefly considered getting the message tattooed on your arm, but dropped the idea upon realizing that it likely wouldn't show up on your soulmate's arm as anything more than a patch of swollen skin.

With a sigh, you decided to get up and start your day.

Said day consisted of watching holovids and reading until your mom got up to take you to the market.

Hours later, you arrived at your destination, and split off from your family to search for what you wanted. You stopped by your friend's shop, bought a few things, then went for lunch at a nearby cantina.

Strangely, the streets seemed busier than usual. And everyone seemed to be moving in the same direction. Curious, you went against the flow of foot traffic, searching for what your neighbors were avoiding. It wasn't long before you found it:

A group of clone troopers.

Republic forces weren't exactly an uncommon sight on your planet, and they often passed through, but for some reason, you felt particularly drawn to this group. They were marked with blue decals on their battle-worn armor, and lead by a tall man with a scar over his eye.

You remained at a distance, allowing them to continue their sweep of the area before breaking off into small groups and leaving town. Only a few remained in the square, accompanied by their commanding officers. Your gaze swept lazily over those who remained, until you felt a sudden tug in your chest, drawing your eye to the center of the crowd.

That was when you saw them.

Your soulmate - instantly recognizable to you. Between your matching bruised arms and the flutter in your chest when you spotted them, you drew the conclusion that this was the person you had been looking for. As you stared, you felt yourself being pulled towards them by a strange, invisible force. Your feet moved on their own, and as you drew nearer, a name echoed in your mind:

Ahsoka Tano.

Jedi Padawan, Commander of the 501st, trainee of Jedi General Anakin Skywalker, and, of course, an incredibly reckless yet efficient fighter.

"Hello there," you greeted shyly after reaching a place behind Ahsoka. The young Togruta turned to face you, and froze when the two of you made eye contact.

"Hi," she whispered.

A smile tugged at your lips. "Ahsoka, right?"

"That's me," she confirmed with a small nod. "Y/n?"

"Mhm."

"Nice to meet you."

"You too."

You stood there awkwardly for a moment, staring at each other, before you broke the silence.

"So... do you wanna hang out?" you peeped timidly. "Assuming you're not busy, of course."

Ahsoka seemed surprised, but grinned nonetheless. "Oh, of course! I'm just about done here, anyways. There's only boring stuff left." She turned away momentarily, and called out to the tall Jedi who had accompanied her and the troopers. "Master! I'll be back soon."

The scarred Jedi nodded, a knowing smirk forming on his face as his gaze drifted between you and Ahsoka. You ducked your head to avoid his eye while Ahsoka poked her tongue out at him. They seemed close. Almost like siblings.

Ahsoka took your hand, and the two of you set off into the bustling market, in no real hurry. You showed her around town, stopped by your favourite stores to look at strange nicknacks that caught Ahsoka's curious eye, and enjoyed lunch by a nearby lake.

"So... what happened this morning?" she asked, smirking as she rubbed her bruised elbow. "Fight off a thug?"

You laughed. "Not even close. I fell out of bed. I'll leave the fighting to you."

"Heh. Sorry about that." She began toying with the fabric of her pants, avoiding your gaze. "I didn't know I had a soulmate until a few hours ago."

"That was my intention." You scratched your neck, shifting in place awkwardly. "I've... really been looking forward to meet you, actually."

"Even with all the injuries?" Ahsoka asked with a laugh.

"Because of all the injuries," you informed her, grinning. "I don't suppose I'll be getting them anymore now."

"Oh, right." Ahsoka snickered, face flushing with embarrassment. "I forgot about that."

You stared at each other for a long moment, smiling softly. You hadn't yet noticed that the two of you had set aside your lunches, or that you had once again joined hands.

Ahsoka bit her lip, hesitant, then leaned ever so slightly closer to you. You did the same. When she noticed your movement, she smiled, then closed the distance, locking you in a love-filled kiss.

After a long moment, the two of you slowly pulled apart, resting your foreheads together. You kept your eyes closed, a giddy grin on your face as you focused on the idea of having finally found your soulmate. There was just one thing left to do...

"I'm glad you're here," you thought, hoping that the mind link wasn't just a myth, and that she could hear you.

Half a moment later, you got your answer.

"So am I, Y/n," Ahsoka's voice replied, filling your head like a soft melody. Though a strange concept, sharing that small piece of your mind with her felt like the most natural thing in the world. "So am I."
