Connors POV

A daughter.

I have a daughter.

I can't believe no one told me. The minute I looked into her Georgia blues I knew that she was mine. She's got those same eyes that run in my family. God I'm such an idiot. Why the hell wouldn't Savannah have told me?

Oh probably because you left her crying on her doorstep when you left for the military.

Yeah, I'm an idiot. I know how bad I messed up when I left her and I miss her more than anything. I don't regret going into the military, but I do regret not telling her earlier. And the way I left after spending that amazing night with her. I can't believe I was so stupid.

But that still doesn't explain why she wouldn't tell me I have a daughter. I mean, that's my child too and I deserve to know. But then again, she probably hates my guts and never wants to talk to me again.

I walked into the house after wiping my shoes on the mat and took off my hat. I was angry. But not at Savannah, at myself. I got her pregnant and she had to go through that alone, all because of me.

"Hey honey, did you return those books?" my mom asked as I walked into the living room.

"Did you know?" I asked, ignoring her question.

"What?" she looked at me in confusion.

"Did you know that Savannah's daughter was mine?" I repeated. My mom got a guilty expression on her face and I scoffed. "Seriously!? Nobody thought to tell me I had a daughter!?"

"Connor, she asked us not to." she stood up from the couch. "And as much as I don't think it was right, you have to understand that she was completely heartbroken by you. Even I know that what you did was wrong. Both of you made mistakes."

"But mine wasn't keeping a whole daughter away from her!"

"Right, yours was just leaving her and she had to raise Hazel on her own." my mom snapped. "You listen to me son, that girl was completely ruined when you left her. She didn't eat or shower or even leave the house. It got to the point where she had to move in with her mom because that old house reminded her of you. And as much as you hurt her, she still allowed me to know my granddaughter. That takes strength to put what my own son did to her behind her just so I could spend time with Hazel. So I'm not gonna side with you until you fix what you've done to her!"

With that she stormed out of the room leaving me to stand there upset and hurt. Man, I'm a piece of shit.
