"mama, come here, approach, appear.
daddy, i'm alone, cause this house don't feel like home"

march 26th, 2020

she'd read the message over a thousand times to make sure she wasn't misinterpreting it. it was pretty straight forward though, and she knew there was no way she could get it mixed up.

she'd spent the morning with daniel, lounging around his house and being lazy. they'd watched more movies than she could count and overall had just been enjoying each other's company.

they'd been finishing up a movie when her phone had went off, the text tone signaling it was a text from her brother.

she knew it was urgent. isaac never texted her when he knew she was with daniel, claiming he "didn't want to interrupt something he had no business interrupting"

isaac🤙🏼 : you gotta come home, len.

lennie❤️ : what's up? you okay?

isaac🤙🏼 : dads here.

her entire mood shifted. she hadn't seen her dad in a couple of years, and the last time she had... things didn't go all that well.

"babe, you okay?"

"huh?" she mumbled, too focused on the message to pay attention him

"i said are you okay?" he reached over, gently grabbing her by the chin and tilting her head towards him, "you look like you've just seen a ghost"

she rolled her eyes at the cliche line and nodded, "yeah, i uh, i gotta get home"

"why? what's going on?"

"my dads back."

she was stopped by isaac on the front porch of their shared home, preventing her from entering

"len, before you go in there-"

"isaac, don't start."

"he's still our dad, len. just please be civil" he pleaded with her.

isaacs relationship with their dad had always been much better than lennie's. he'd always been more forgiving than her, therefore resulting in a more stable relationship between him and their dad.

"what has he ever done for us to deserve to be referred to as dad?" she questioned, stepping away from him and crossing her arms over her chest

"well for one, we wouldn't be here if it wasn't for him" he weakly defended, mirroring her stance

"he wouldn't be here if it wasn't for us" she remarked, "he's here because he wants money, isaac. not because he missed us or because he suddenly wants to be a better dad"

"that's not true, lee" the two siblings snapped their attention to the front door, eleanors features immediately hardening at the sight of her father. she couldn't stand the sight of him.

"you need to leave" she hissed, "you're not welcome here"

"len-"

"isaac, i swear to god!" she snapped, she flung the front door open, causing her father to stumble back, "if you want to hang out with him so bad, then by all means.. but he's not welcome here. not in my home."

she stomped through the front door and to the kitchen, not even sparring her father a glance. isaac followed close behind her, pleading with her to understand — to just give their dad a chance.

"ive given him plenty of chances, isaac! now enough with this conversation. i want him out and i want him out now!"

"i'm the older brother, len! i make the decisions around here! if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't have a home!"

eleanor stared at her brother in shock. he'd never talked to her like that before, and had never raised his voice in such a malicious way.

isaac sighed, "len.."

she shook her head and turned away from him, "i never asked you to take me with you"

"you didn't have to ask me-"

"look at us , isaac" she forced out a laugh, leaning onto the counter and putting her head in her hands, "he's been here not even an hour and we're standing in the kitchen tearing each other apart. look at what he does to us!"

isaac walked over and wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close to his chest, "i'm sorry. i'll tell him to leave"

she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, nodding, "thank you"

"you're going to kick me out?"

both siblings turned to where their father stood in the doorway. eleanor crossed her arms across her chest and glared — she didn't feel guilty. not even a little bit.

"lennie doesn't want you here" isaac shrugged, "so you need to leave." he nodded his head towards the front door, looking at his father expectedly.

"are you kidding me?" their dad huffed, "i'm your father! what kinda kids kick out their dad?"

"what kind of dad neglects their kids and drowns himself in alcohol?" eleanor shot back. she took a step back when her father took a step in her direction, causing isaac to immediately become defensive

"don't" he warned, placing his arm in front of his little sister, "you need to leave and you need to do it now."

"i came here to spend time with my kids, and this is how they treat me?" their father looked at them in disbelief, "all the shit i've done for you?"

eleanor scoffed from her place behind isaac, "and what exactly have you done for us?"

"i gave you life! if it wasn't for me, you wouldn't be running around with your rockstar boyfriend!"

ellie rolled her eyes, ignoring the jab her father had taken at her relationship with daniel, "you're a sorry excuse for a father and a man. leave before we call the cops."

isaac stepped passed their dad and motioned for him to follow, "just don't come back, alright? ellie doesn't want you here. this is her home too.. she doesn't deserve to feel uncomfortable in her own home"

"i came here for a reason, boy"

"what? you out of money?" eleanor laughed from her spot against the wall

"it's your mom"

"what about her?"

the two siblings stared at their father, waiting for a response.

"she's dead"
