When the famous Newsboys Strike of 1899 comes knocking courtesy of 'Cowboy' Jack Kelly, the fearless leader of the Bronx is forced to show New York who she really is and what she is made of. Mattie Swanson never wanted love - she didn't need a giant love story to make her feel worthy - but she's going to find out that love has the habit of forming in even the most determined of hearts. Mattie Swanson forced herself to forget family but she might just find out that family is the most important thing we have. All her life Mattie had been knocked down, now she's fighting to stay standing.

Three years had gone by. Christian and Abby had done films here and there. It's now December of 1997. Abby and Christian are both twenty three. Philippa is now five. Abby had just finished working on a big movie in 1996. Both her and Christian are going to the premiere, but Abby has been hiding something from him, Philippa, and her family for a month. How will Christian react when he finds out? (I'm not the the best at descriptions so read on to find out what happens.)

Rule Number 1: No Girls Allowed. That was law at the Newsies Lodge. No girls. period. That was until Jack Kelly saw the poor girl in the alley way, underneath a tarp stretched between 2 trash cans. One pair of scissors later you could pass as a boy. He tossed you some clothes and told you to follow. Gears. that's what they called you. you were quiet, but they could see you thinking almost. And no one knew your secret, besides Jack. It was well kept, besides the occasional blood stain on the sheets, but that could pass as a rough beating from the Delcancy Brothers. Until you fucked everything up.

In 1899, Jack Kelly just wanted to give up. The strike wasn't turning in the newsboys' favor, and he'd almost been caught by Snyder four times in one month. He needed a miracle. Instead, he got an eye-rolling, sarcasm-giving, blonde-haired smart-ass who seemed to have come from nowhere. It's 1969, and 17-year-old Gemma Mullaney's world is spinning out of her control. A former art student now turned peace advocate, Gemma's boyfriend has just been drafted into the war in Vietnam and is said to be missing in action. She is afraid she will lose him like she lost her father the year prior. After a visit to her father's headstone one evening, she feels as though someone is following her home, much to her horror. The next morning, she wakes up to be on her own in New York City, currently having its own inner battles such as trolley worker riots and the newsboys' strike of 1899.

Caroline Jacobs doesn't have the easiest life in the world. When she was eight, her and her parents were evicted from their home and moved in with her aunt, uncle, her same age cousin Davey, and her one year old cousin Les. Her father died shortly after they moved, and her mother died when she was sixteen. Caroline's uncle lost his job when she was seventeen, so Davey and Les were withdrawn from school to work as newsies. What happens when Caroline gets roped into the strike?
