"Marrying a woman because of her look is like eating a bird because of it song"

~NICK~

I tossed the business card Nelly had left behind carelessly on the coffee table persuading my inner voice it was unnecessary to pull such a stunt on her. I wouldn't want someone tailing every of my movement without my knowledge.

The television preoccupies me for some minutes as a football match came on screen; it'd lasted for a moment for my stubborn eyes once again drifted from the television to where the card laid. Against my will, I pick it up fashionably tapping it around my thumb anxiously then eyed the glass of wine staring back at me; It's was so inviting to be ignored.

I downed it contained in a rush shutting my eyes as it thawed my throat, I reached for my phone and dial in the digit praying earnestly for whoever it was not to answer. Thankfully he didn't pick and I didn't wait for the line to die off. I hang up instead and drop the phone far away from me pretending to be interested in the football match.

My attention was divided when the front door bust open and my phone blared out at the same time. I ignored the phone and glance up. There stood Lauren. We hold eye contact for a moment and my phone interrupted yet again. I took a glanced at it and the number I'd called had ringed back.

Lauren hissed and dragged her mini-box past me without offering the slightest acknowledgement of me.

Upon seeing her attitude, I reached a decision.

"Hello, I have something I'd need your help on but can I ring you in a few minutes, say twenty minutes?" I asked into the phone getting on my feet.

"Oh, my apology, this is Nick Walter"  I replied when a deep voice demanded who I was.

"Okay, thank you" I ended the conversation and went upstairs.

"How was your trip?" I asked Lauren as I walk into the room to find her unpacking her bags.

"Fine" She answered in a monotone voice.

"I tried calling but couldn't reach you"

She paused her activity and sighed with her eyes shut for a second.

"I was out of network coverage," She says resuming her routine then took some toiletries to the dressing table and walk past me to the bed drawer searching for what I don't know.

I nodded sensing her reluctance to have a conversation with me but sat on the edge of the bed nonetheless.

"Jackie gave birth some days ago, a baby girl"

She stopped her search for a second to give me an eyebrow raised then shrug going back to her search.

"Well, extend my congratulations to her if you see her"

"Yea"

I stood up and buried my hands in my pocket, "I'll leave you to arrange your stuff" I point to the things she'd scattered all over the bed, "I'll be in Josiah's room" I added which earned a nod from her as she's still pulling out the drawer probably pretending to be in search of something to get me to leave.

I walk out and leaned on the door once I'd lock it, I brought out my phone from my pocket and call the number back.

"Hello, it's me again" I chuckle dryly to myself. I took a peek at Josiah's room. He was still sound asleep so I decided the balcony was the best place to have this discussion.

"Exactly, that's why I called. I got your contact from Nelly"

"What can I do for you, Mr Nick?" The man asked.
