The scales seemed to glow in the darkness of the room. Their pale blue color seemed as smooth as glass and I couldn't resist reaching toward them. You shouldn't touch them, a voice in the back of my head warned, it's not safe. But I push the voice aside and step closer. It's asleep anyway, stroking it won't wake it. So I close the gap between myself and the pedestal. I gently lay two fingers on the scales and slowly brush downward. I was right, they are as smooth as a glassy sea. I eye it's head, still stroking it in the same manner as before. It's a diamond shape, and has scales rimming it that look almost like rubies. They couldn't be, could they? Attached to a living creature? I gaze in the opposite direction, down it's long body, about 5 feet long. Almost as long as I am tall. I don't know why this doesn't scare me. I've felt a weird sense of calm sense I entered this room.
And I like it.
