Nicki POV
I bought food and a few cars for Andrew I know my baby boy is obsessed with monster trucks so why not spoil him?
I parked my car in Cindy's driveway and I saw my son playing with mud I got out of the car and took out the plastic bags out
"Andrew ain't you going to help mommy?"
"I'm busy" he said
"Why are you playing with mud baby?" I asked
"Because I like it Mama" he said smiling
"You are still naughty" I said
"I'm not naughty I'm learning Mama" he said
I shook my head and went inside
"Hey girl" I said putting the plastic bags of the counter
"Hey Nicki, how you doing girl?" She asked
"I'm good, I hope my son ain't driving you crazy"
"No, not at all" she said
"I bought some food, I hope that's okay with you"
"Yeah I'm cool with that"
"So why did you let him play with mud?"
"He said he likes it"
"Where did he get the water?"
"I gave it to him" she said
"Why you spoiling him?"
"That's what aunties do" she said
"I don't like it when people spoil him"
"People who love him are gonna spoil him Nicki you just have to accept that" she said
I shook my head
We unpacked and put away the groceries
"Why does Andrew have a good vocabulary?"
"Because I don't talk to him like a baby I talk to him like he's grown"
"Is that why he keeps telling me that he's busy?"
"Yes" I said laughing
"He's very smart for his age"
"It's all cute and fun when you talk to your baby in a baby-ish way but it's kinda delaying his growing process"
"I won't be surprised if he is a science teacher in 2 year's time" she said
I laughed
She put out some snacks for us
"I haven't seen Keisha in a while" I said
"Yeah me too, she's been scarce lately ever since she started that white dude"
"A white dude? Damn she secured the bag" I said
"I don't think so, I don't like that guy"
"Why?"
"I feel like he's tryna change her"
"What do you mean?"
"Like she's wearing longer dresses and skirts and looking like a housewife" she said
I laughed
"I don't think anybody can change Keisha" I said
"I don't think so too, unless he's dicking her real good"
I laughed and ate some of the snacks
"Those snacks ain't for you, they for Andrew" she said
"Oh okay, lemme go call him"
I went outside and he was sitting on top of the soil
"Andrew come get some snacks"
"Okay" he said
I watched him as he put stones around his mud "cars" then he ran to me
"Go wash your hands baby" I said
"With soap and water or water only?"
"With soap and water" I said
"Okay"
I watched him as he ran to the bathroom
He came back and I sat him on my lap
"Are you gonna share with aunty Cindy?"
"Maybe" he said eating
I kissed his cheek
"Where's Daddy?" He asked
"He's at work"
He ate the pecan nuts and smiled
"Do they taste good?" I asked
"Yes"
"Where are your kids?" I asked Cindy
"They are with my mom" she said
I slightly rolled my eyes
"You two still haven't fixed things?"
"No"
"She'll come around I know she's hot headed and all but she'll come around" she said
I nodded and watched Andrew as he stuffed himself with snacks
After he was done eating he went back outside
"How is Chris?" She asked
"I don't know what to say, some days he seems like he's getting used to things then the next it's like he just woke up from a coma"
"Can't one of your doctor friends operate him or something?"
"They can't because he didn't hit anything or have some kind of force applied to his head I just pray that one day he wakes up and remembers everything"
"I'll keep praying for y'all just have Faith"

Faith invited me to have tea with her cause she had some good news to tell me I really don't get why we can't meet at her house and have tea there
"Why couldn't we meet at your house?"
"My friend's cousin is the owner of this place so I want to support her" she said
"Oh I see, that's a good thing cause black people don't support each other that much these days"
"Hell yeah"
"So what's the good news? Are you officially a billionaire?" I asked
She laughed
"No"
"Then what?"
She took out a pregnancy test and put it on the table
"Oh hell no you lying"
"I'm not"
"I'm so happy for you, I better be the godmother" I said
"You definitely will"
"Are you excited?" I asked
"Hell yeah I can't wait to be a mom"
"I'm so happy for you, being a mom is the best thing to ever happen to a woman even though it can be exhausting" I said
"I've always wanted to be a mom, I would get so jealous watching you and the girls interacting with your kids "
"So how far are you?"
"I'm 9 weeks pregnant"
"Damn girl I gotta wait 5 - 6 to meet my niece or nephew" I said
"Yes"
"Well I guess I'll have to wait patiently" I huffed
My phone started ringing I looked at the caller ID and it was Cindy
"This is Cindy I hope Andrew didn't break her TV" I said
Phone conversation:
Nicki: Hello?
Cindy: Hey Nicki, are you busy?
Nicki: Kinda, I'm having coffee with my best friend. Wassup?
Cindy: There has been a situation
Nicki: What kinda situation? Did Andrew break something?
Cindy: No but please don't be mad
Nicki: Cindy just tell me what happened
Cindy: Andrew is in hospital
Nicki: What? What happened?
I stood up from my chair
Cindy: He almost drowned
Nicki: What? Which hospital is he in I'm on my fuckin' way
Cindy: Where you work
Nicki: Okay I'm on my way right I'll be there in 5
"I gotta go my baby needs me" I said looking for my car keys in my purse
"What happened?"
"He almost drowned" I said
"Okay I'm gonna follow you lemme pay the bill first"
I took my purse and ran to my car

I went straight to the children's ward and found her sitting
"Hey hello, excuse me Miss are you trying to kill my son?" I asked
"No Nicki, I'd never do that"
"How could you be so irresponsible Cindy?"
"It was a mistake Nicki, he was just running around the backyard playing with his monster trucks and there was a delivery man I just took my eyes off him for just 2 minutes"
"2 minutes is more than enough to lose a soul"
"If he dies I'll never forgive you"
"It was an honest mistake Nicki I'm really sorry" she kneeled down and begged
"If my son doesn't make it I am going to strangle you"
"Nicki calm down" Faith said
"CALM DOWN? YOU WANT ME TO CALM DOWN? My son is in there fighting for his life and you're telling me to calm down"
"Onika it was a mistake" Faith said
I paced up and down
My baby needs to live, I can't lose my Andrew
Cindy kept praying I didn't even want to look at her she disgusts me
A new face approched us and introduced himself
"Hello ladies, I am Dr Evans and I'm Andrew's daughter"
"Is he okay?" I asked
"Yes, he said he wants his monster truck"
I laughed
Typical Andrew
"You're new here right?"
"Yes"
"Well I'm Dr Anderson and I'm also a pediatrician" I said
"Oh you're the doctor who has a family crisis?" He asked
"Yes"
"I hope all goes well and maybe when you come back I'll be able to get a few tips"
"Sure thing" I said
"Well you can go see your son now I don't want him to cry" he said
He directed us to Andrew's hospital room
He seems like a very good doctor
We walked into his room and he smiled when he saw us
"Helloooo Andrew"
"Hi Mommy" he said
"Are you happy to see us?"
"Just a little bit" he said
I mentally rolled my eyes
"Mommy where's my monster truck?"
"You left it at home"
"Can you get it for me?"
"I will baby, do you feel any pain?" I asked kissing his forehead
"I'm hungry" he said
"When are you not hungry?" I asked
"When I'm sleeping" he said
"I'll go get him something" Faith said
"Thank you so much Faith"
She got up and left then
"She's gonna get food?" He asked
"Yeah"
"Okay" he looked around the room
"What were you doing in the pool Andrew?" I asked
"I wanted to wash my truck" he said
"Why didn't you ask auntie Cindy to help you?"
"She was busy"
I sighed
"Is mommy mad?" He asked
He had the most sweetest innocent look
I can't be mad at my baby
"No I'm not but you need to be careful, I told you not to play around the pool when you're alone"
"Okay mommy"
"Now apologize to Aunt Cindy for putting her in trouble" I said
"I'm sorry auntie Cindy" he said
"It's okay my baby" she hugged him tightly
"No let go of me" he said giggling
She let go then kissed his cheek
"Don't kiss me I'm not your boyfriend" he said laughing
"You are my little boyfriend" she said
"No I'm not"
I cleared my throat
I gave Andrew my phone so that I can keep him distracted while I talk to Andrew
"Nicki I'm really sorry"
"I'm also sorry for shouting and blaming you"
"It's okay, I understand where you were coming from I'd react the same if I were you"
"I hope you forgive me"
"Yes I do, you're my only sister-in-law and I can't stay mad at you" she said
"God bless you Cindy, you're one of a kind"
"Well I can't disagree with that" she said playing with her hair and rolling her eyes
I laughed and hugged her tightly

I had to go and make sure that my dad is settled into his new retirement apartment at least he is closed to me and I can come visit him anytime I want
"This place is very nice" he said
"Yep I made sure I choose only the best for my Dad" I said
He smiled
"Thank you Nika but it looks expensive" he said
"It ain't that expensive just a couple of pennies per month"
"How much is it?"
"I ain't gonna tell you"
"Fine, how's my son in law?"
"Still the same"
"How are my grandkids doing? I haven't seen them in a while"
I wanted to tell him about Andrew but I don't want him to panic
"They are doing good, they just eat a lot"
"You also used to eat a lot"
"No I didn't"
"You did, you didn't notice because you weren't the one buying the groceries"
"That's true, come to think about it I used to eat a lot"
We both laughed it was quiet for a split second
"It's getting late Onika you should go home"
"I know Dad I just wanted to make sure that you're settled in and you're comfortable"
"I'm grown I can take care of myself"
"At least now you're closer to us and I can come anytime and dump my kids here whenever they annoy me"
"You can bring then anytime you want, they are all welcome" he said
I smiled
"I love you Dad" I said hugging his torso
"I love you too my little baby" he said hugging me and kissing my forehead
"What??? I'm not a baby anymore" I said
"You'll always be my little baby no matter how old you are" he said
"I'm old enough to be your little sister Dad" I said
He laughed and kissed my forehead
"I love you my Nika"
"I love you too Dad" I hugged him
"I hope mom is proud of me wherever she is"
He looked at me and sighed
"She definitely is"
I can tell that my dad hasn't accepted my mom's death and I know he misses her and I also miss her too but it was her time to go so I have to accept it
