In Remembrance Of:

106 10 7

When I die
I'd like to be remembered
Not as a speck of dust floating in the air
But as a cloud that floats freely in the sky

I'd like people to look up
And sigh a long and heavy sigh
With thoughts of exceeding the cloud's limits
And reaching for the stars

And hoping that one day
The thought of looking toward the sky
Would be the reminiscence they need to find their life's calling

As mine is to bring forth
An inner calling of peace
With the contextual outgrowth of loving my fellow being
For who they are inside of their skin And not
Who they are outside of their hearts

And for those who come forth
Into my outstretched arms
For a sheltering of remembrance
Warmth
Kindness
Hope
And strength

As one who follows the word of the peace maker
Instead of the news creator

Spinning and weaving words
that would bind strong heartstrings
For the loss of this weakening humanity

As one who creates a legacy that
Is made to bring forth the best of human beings

For
After my long-awaited departure
That is how
I would like to be remembered
------------------
*In remembrance of three beautiful and young souls, who had their lives and dreams taken away from them by a hateful and ignorant man, who committed an act of unforgettable terror. May Allah grant them Jannah, In Sha Allah. I will always remember you,
Deah Barakat, Yusor Abu-Salha, and Razan Abu-Salha. Our Three Winners. Three young Muslims who lived in a society where it's hardest to fit in with your own identity without being judged for it. Thank you for making the most of this temporary life, because I will remember your acts that helped me to want to reach even higher for the stars than before.

**This is also in remembrance of many other lives. The murders of Canadian Native Mustafa Mattan and American Sheikh-Hussein went unnoticed by the media, as they were wrongfully underrepresented. I want to remind everyone that every innocent human life matters, regardless of race or religion. Please don't let their deaths go to haste, because color should not dictate hierarchy.
Please remember that every individual life tells an individual story, and one group of people cannot represent an entire world of others.
