For a whole year, you feared this moment would come. And now that you stared blankly at the phone your mind was still figuring out what and how you would deal with this encounter. Surely not well.
"Max, Max honey?" You shook him lightly watching him stirring lazily "Honey you have to wake up, please"
"Just one more minute princess" he groaned into the pillow moving away from you causing the bed sheet to slide down his abdomen
You took a nervous breath "Max we don't have one more minute, my parents are on their way, literally "
His puffy eyes shot open, forehead wrinkled in confusion "I'm sure you told me something about them not being here for holidays? I wasn't that drunk, was I?"
"Yes Yes and now they texted me saying they were on their way from the airport, so apparently they changed their minds" you threw his shirt, which collided with his face and naked torso "Move! You know how my father is."
"So we'll keep hiding this from your parents for how much long?" He asks sitting up on the end of the bed
"My father must have a nice lecture about how I shouldn't have gotten back to you after 'he broke your heart'. So let me at least try and break this news as gently as possible."
Max glanced at you in amusement "Baby, Your father can't hate me that much?!"
"Technically, babe, he's not a fan of yours, since our sudden break. Let's just say he has some... issues? Yes that's the word."
Your body jumped when the loud sound of the doorbell rang through the apartment. Your and Max's eyes meet and he sent you a sympathetic smile
"Oh gosh they're here!"
Max took a deep breath and nodded "Then I think it's time to patch things up with your dad." He kissed you sweetly but as the seconds went by and the doorbell rang again he deepened the kiss leaving you so breathless that you had to hold onto him and the door for some balance
"That-" You cleared your hoarse throat "That doesn't seem like a good idea babe" you open your eyes but Max was already out of the room, and quickly reached the door just when you finally caught him "Hi mom, dad is so good to see you two" you smiled genuinely happy to see them, however your smile died the moment you saw your father murdering Max with only his eyes. He scowled and remained silent while you and your mother shared the same concern.
You never wanted to lose your father, but losing Max was not an option available either. This visit would not end well, you just knew that.
Your mother and you had made possible to have a decent atmosphere between the four of you, but Your father's tongue was hitching to ask Max some very important things
"Verstappen, tell me" he tilted his head to the side "how long will it be until you decide to leave my daughter again?"
Your and your mother eyes went wide "Dad"
Max squeezes your hand above the table and nods at you "Sir, Your daughter already knows why I had to leave. We already had this conversation "
You jumped slightly when your father placed the fork down with unnecessary force "YN might have a sweet spot for you, but I don't." He stated "If I was her, I would've punched you in the face and tell you to go to hell."
"Sir, YN and I spoke about this for weeks. She forgave me when I apologized, she understood me, for all that matters we are doing good it's all in the past." Max tensed a bit but he remained as calm as possible.
Waving his hand in dismay he replied "An apology might have been enough for her, but it doesn't work that way with me."
"Dad, please don't-"
"YN, my little girl, you deserve better and he's far from that. How many times he had disappointed you hell even ghosted you and our family? I don't want you to go through it again."
You and Max squeeze each other's hands above your thigh. You had feared that your father would go hard on Max, and he was not holding back. Max had already gone through enough with his own father. He deserved some peace.
"Dear, I'll have to interject" your mother spoke sending your dad a warning raise of the brow "YN is mature enough to decide what is better for herself. Being rude to Max won't fix this situation. This is their business, let them mind about it themselves."
"Their business? Right because my own daughter arriving to our doorstep crying tears of pain and staying that way for days because of him isn't my business? Having to watch my daughter lock herself in her room for weeks blaming herself for something she hadn't any fault whatsoever is not my business?"
Max eyes went wide and his gaze fell upon you, watching you move in your seat in discomfort fidgeting with the hem of your shorts.
You had decided that Max didn't need to know about the sleepless nights and all the crying sessions you had during all those months he left to 'fix' himself.
He beat himself for making the mistake of leaving you specially without saying much, but he wanted to protect you from himself, he would never forgive himself for hurting you, little did he knew that it was exactly what he did when he left.
You tried to be strong for the both of you, you made Victoria promise that she would never tell her brother how hurt and heartbroken you were when he left. But your father admission brought out that secret
"Max" you whispered and he shook his head
"I-" he cleared his throat and looked up at your mother who sent him a sympathetic smile "I- excuse me " he pulled his chair back and left the room.
It went all silence, your father decided to stay quite knowing that he might have crossed a line, but he knew the boy would never feel what his daughter went through
You pulled your chair back avoiding eye contact "let me show you to your room."

Half an hour later you exhale and turned the knob
"Max-"
"Why" he stared blankly at the white wall "Why didn't you told me?"
"For what exactly?" You took short strides until you were face to face with him
"I hurt you."
"You needed this time! You needed to heal. I never wanted you to feel guilty for leaving. You needed it!"
"But he didn't lie, he's just trying to protect you YN. Your father-"
"No, no don't do this!"
"He's isn't lying." He finally looked up into your eyes, the clouds that you had seen the day he was back, were the same you were seeing now and it terrified you. "You probably agree with him"
"I always thought that this loving someone more than anything was a thing to sell movies. But here I am, loving you. This won't change, I won't allow it to change."
"Our relationship is so...-complicated" he sighed shaking his head "I caused so many bumpy roads I just don't get it why you love me? Why?"
"Loving you is just so easy. I fall in love with you every second, every minute. Even when you were away I just knew that you would come back, if you loved me enough you would come back" you sighed "and you did, you're here."
Max got up from the bed,marching over you dropping every ounce of negative thoughts or even doubts about himself. You watched how your body automatically responded to his proximity and how your hand burned to touch his skin that had been covered by a long sleeved shirt while he selfishly kissed your lips more demanding and intense.
Running a finger over your swollen lips his eyes scanned your face and your eyes still closed "I don't know what I did, but I don't deserve you"
Your eyes open, and you bit your lip "I am yours" his eyes rapidly turned darker "You deserve my heart, you deserve my kisses, you deserve my body, you deserve every single part of me as a whole, never forget that."
He nodded, kissing the side of your " I won't" he whispered over your lips sending chills down your spine
Whatever happened
Your father would have to let this go, because you surely would not let this man go.
