Hello, fellow Furians! So a long while again, I was watching this episode, when I noticed something VERY interesting and made me pause and think:

It's this scene here:

Favorite Son? (Snotlout Headcanon/Theory)

(Taken from Season 2 Episode 11: "A Time to Skrill")

Since I lost my Savage article (thank you, computer), and will need some time to rewrite it, I'm writing and posting THIS article because it's something to keep my mind off of that depressing event.

"...Especially me. His favorite son."

This quote from Snotlout kinda bothered me. And I'll tell you why. I had always assumed that Snotlout was the only son of Spitelout. However, I keep forgetting that DreamWorks hates showing families larger than 4 and any extended family or any siblings or parents that the Gang may have are barely mentioned and never shown!

However, this need Snotlout has to please his Father and seek his approval makes actual sense when you take into consideration that Snotlout may have a possible older or younger brother (possibly more likely than the former) that he competes with for their Father's affection.

Here are my headcanons/theories to explain this:

Snotlout has an older brother who's married and has a family of his own and is in the spitting image of Spitelout,

Snotlout has a younger brother who hogs the family's attention because he's young and cute and acts a lot like Spitelout and the other Louts.

(Of course, that's assuming that he only has ONE brother. There could possibly be more.)

That being said, I doubt that this is it. Else Snotlout would always be compared to the other brother(s) and also Snotlout would not be getting so much pressure from Spitelout, in my opinion, if the other brother(s) are getting the more appropriate attention.

BUT... there is ONE theory that I have that would not only make SO MUCH sense, but would be utterly tragic and full of emotional whump!

Can you guess what it is?

Snotlout has an older brother who died when Snotlout was very young, and Spitelout, grieving for the son he deemed to be the perfect Jorgenson, puts pressure on Snotlout, his only surviving son, to step up to the plate and take his deceased brother's place as the scion of the Jorgenson clan.

Bonus: The older brother was named after Spitelout.

Double Bonus: The older brother was best at everything.

Triple Bonus: Spitelout constantly compares Snotlout to his deceased brother to "encourage" him.

Quadruple Bonus: Spitelout has a portrait of his older brother as a shrine and tells Snotlout stories about his brother to "inspire" him.

Quintuple Bonus: Snotlout has mixed feelings about his deceased brother. On one hand, he idolizes him. On the other, he envies and resents him, both for being the preferred son, for being good at everything, and for being dead and putting all of the pressure on HIM.

I mean, it all makes sense. And can explain why Spitelout puts so much pressure on Snotlout to be the "perfect Jorgenson"! And why Snotlout says this quote in "A Time to Skrill", along with other translations that he speaks on his father's behalf that he's wanted his Father to say to him his whole life!

Am I looking too much into this? Is it possible that this is just a coincidence and that Snotlout doesn't HAVE any brothers?

Eh... maybe. Perhaps. It's possible.

Buuuut, nothing's going to take me from this headcanon. I'm staying on this headcanon. And I'm firing it, too. Hehe. XD

Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoyed it! ^_^
