Ties That Bind

Warmth seeped into the very fiber of Cyra's being, starting at the tips of her toes before slowly moving throughout her body, getting stronger and warmer as it worked its way to her chest.

Ever so delicately, her eyelashes fluttered before flicking upon.

Her sight was blurry for a moment before focusing rather sharply on the eggshell coloured ceiling. She took a deep breath before wincing, feeling the bruising ache in her lungs and ribs.

Tilting her head slightly, she focused on the sight of the beautiful man sleeping beside the bed. He was leaning back into the fold of the chair, looking very uncomfortable, yet very much at peace.

Lucifer had one arm draped across his chest, small noticeable rings glinting in the sunlight that streamed in from the window. The rest of him was cast in considerable shadow, one half of his face lit up by the brilliance of the sun.

For a few minutes, Cyra watched Lucifer sleep before gently trying to shift herself up into a seated position. Almost as if in instinct, Lucifer's eyes snapped open, and he immediately turned his eyes to Cyra who had yet to notice.

He watched her wince and sigh in pain before finally reaching a somewhat comfortable position.

"You should be resting." Lucifer couldn't help but say.

She looked over at him and their eyes met.

He looked exhausted, like he'd been up all night. Cyra wondered if she looked the same.

"I have rested, now I have other stuff to do." Cyra replied, her voice hoarse.

"You're not leaving this bed until you are at one hundred percent strength, Cyra." Lucifer replied, his tone authoritive and strong.

"I'm fine."

"No, you're not. Stop it-" Lucifer leaned forward to stop Cyra from pushing her blankets off herself.

"Luci, Zeus could be getting ready to attack right now!" Cyra replied before groaning in pain, she doubled over at her loss of breath.

"I could care less about what Zeus is doing, you are all that matters to me. Do you understand?" Lucifer asked, his eyes flashing its rare flash of red.

"This town matters to me." Cyra replied, annoyed at Lucifer's nonchalance.

"And you're no help to it, dead. Or exhausted. Are you?" Lucifer replied as he pushed the blankets back one last time.

Cyra fell back into the pillows with a sigh, half admitting defeat. Sunlight warmed her fingertips as she spread them across the blankets.

"I can't sit here and do nothing, Lucifer." She replied, her hair falling in her face at the small movements.

"You're not doing nothing; you're resting and preparing for the big battle. Cyra, there are people and warriors out there that can do the small footwork. Dad, Michael, you and I... We're the big battle. It'll be up to us to stop them, and we can't do that if the most powerful witch is out of action." Lucifer replied, passionately as he leaned forward and took her hand.

"So this isn't personal for you? You're truly going to fight for this town?" Cyra asked, her eyes roaming over his face to detect any lies or faults.

"I love you, more than anything in my eternity. And you love this town. Therefore, I will do whatever it takes to keep the people and places you care about safe. There's nothing more important to me than you, Cyra." Lucifer replied, seriously.

Cyra couldn't help but look down at her hands, mostly out of nervousness for her next words.

"I think we need to talk." Cyra spoke softly, lifting her head to peer up at Lucifer.

His face hardened.

"If you tell me, that we need to break up. I'm going to-" Lucifer didn't even finish that sentence.

He just looked away.

"It's nothing like that. It's about what happened at Zeus's place. The power I used." Cyra replied, as Lucifer looked at her again.

"I saw it. The white light. Your entire body was glowing with it. I'd never seen power like that." Lucifer replied, tilting his head slightly.

"That's because it doesn't exist. I literally pulled magic from nothing. Pure nothing. I had earth energy going until Zeus attacked me and then I just pulled on something and there was nothing there to pull on. But my magic exploded, and he couldn't touch me. His power was useless against it, but you were glowing when you caught me. I saw it with my own eyes." Cyra replied, so sure of herself.

"Okay? I don't know what you're trying to say?" Lucifer asked, confused.

"I'm a witch of earth and water. When I start pulling on magic that doesn't belong to me, it can turn you into someone that people can barely recognise. I used pure magic, something very few witches know how to do. I can't wield that kind of power. It would destroy me." Cyra tried to explain.

Lucifer shook her head, still not following.

"When you caught me. you absorbed that magic. You levelled me out. To put it into a short sentence..." Cyra paused and Lucifer tightened his hold on her hand.

"You bound yourself to me." Cyra finished, before taking a deep breath.

"Bound?" Lucifer echoed.

She nodded her head.

Lucifer said nothing so she spoke again.

"Remember when you were first teaching me how to harness my emotions and use them to direct my magic? Think of the bond like that, except with deadly consequences." Cyra replied, before wincing at her own words.

"Deadly, how?" Lucifer got up from his chair to walk over to the window and look out.

"If you feel pain, I feel pain and vice versa. If you get injured, I get injured and vice versa. If I-" Cyra cut off.

Lucifer folded his hands behind his back.

"If I die, so do you and vice versa." Cyra finished as she watched him.

There was silence in the room before Lucifer sighed.

"If only you'd let me take you away from this place. Back to Hell, back to everything we had. We wouldn't have to deal with this. I wouldn't have to face the possibility of losing you forever." Lucifer mostly mumbled to himself.

"Yet here we are. With a tie that binds us together." Cyra replied, before looking back down at the blanket.
