The sun faded behind brilliantly lit clouds, pink and orange and red. Wisps of cloud reached out, stretching to embrace the Brooklyn rooftops one last time before relinquishing to the pull of the horizon. Ever-churning factories spilled smoke into the air, greasy gray pillars that drifted away in a crisp wind.
