India boosts its Gurukul system of education, whereby, students resided at the house of their teacher till the time teacher felt that he has imparted all that he could. Varieties of subjects were taught, ranging from Sanskrit to Mathematics to Astrology to Life sciences. With the arrival of the British, the Indian education system turned upside down. Lots of reforms took place during the colonial era. Though one can say that the educational reforms were introduced to change the denudated educational system of India, the truth of the matter is that the educational system introduced was more to fulfil the British requirements of hiring Indians who were Indian in colour British in taste. The education system of India was thus transformed from research and experiments to clerical and rote-learning.
