in the closet

Like a pair of jewel thieves, we held our laughter in -

as we snuck onto the rooftop of a towering old building

We watched the mellow sunset -

and all of the light in the world progressively retire

The wind had dropped, leaves laid still at our feet

Soon, we found ourselves under the enveloping night sky

An ocean of black and stars that flickered like a flame

Our own piece of heaven though it was a clandestine blade
