"Dad, I know this seems sudden, but I really thought about this and I'm not rushing in," said Akko.

Her father stood up.  "Tell that to your mother.  I'll check on her now."  He left the room.

Akko squeezed Diana's hand.  "I'm sorry, Diana.  I guess I should've talked to them in private."  She raised a clenched fist in determination.  "I'll convince them, one way or the other.  Don't worry!"

"Umm... About that... Bear with me... I'm confused.  I don't remember proposing to you and I don't remember that you proposed to me either," said Diana.

"Oh."  A drop of sweat rolled down Akko's temple.  "But... the ritual... at your house... I... I thought we became engaged?"

"The ritual creates a binding.  Witches in a relationship may do that to pledge their love to each other but it isn't a marriage proposal."

"Oh... I see..."  Akko stared at her half-eaten dessert, blushing with embarrassment.  Outside, a dog barked and cats screeched at each other.  A gate opened and closed.  A bicycle bell chimed and friendly voices greeted hello.  She rubbed the back of her head sheepishly and laughed.  "Ehehehe... I guess I jumped to the wrong conclusion."

Diana kissed her cheek.  "It's all right.  I should've explained it more.  At that time, I was really relieved that you agreed.  For now, let us tell your parents properly."

"Ok."  Akko quickly ate the rest of her dessert.

About ten minutes later, her Mom and Dad returned.  Her Mom showed a magazine with handsome men dressed in kimonos.  She pointed to a page with names and numbers.  "Only Nemunai-san can meet us tonight.  Masonishi-san can see us tomorrow but it cuts close to our train."

Akko stared at the magazine for a few moments before her eyes widened in horror.  Her Mom was trying to find her a husband!  "But... but... isn't he old?"

"Both have a lot of experience."  She turned the page to a smiling man in a finely cut kimono.  "Here, just look at this.  Doesn't he look good?"

"Well... I guess... but that's not the point!  What about me?  Don't I get to choose?"

"Of course, that's why we're seeing both.  So dress up."  She gathered dishes from the table and placed them in the sink.  "It's getting late and I don't want Nemunai-san to wait too long.  Oh!  I forgot my purse!"  She went upstairs.

Akko couldn't believe this.  Just because she said that she planned to marry a girl, her Mom was pushing potential husbands on her.  "This is too sudden!"

Her father gestured with his palms up.  "We send you overseas to study witchcraft and then you bring back a bride?  What're we supposed to do?"

"But I..."
