The Unity Program? It's, well, supposed to be this ground initiative by The Order, handpicking 'promising' individuals from each sector. They say it's for unity, preparing us to bridge the divides between our sectors, to work together for the 'greater good'. But really, it's shrouded in secrecy. Nobody truly knows why they're chosen or what they're in for. Some say it's just a propaganda exercise. Others think it's a death sentence with fancy branding. Rumor has it they're sending these recruits out beyond the megacities, to do what exactly... no one's sure. But if you ask me, it's less about unity and more about survival. The Order's survival, not ours.

In a world where humanity clings to survival within towering megacities, divided into sectors that dictate every aspect of life, The Order has initiated a mysterious new project: the Unity Program. Sold as a chance to bridge the sectors, the Program promises to shape a generation of leaders prepared to take on the future's most daunting challenges. The world ended long ago, riddled with plague and zombies and destruction. But humanity survived, and humanity evolved. The Infection that helped bring the world to its knees also changed humans in ways to help them keep living in this now broken world ready to be rebuilt. This story isn't about how a hero will rise and bring the world back to what it was Pre-Fall. This story is about me, an ordinary Remanat living life through the world day to day as a mercenary. A beginner mercenary as everyone likes to remind me. The others in my group have been calling me 'Rookie' since I joined them three months ago. I'm beginning to wonder if they actually know my name. We have been hired to help the New Reach Caravan travel across the wastelands to Philly Del Phia, and this is the perfect opportunity to show them that I'm not just a dumb Rookie. I'm actually quite good at my job. I just happen to get distracted by one certain Eight-Ball, but it's not my fault he's good-looking, and charming, and funny... Anyway, all I have to do is help my group get the caravan to Del Phia. Should be an easy enough job. Just avoid the zoms and keep clear of the Raiders, and we should be fine... Right? I am not from this planet. Hell, I am technically not from this galaxy. However, that doesn't change the fact I am here now, and my job is to save what I can on this forsaken planet and what's left of its inhabitants. The problem is that not everyone wants to be saved. A strange substance filled their oxygen with gas they effected 97% of the population and killed the remaining who didnt get effected. No one knew where this came from but it was dangerous to leave it unsolved. A man rose up to fix this situation with his own method and was hoping to succeed but, he had trouble reaching his goals. The World went into chaos knowing they can't be saved. Civilizations went down, resources began to rot, children and adults died out on short time. How did it come to this? Follow the story of Vanessa to find out what happened and how it became to be.

This is the first time I've written a story like this, however I feel that I should explain some plot points since I did try to stick as close to the anime canon as possible but there are a few things I'd like to clear up first. This story starts at the fall of Wall Maria from your perspective as a young girl who lived in the Shiganshina district, I'll leave the age unspecified if I can but at the end she will definitely be over 18 years old. Then I will go into a time skip after developing the relationship between the reader and Levi as he helps the reader through their depression, I just wanted to get some background into the story first since it's important to how the reader ends up meeting Levi.
