season 10, episode 4 - puffin' on the ritz

WHEN ALLISON ARRIVED AT THE GALA, SHE GRABBED a glass of champagne before walking around the venue, ready to impress the people so they could donate money to the hospital. After a conversation with someone, Allison walked up to Cristina and Meredith the same exact time Owen did.

"We are in trouble." Owen stated, "Avery bet the farm on this party."

"I just want to be home." Allison groaned, "I can't impress people. I suck at that."

"Listen to you three." Cristina rolled her eyes at her friends, "This is not that difficult. Just be charming. Use the same skills you would if you were picking someone up at a bar." She looked at Meredith, knowing that's how she met Derek, "I know you know how to do that." She looked at Owen, "And you need to practice if we're gonna get serious about meeting new people."

Owen sighed, "You need to let that go."

"Ooh." Cristina hummed, "Richie rich, ten o'clock."

***

Allison decided to charm the man by flirting with him, asking questions that she didn't really care about. She used her charm by smiling and talking all about the wanders of Neurosurgery and the hospital.

"Where can we put our donation?" The man asked her, pulling out his check book.

Allison smiled, "By that box under the stairs." She pointed at the box. The man began to walk off as she thanked him.

After talking to more people, Jackson began his speech when one of the entertainers fell and got injured. Ari, the party planner who planned the gala made her way over there when the entertainer fell down on her.

The doctors gathered as they waited on the paramedics to come, and once they did Owen and Callie left to attend them, leaving the rest of the doctors at the gala, to continue to raise money.

Allison shared her idea with Jackson—although its awkward between them, they both decided to not let it affect work.

The party was dying down after the accident. There they were both of them leading the people to the gallery above the O.R. where Callie and Owen were operating.

"Okay." Allison smiled as she pressed the button to speak to Callie and Owen down the O.R. "Uh, Doctors, we have visitors."

"Now if you'll notice the pins that Dr. Torres is drilling into place—that is the external fixation I was telling you about."

One of the people in the crowd looked at the doctors beside them, "Are—Are we allowed to be here?"

Allison nodded, "Yes, we spoke with Irina's husband. He said that if there's one thing she believes in, it's that the show must go on. Now we showed you guys a circus tonight, but this—-" Allison gestured down the gallery, "This is the real show. This is what we do here."

"We are gonna get this woman back on her feet, and before you leave this evening. I would ask that you please consider helping us get back on ours." Jackson continued.

"How much do you need?"

Jackson and Allison smiled at one another, knowing their plan had worked, once Jackson looked away, Allison knew that maybe it was best to move on from him.

It's been weeks and he hasn't uttered a word about her confession—she wasn't going to wait forever and she took the silence as her answer.

***

The sound of the phone ringing made Allison quite nervous. The gala was not a success but they were able to get the money they needed.

"Hello?" The voice answered. Allison could hear some shuffling on the other end.

"Micheal, I love you." Allison began, "We're engaged and I know you need time to think but I'm choosing you."

"Really?" Micheal asked, he couldn't help but doubt her word.

"Yes." Allison nodded, looking back at the hospital. "So I'll be waiting for you to come back from your trip."

Micheal chuckled, "I'll see you when I get home, we'll start planning the wedding."

"Okay." Allison said, although she told him she chose him, she couldn't help but feel the guilt rise up—because in reality if Jackson were to confess to her, she'll choose the green-eyed doctor over and over again. To her it will always be Jackson Avery.

S10 EP6: MAP OF YOU

A couple weeks after the gala, Derek and Allison joined the research for brain mapping with Callie. The past few weeks, the three of them have been progressing. "Open your hand, okay, Mickey?"

Derek walked back to the computer, as Mickey tried to open his hand, "Like this?"

"Exactly." Allison smiled, "Like that."

"Yeah baby!" Mickey grinned, and the group of doctors clapped.

"Okay, now close it." Derek told him, "As he thinks about movements, we see brain activity here and here." Derek showed the images on the screen, "These areas lighting up. Now the brain-computer interface is the key to new possibilities, whether it be robotic prosthetics...for quadriplegics like Mickey..."

"Or letting me kick ass at 'Tetris' again." The room erupted in laughter, "Hey, check this out, you guys." Mickey held up a pinkie, "Hang loose!" The people began to clap once more, "Hey, where's Dr. Torres? How's she missing this? This is the best that we've ever done."

"Shane, text her again, will you?" Derek asked their intern in a lowered voice.

"Is something wrong?" Ross asked the two attending's, who's brows were furrowed.

"There's not a lot of temporal lobe activity." Allison quietly told him, as she pointed at the screen, "Nothing lights up here."

"Is it a bad connection in the sensor?"

Allison sighed, "I hope so."

"If not, it's a bad connection in his brain." Derek looked at Ross, "Schedule Mickey for an M.R.I." Before Ross could leave Derek grabbed a red mug, "I brought this from home accidentally. Can you just put it in with my diaper bag and stuff?"

"And uh, we'll try and find Torres." Allison nodded.

***

Allison and Derek walked into the E.R. their eyes scanning for Callie. Once they did, both of them walked towards her, Derek grabbed her attention, "You okay?"

"Yeah, why?" Callie asked, as Allison went to her right side.

"We tested the sensors with Mickey Wenschler this morning." Allison informed her, as the three surgeons walked towards the Nurse's station, "And—And it was a success, but he kept asking why you weren't there."

"Uh, Well." Callie hesitated, "Didn't you—you guys get my text?"

"Your text said, 'won't be there.'' Derek retorted.

"Okay, well, uh, here's the thing—moving back into my place made me feel like I really need to move back into my place, you know concentrate on what makes me, me." Both Allison and Derek nodded their heads since Arizona and Callie are on a break at the moment, "I do regenerative cartilage. It's what my TED talk was about—"

"What are you saying?" Derek interrupted her.

"I'm not going forward with the project." Allison face fell, and so did Derek's, "You both should totally run with it, though."

"No." Allison denied feeling too great taking someone's idea and making it hers, "This is your project. Your idea."

Derek agreed with Allison, "Mickey's your patient. I can't do this. I don't have time. Meredith and I are in over our heads with the kids, and she needs time, too."

"And Micheal and I are too busy planning our wedding." Allison spoke. Micheal was back in town and once he came back, three days later the two were planning their wedding.

Callie shrugged, "So maybe we just drop it. No harm done, right?"

"Oh, and tell that to Mickey Wenschler."

"Mickey will be alright." Callie assured the both of them. Stephanie walked pass by but stopped when Callie got her attention, "Edwards, I just saw your broke ankle. No surgery, just splint it."

"He won't be all right, it's gonna kill him." Derek said, as they both went their separate ways.

***

Mickey's scans showed he has a tumor, which is why both Allison and Derek are standing in front of him as they told him the news, there was nothing they could do about the tumor.

"We'll keep doing the study, right?" Mickey asked. Allison shook her head, "Come on. Why?"

"Because it's too dangerous. Also the tumor could give us abnormal results." Allison explained.

"What if you take the tumor out? I could keep doing the testing."

"You could, but—"

"Then take it out, man!" Mickey said, "We're so close, right?"

"Mm-hmm."

"This morning, I was miles beyond anything what I did last time—"

Derek interrupted him as he explained, "It's too dangerous. We're gonna take you up there, we're gonna remove your sensors, and then we're gonna close your craniotomy—-"

"What if I don't consent?" Mickey argued, surprising both surgeons.

"What?"

"What if I say you can't take your sensors back unless you take my tumor, too?" Mickey grinned, wanting to continue with the project.

"Mickey, we need to take them out." Allison informed him.

"Sorry bud." Mickey grinned, "Access denied. You're not going in my head unless you're leaving with that tumor."

***

Allison stepped inside the elevator as she pressed the button to go up to the O.R. floor, seeing as Mickey gave in. The elevator stopped, causing the door to open, Allison's eyes met with green-eyes, her breath hitched in her throat as Jackson stepped inside the elevator.

The two not really being on speaking terms but they are being professional to one another.

"Hey." Jackson greeted her, facing the doors, he was in front of her. "You got surgery?"

"Yeah." Allison nodded, "Derek couldn't so he let me do it. Uh—You have surgery, too?"

"No." Jackson responded. The elevator was filled with silence—awkward silence before Jackson gave in and turned around to face her, "I hate this. Can we at least be friends?"

The elevator doors open on Allison's floor as she passed by him, walking out the elevator, but spins around to face him before the doors could close.

"I would like that." Allison softly smiled, before turning back around to prepare for her surgery.

***

"Am I hearing changes in his rhythm?" Allison asked the anesthesiologist, as she worked on Mickey. Derek didn't have time to do the surgery because he had to take the kids home, she promised she could do it with his and Callie's permission. "Turn on the heart monitor, please."

"Done."

"Some suction." Allison asked as she worked, "More mannitol."

"Rhythm's getting very erratic, and—and B.P.'s rising."

"Quiet. Quiet." Allison shushed, as her eyes were kept on the monitor, "Damn it." She cursed under her breath, "All right. Reverse the paralytics. Let me check his gag reflexes."

Allison put down the surgical instruments as a nurse handed her a light, making her way to Mickey, Allison checked his pupils, "Oh, no. Mickey. Come on. No."

"Dr. Carter, there's no brain activity."

Allison sighed, as she looked up at the gallery at Callie, shaking her head, before making her way to close.

***

"This way, you can do the most good for the most people." Callie said, as she and Allison are taking off the sensors from Mickey.

"You think so?" Allison asked.

"Oh, yeah. He would be grateful. You did exactly what he wanted." Allison softly nodded as Callie inhaled deeply, "I'm not dropping the project." Allison looked at her, "You and Derek were right. I was doing it for her, and now I will do it for a million people, I'll never even meet and for Mickey. I could really use your help, yours and Derek's."

"We would like that." Allison smiled.

***

"Chinese is here." Micheal said, as he held up the bag up showing it to Allison, who only smiled in content. Allison got up from her seat in the couch and looked through the bag as she grabbed the beef and broccoli container.

She chewed and swallowed a broccoli before speaking, "We have a date for the wedding, now we just have to look at the guests lists, caterer, and a theme."

"Babe, breathe." Micheal reminded her, "The invitations would be here this week or next, who are you planning on giving it to."

"My friends." Allison shrugged.

"About that..." Micheal trailed off, "I don't think I want Jackson at our wedding."

Allison looked up from her food to her boyfriend, "W-What, Why?"

"You loved him, Allison." Micheal stated, "I don't feel comfortable with that."

"Are you serious right now?" Allison scoffed, "He's one of my best friends. And—And I chose you."

Micheal sighed, "I don't want to argue tonight, Allie."

"Okay." Allison nodded changing the subject, "Uh, is your family coming the weekend of the wedding or before."

"Weekend of." Micheal told her, when the Rivers family heard of their youngest son is engaged they were thrilled. They helped out with the wedding, meanwhile the Carter clan have not been informed because Allison isn't close to them.

Allison didn't say anything after that, she wasn't ready for the wedding, the weeks just kept passing by. All she could think of when she planned her wedding with Jackson, a couple years back.

***

"Delilah's." Allison happily stated as she looked back at her fiancee. "I love delilah's so that's going to be our main centerpiece at the reception."

Jackson smiled, "Whatever you want."

Jackson stared at Allison, amazed that she was his, Allison felt his stare causing her to turn around and face him, "What? Do I have something on my face?"

"No." Jackson said, "You're just beautiful and I can't believe you're mine."

Allison still felt those butterflies, after three years together with him, all she could do was close the space between them, his hands going to her waist and bringing her to his lap. "I love you."
