Third Person's POV
Naruto and Sasuke were waiting outside the Ninja Academy. Sakura jogged to where they are as Naruto noticed her and waved
"Sakura-chan! You're late" he said as Sakura reached them and panted lightly
"Sorry.. Good morning Sasuke-kun" she said as she glanced at Sasuke with a smile
"Yeah" Sasuke replied, Naruto frowned at the two and walked inside
"Come on! Let's get in" he called as Sasuke and Sakura nodded and followed.
A bunch of Genin from different villages gathered outside a room, two Genin guarded the doors of the room and one of them kicked a boy with shiny black hair, round eyes with prominent lower eyelashes, and very thick eyebrows and was supported by a girl with dark brown hair in two Chinese-style buns with short fringed bangs framing her face and dark brown eyes.
"You're taking the exams and you can't even get past us?" the Genin with bandaids said
"Why don't you just give up before you get hurt?" the other one mocked
"Please let us through, we're supposed to get in there" the girl with twin buns said as she walked up to them only to be punched by one of the two boys. Then the two boys started talking about how the Chunin exams will affect them and how a Chunin should be ready to lead their members in a matter of life and death. Team 7 couldn't care less though, 'Genjustu huh..' Naruto commented in his mind as Kurama rolled his eyes
"Nice speech, now step aside. And reverse the Genjustu, we can see through your illusion anyway" Sasuke said approaching the two boys with his hands in his pockets followed by Sakura and Naruto
"So you noticed the Genjutsu huh?" one of them said. Sasuke smiled as he glanced at Sakura
"Tell them Sakura" he said as Sakura nodded
"Of course! This is only the second floor" she said confidently as Naruto nodded. With that the Genjustu was broken changing the room number from 301 to 201.
"Well aren't you smart noticing the illusion. But can you see this?" the one with bandaids said as he was about to kick Sasuke with Sasuke doing a kick to counter the attack, only for the bowl cut boy to step in and stop their kicks with his hands.
Sakura widened her eyes, 'That was fast! I thought he was weak but he's as fast as Sasuke-kun' Sakura thought. The boy sighed as Sasuke and the other boy stepped back, 'He stopped my kick, that's some chakra he got in his arm' Sasuke thought, Naruto tilted his head, 'This guy is amazing!' he thought as the bowl cut haired boys teammates approached him
"Oi, what happened to the plan of keeping a low profile?" a boy with fair skin and long dark brown hair with pale lavender eyes said while crossing his arms. 'A Hyūga?' Naruto thought noticing the eyes of the boy
"I know but.." he said looking at Sakura with a determined look and cheeks blushing, he walked to Sakura and stood up straight
"My name is Rock Lee. You are Sakura-san right?" he introduced himself,
"Huh?"Sakura blinked a bit confused, Lee winked and held a thumbs up
"Please be my girlfriend. I promise to protect you with my life!" he said as his teeth shined. Sakura slumped
"Definitely.. no" this time Lee slumped
"You're a weirdo" Sakura said making Lee slump more.
"Hey you, what's your name?" the Hyūga asked referring to Sasuke, Naruto looked at them and sighed, 'It always has to be Sasuke!' he thought angrily
"It's common courtesy to give your own name before asking someone else's" Sasuke said as a-matter-of-fact
"You're a rookie aren't you?" the Hyūga continued to ask
"I'm not obliged to answer" Sasuke replied, the boy looked at him furrowing his brows as the girl with twin buns giggled and thought 'Cute!'. Sasuke turned back to his team and sees to his right Naruto and Lee on the wall slumping
"A weirdo..?" Lee said groaning
"Ugh.. no one wants to know my name.." Naruto said groaning, Sakura smiled
"Come on Sasuke-kun, Naruto. Let's go!" Sakura said dragging her teammates to the third floor.
"Don't pull me" Sasuke complained. The two boys looked behind the doors and transformed back to their originial selves
"Looks like the Chunin exams this year will be fun" the one with a bandage over his nose said
"For us, maybe not for them" the other one said. 'So this is the big bad Chunin exams huh? More like a freak show' Sasuke thought recalling the boys who caught his attention.
Team 7 were walking through the training hall until they were stopped
"Hey you with the big attitude!" Lee called as Team 7 turned to look at him. Naruto let out an 'Oh' while Sakura gasped
"What do you want?" Sasuke asked
"I want to fight you right here and now!" Lee declared
"Now?" Lee nodded as he jumped down
"I'm Rock Lee. You said it was common courtsey for a challenger to give his own name first, right? Uchiha Sasuke-kun" he confirmed pointing at Sasuke
"Hn. So you know me" Lee made a stance
"Everyone talks about how great the Uchiha clan is and I want to confirm it myself. And also.." he said looking at Sakura with a blushing face which Sakura groaned
"I love you Sakura-san" he said
"Noo! Those eyebrows can't be real!" Sakura screamed as she held herself shivering talking about Lee's hairstyle and eyebrows saying he's a weirdo. But despite that Lee says she's an angel from heaven which Kurama scoffed at, Lee sent heart winks to Sakura which she dodged. Then Sasuke agreed to Lee's challenge.
(Gonna skip the fight, I'm here for the Chunin exams. Basically same thing happened in canon)
The fight ended with Sasuke on the ground and Lee getting lectured by a turtle. Naruto looked at the turtle who was talking and had a forehead protector tied to its neck, 'Is that a summon?' Naruto asked as Kurama nodded
"Yep"
Naruto looked at the turtle and decided to ask because it was funny
"So turtles can become senseis too?" he asked dumbly
"How would I know?" Sakura shot back. Sasuke was still furious at how he lost to Lee.
Then someone appeared on the turtles back, Team 7 were dumbfounded at how he looked very similar to Lee
"Yo, Lee" he greeted with a thumbs up and his teeth shining
"So Bushy brows got it from him, the bowl cut and the eyebrows" Naruto commented, a tick mark appeared on Lee's head as he looked at Team 7 while clenching his fists
"Hey! Don't you dare insult Gai-sensei!" Naruto and Lee argued a little until Gai stopped them
"Give it a rest Lee" he said as Lee turned to him
"Yes, sir"
"Now for your punishment. You idiot!" he yelled as he punched Lee making Team 7 look at them weirdly with an unbelievable expression.
Then all of a sudden Gai and Lee were on the sunset sobbing while calling each other. Team 7 still looked at them weirdly, 'How could I lose to someone that lame?' he thought. Naruto immediately grinned
"It's kinda sweet how they're all huggy and stuff" Naruto commented
"You've gotta be kidding me!" Sakura said. Lee and Gai were about to leave for 100 laps around the field until Naruto and Sakura reminded them about the Chunin exams only for Gai to up the 100 laps to 500 laps.
Naruto asked Sakura about the turtle, Gai looked at the three Genin and thought 'This must be Kakashi's squad'
"Tell me, how is Kakashi-sensei?" he asked
"You know him?" Sasuke asked back, Gai chuckled as he rubbed his chin
"People say that... he and I are eternal rivals" he said smirking, Sakura and Naruto didn't believe him, same with Sasuke. In just a single blink Gai disappeared and reappeared behind Team 7 and told them that he had 50 wins over 49 losses, the former is his record. Sasuke thought about how Gai is faster than Kakashi and even questioned his humanity. Gai suggested Lee to accompany them to the classroom and as Lee was wrapping his bandages, Naruto noticed the bruises on his hands 'He must've trained a lot' Naruto thought as Gai and the turtle disappeared.
"Sasuke-kun, I actually lied. I wanted to test my skills but you're not the one I wanted to test them against" Lee said as Sasuke glared at him
"I told you I am the best Genin but there is another top ninja, someone on my own team. I came here to defeat him and you were just practice. But now you're a target, I will crush you. Consider yourself warned!" Lee stated as he front flipped upstairs and ran.
Sasuke was shaking in anger, Sakura tried to comfort him but Naruto put his hands behind his head and turned to Sasuke
"Oh.. Looks like the Uchihas aren't that great after all" Naruto said mocking him, Sakura was gonna scold him but Sasuke said
"Shut up! Next time I'll drive him to his knees!" Sasuke declared, Naruto looked away
"Uhhuh. And who got his ass kicked?" he mocked again
"Stop it Naruto! What are you saying?" Sakura said, Sasuke grunted as Naruto looked at him seriously then to his feet
"You saw his hands right? When he took off the bandage?" Naruto asked as Sasuke recalled and widened his eyes
"I bet Bushy brows has been training until he drops, everyday. He trains harder than you. That's all I'm saying" Naruto stated matter-of-factly. Sasuke kept shaking as he started to sweat, he clenched his fists and smirked
"Hn. This is starting to get interesting. The Chunin exams can't wait to see what's next" Sasuke stated, Naruto looke at Sasuke for a moment before speaking
"Right!" Naruto grinned and Sakura nodded in agreement. They faced to the direction they're going looking ahead in determination
"Let's get started. Naruto! Sakura!" he said
"Yeah!" Naruto agreed as Sakura looked at Sasuke smiling.
As they arrived to room 301 Kakashi was standing there waiting for them
"Kakashi-sensei!"
"Hey! I just came here to see you for a while!" Kakashi greeted with an eye smile
"Sakura... Naruto... and Sasuke. I'm proud of you! I couldn't ask for a better team. Good luck" he said as he stepped to the side, Sasuke and Sakura held the doors as Naruto went to the middle
"We won't let you down sensei! Believe it!" Naruto said as Team 7 entered the room.
They entered the room and were quite surprised with what they saw
"W-wow.." Naruto said as Sasuke narrowed his eyes
"Guess we're not alone" Sakura said as the different teams looked at their direction with glares and sinister looks. Naruto used his sensory jutsu for a while to find any chakra he recognizes as Sakura gulped at the stares until a voice said making Naruto sweat drop and Kurama cover his ears
"Sasuke-kun what took you so long?" a voice which belongs to Ino said as she hugged Sasuke from behind, she giggled as she complimented Sasuke's brooding look. Sakura growled as she grew a tick mark
"Back off pig, he's mine!" Sakura shouted pointing at Ino angrily, Ino let go of Sasuke, well still holding him and said
"What? They let you in? Still a Billboard brow I see" she mocked as she stick out her tongue while Sakura growled
"Oh, it's just you guys" a new voice said revealing Shikamaru with his usual bored look and Choji happily eating chips
"I knew this was gonna be a drag but I didn't know it was gonna be this lame" Shikamaru said
"Oh, the three stooges are here" Naruto said not surprised
"You know what? Ah, forget it. You're a waste of time" Shikamaru said as Choji kept on eating his chips
"Well, what do you know? The whole gang's here!" a new voice which belonged to Kiba said as Akamaru barked in agreement
"Hi Naruto-kun.." Hinata shyly greeted, Naruto glanced at her as Hinata looked away blushing
"You're here too? Man, everyone's here for this stupid thing" Shikamaru said narrowing his eyes
"Yep. We're all here, the nine rookies. This is gonna be fun. Of course, for those of us who can make it, right Sasuke?" Kiba said confidently
"Hn, don't get overconfident Kiba" Sasuke replied smirking at the Inuzuka
"Heh, we're gonna blow you away. We've been training like crazy" Kiba said smirking, Naruto furrowed his brows slightly, clearly annoyed by the Inuzuka
"What do you think we've been doing? Sitting around picking daisies?" Naruto said in sarcasm which made Sasuke and Sakura raise a brow. Hinata played with her fingers shyly
"Uh.. don't mind Kiba-kun.. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it.." Naruto looked at her raising a brow
"What?" he asked, Hinata gasped as she blushed looking away. Choji looked at Akamaru thinking that he got plumper, as he took a step towards Kiba, Shino stepped in front of him blocking his way. Choji looked at him with a questioned look and saw a bug on the floor.
"Hey, you guys" a new voice called as Rookie 9 turned to see a man few years older than them who has onyx eyes and ash-grey hair kept in a ponytail with black rimmed circular glasses.
"You might want to keep it down a little. I mean no offense but you're the nine rookies right? Fresh out of the academy?" he said as he put his hands on his hips
"I wouldn't go making a spectacle of yourselves. Just cool it" he added, he intoduced himself as Yakushi Kabuto. He told them that this was the seventh time he took the exams and is an 'expert', he offered to give them information with the cards he have. Naruto narrowed his eyes as he find it suspicious about his sudden approach and offer. He closed his eyes to go to his mindscape. He opened them again to see Kurama sleeping
"Do you have any tips for the exams Kurama?" he asked, Kurama opened one eye to look at him and closed it again
"Try not to die" he nonchalantly said as Naruto slumped
"Uh.. thanks I guess?" Naruto said as he sweat dropped. He crossed his arms as he tilted his head
"How many teams are there again?" he asked, Kurama's ears went up to listen to Kabuto
"Suna 30, Ame 21, Kusa 15, Taki 12, Konoha 72, and Oto 3" Kurama said, Naruto thanked him as he went back to sleep. He returned to reality as Kabuto gave them Hyūga Neji's information and Gaara's information saying that he completed every mission without a scratch which surprised them as he completed a B-rank mission without a scratch, Naruto just nodded and thought 'Gaara's a Jinchūriki so that should be expected'. Kabuto sighed
"The participants this year are quite a handful"he said as Rookie 9 glanced to the other teams feeling their stares again.
Naruto smirked for a while as he started shaking from containing his laughter which Sakura noticed and misunderstood it, 'Okay, so we're rookies and most of them are older and more experienced. No big deal, I can handle it. But it'd be a whole lot easier if I didn't have to watch Naruto fall apart in front of me. He's not usually like this, I'll try to cheer him up!' she thought smiling to be positive.
"Don't worry Naruto, we'll be fine-" she assured but noticed that Naruto clenched his fists. He screamed as he turned to the other teams and pointed at them grinning
"My name is Uzumaki Naruto! I'm gonna beat every one of you, believe it!" he yelled as Rookie 9 sweat dropped. Ino told Sakura to shut him up and they ended up argueing. Naruto inhaled as he smiled widely putting his hands behind his head
"That's much better" he said, Kurama chuckled expecting this from his host
"You had to do that" he said, 'It was funny at first and I felt like this could break the tension between them'
"And make enemies"
'Yep!'
Kankuro huffed as he narrowed his eyes
"It's that brat we met" he said
"He yips like a little dog" Temari said, Gaara sighed at the blonde Jinchūriki and sent a glare to Kankuro and Temari making them sweat drop. Tenten facepalmed
"He's done it" Lee held both fists
"He has passion!" he exclaimed
"It looks like you didn't intimidate them enough Lee" Neji said crossing his arms.
Then all of a sudden, smoke erupted in front catching the attention of all Genins
"Alright you degenerates! Pipe down and listen up!"a voice yelled, the smoke cleared out revealing a man with a large imposing figure with a rugged head and face covered with old wounds or scars along with his forehead protector covering his head. Along with about 10 or 12 Chunin Shinobi with him.
"I'm Morino Ibiki, your proctor. And from this moment on your worst enemy. It's time to begin" he said smirking as everyone gasped quite afraud of the proctor. He then informed that there were no combat between candidates without the proctors permission.
"We'll proceed to the first part of the exams" he said as everyone submitted their papers and were given a number. After that, everyone sat at their assigned number with a paper and pencil provided while the Chunin Shinobis sat at the side holding clipboards and pens. Naruto groaned as he closed his eyes and smiled a little, 'A written exam.. the others are probably laughing their butts off thinking I'm gonna fail this' Naruto thought as Kurama smirked
"Um.. Naruto-kun.." a shy voice said, Naruto turned his head to the right to see Hinata
"Oh Hinata, didn't see you there" he said, Hinata played with her fingers with a blushing face hesitating
"I.. I wanted to say good luck" she shyly said, Naruto smiled
"Thanks"
Ibiki proceeded to explaining the rules for the exam. Upon the second rule, Sakura became worried since she believes Naruto may not be able to answer all items which is not true at all.
"You have one hour" and as the clock ticked a few seconds Ibiki shouted
"Begin!" with that they started answering the test.
Sasuke and Sakura glanced at Naruto with narrowed eyes,'Naruto! You better answer at least one question right!' Sakura thought. Naruto shuddered feeling the glares of his teammates, he brushed the feeling away as he looked at his test paper. 'Hm.. let's see..' he thought reading the first question then answering it swiftly. After about 15 minutes Naruto put the pencil down and read his answers again, he sighed, 'These questions are advanced.. not many Genin would be able to answer this, except for Sakura-chan though..' Naruto thought staring at his paper. Sasuke read through the questions and chuckled quietly, 'I don't understand. Not even one question' he thought. Sakura held her head reading the questions 'It's like they're tempting us to.. no! I can't do that!' she thought.
Sasuke furrowed his brows trying to understand the first part of the exam until it hit him, realizing that the true purpose of the written exam is to test their information gathering ability. Most of the Genin in the room figured it out and proceeded to cheating in their own way and some were caught failing directly.
Naruto who was bored decided to communicate with Gaara, 'Oi, Gaara!' he called as Gaara just finished his test, 'Naruto..?' he responded,
'Are you finished?' he asked
'Yeah'
'That's great! I was worried for a second and thought about helping you!'
'Right..' Gaara paused for a while deciding whether to ask or not
'You do know the true purpose right?' Gaara asked, Naruto blinked a few times
'True purpose?' Gaara sighed at the Jinchūriki's response
'Information gathering' then Naruto widened his eyes
'Oh.. I didn't know! Hehe!' Kurama facepalmed
"Are you serious kit..?"
'What? I mean I know the answers so I don't really need to cheat. And even if I don't know the answers I wouldn't know how to cheat'
"Right right" Kurama said rolling his eyes as Naruto grinned sheepishly, Gaara can only sigh as he listened to the conversation. Now that only 15 minutes were left, it was time for Ibiki to present the last question
"Alright, listen up! Here's the 10th or final question" he said as a few Genin tensed up nervous about the last question.
"But before that, there's a rule you need to know. These rules are unique to the 10th question, pay attention and try not to let them frighten you" he said as he walked a few steps and glanced at the Genin, he told them about the rule as Genin started protesting (It's about them making the choice of taking the 10th question or nah).
Both choices are risky making the Genin shake and grit their teeth as they sweat drop, well except for a few of them. After a few seconds some Genin started raising their hands and failed while others were under pressure of the decision. Naruto looked down for a while and slowly raised his hand making Sasuke, Sakura, and Hinata widen their eyes, Gaara included.
"Oi kit! What do you think you're doing?!" Kurama asked furiously. Then Naruto slammed the desk
"Don't underestimate me! I won't run! Act tough all you want and try to scare me off, no way! Even if I were to be a Genin my whole life I'll eventually become Hokage!" he shouted, he sat back down and crossed his arms as Hinata looked at him smiling. 'He's clueless but he's got guts, I'll give him that' Sasuke thought closing his eyes, 'Way to go you idiot' Sakura thought smiling
"This desicion could change your life, now's your last chance" Ibiki said
"I never go back on my word. That is my Ninja way" Naruto replied smirking, Gaara seemed to calm down as Kurama hummed
"You're smart but you're sometimes an idiot"
'A smart idiot'
Ibiki smirked as he noticed that the Genin gained their composure thanks to Naruto's little stunt.
"For all of you who stayed there's one last thing you need to do. And that's for me to tell you.." Ibiki started, a few Genin gulped and ckenched their fists
"That all of you have passed the first exam!" then Sakura asked about the 10th question only to be answered that there wasn't such a question, well staying or not was the question. A few questions came up making Ibiki explain the true purpose of the exam.
After all the explaining, the first part was officially over and he wished all of them good luck. Naruto cheered shouting 'Yay!' or 'Woohoo!' making Ibiki chuckle. Suddenly something broke to the window, ends of a dark cloth were tied to a kunai sticking them to the ceiling of the room, a new face stood there, a young woman with a slender frame, light brown pupilless eyes, purple hair styled in a short, spiky, fanned-out ponytail.
"Alright boys and girls, no time for celebrating. I'm your next proctor Mitarashi Anko!"
