     Vixen felt like crying.

What... who could possibly interrupt them? Why? Did Leo change his mind? Why'd he knock in case he did?

He looked at Crow, who'd fallen asleep some time ago, unlike himself. The man's expression was blank, mouth slightly open and his chest waving slowly.

Vixen ran his fingers down his smooth cheek and gulped dryly. He would check who it was first and only if needed, he'd inform Crow.

With careful movements, he untangled himself from the man and tiptoed downstairs. Meanwhile, three other hesitant knocks went heard.

Once he was at the ground floor, he went to the basement and quickly pulled a pair of pants on, ragged and of a worn out blue color. After slipping into a grey hoodie, he went up and looked through the keyhole of the metal door.

The darkness of night didn't let him see anything.

With a shaky sigh, he straightened up, glanced upwards indecisively and, eventually, cracked the door open with a creak.

     ...

Four wide eyes glanced at him, glistening in the moonlight almost pleadingly. Once they looked him over, they widened even more and went out of sight as the figures bowed their heads.

"Who... Um..." Vixen leaned down, hands on his knees. "Hello." he chose instead, not at all experienced with children.

The girl and the boy had to be the same age as Ansley was, around 6 years old. Vixen's heart trembled a little from how familiar their gazes were. So clear and sincere, as only kids could offer since they had nothing to hide.

The boy looked at his companion with an involuntary pout caused by his big cheeks. The girl was insistently looking at the ground, probably scared.

"May I help you? Are you lost?" Vixen crouched down as to catch her eyes.

She looked up at the boy instead, her messy dark hair flipping with the sudden movement. The boy took her hand and moved her behind his taller frame.

     "Is Mr. Beans here?"

Vixen frowned confused. "The... TV character? Mr. Bean?"

The kids exchanged a confused glance. "Uh... yes?" the boy tried, fumbling with his dirty jacket. "I don't know..."

Vixen sighed, scratching his head confused. The girl peeked from behind the boy, eyeing his ears longingly. Vixen grinned, wiggling them.

     "Want to feel them?"

She only moved her arm towards him, remaining after the boy. Tiny, fragile fingers felt his ears hesitantly, though after a few pats they became rather rough from the curiousness. Vixen didn't mind, letting her be.

"So, Mr. Beans..." Vixen sighed, then halted. "Are you possibly referring to the man that lives here?"

They both nodded vigorously, and the girl let her arm down.

     "What do you..."

But then he heard the creak of the metal door and stood up to see Crow there. His eyes were barely open since he just woke up, eyebrows lowered as he eyed the two. He was holding two cans of... beans.

     Mr. Beans?

Vixen gaped in realization as he watched him hand the cans over. The two little ones hugged them to their chest and thanked him politely, moving to leave.
