Fourth of July in downtown Portland is a lovely, loud thing. Every person lines up at the edges of the river, and they come hours early to set up their chairs. And when the lights start, the entire city goes dark and silent, and the only thing that can be heard is the burst of fireworks in the air.
Arizona had gone with her family every year for the two-thirds of her life, and as soon as she had been deemed old enough, she’d go with her friends. Every year, the friends had planned out what would happen, but this year there had been procrastination involved, and now Arizona has no idea what the hell is happening. She taps a message and sends it to Crosley.
