february 24th, 2020

eleanor was feeling a lot of things at the moment ; anger, confusion, sadness— but above all, stupid. she was feeling stupid.

she should've known better. she should've known it was too good to be true. she wasn't enough for daniel before, so why would she be enough now?

she couldn't bring herself to leave her bed or to answer her phone (which, by the way, was currently being blown up by daniel and the rest of the boys). isaac and natalia had both tried to coax her out of her bed, but had both failed.

she was exactly where she was a year ago : confused and heartbroken.

"lennie if you don't open this damn door i swear i'm going to break it down" isaac threatened, twisting and turning the knob as if it would magically unlock.

"go away" she whined, burying herself further under her blankets, "i just want to be alone"

"len, babe, it's christina" a much softer voice came through the door, "you don't have to come out... but can you at least please let me in?"

eleanor threw her head back and groaned, forcing herself out of bed and making her way to her bedroom door. she unlocked it and pulled it open, coming face to face with isaac and christina. the two stood there with sympathetic looks on their face and it slightly angered her — she didn't want their pity.

"happy now?" she sarcastically muttered, turning on her heel and making her way back to her bed. she flopped back down and returned to the position she was in before. christina followed suit, laying next to her and placing her head on eleanors shoulder.

"natalia told me what happened"

"yeah, i figured" eleanor rolled her eyes, "it's whatever. i'm fine"

"you're not fine" christina frowned, cuddling closer to the girl and throwing her arm across her waist, "it's okay to not be okay, lennie"

eleanor shook her head in disagreement, "not when i should've known better"

"you love him, len" christina smiled understandingly, "we don't blame you for giving him another chance"

she buried her face in her hands and took a deep breath, willing herself to not cry. another frown made its way on to christina's face — she didn't like seeing eleanor so torn up. it reminded her of last year, and she hated it.

"have you talked to him?"

"him and the boys have been blowing my phone up but i haven't answered" she replied, letting her hands fall back down to her sides

"the boys?" christina scrunched up her face in confusion, "do you think the boys know?"

"probably" eleanor shrugged, "why else would they be blowing up my phone?"

"maybe to check on you?" christina suggested, "they probably don't want to make the same mistake they did last time"

"i wish daniel thought that way"

"she respond yet?"

daniel looked up at zach from his spot in the studio, what seemed to be a permanent frown etched on to his face. he shook his head in reply before looking down at his phone for what seemed like the 100th time that minute

"maybe she's busy today. she hasn't answered any of us either" he shrugged, trying to make his friend feel better.

"ellie always answers her phone" daniel gave him a look, "especially when it's you and jack"

zach didn't respond. instead he went back to what he'd been doing, not knowing what to say due to the fact that daniel was right. eleanor always answered her phone when it came to him and jack, it was one of the 'rules' they'd come up with as best friends.

"i just don't know what i could've done to upset her"

"i don't know, man" zach scratched the back of his head awkwardly. he didn't like getting involved in his two best friends arguments, "maybe you should ask nattie or christina" he suggested

"i think i'll just go over there after we're done here"

zach looked up at him in shock, "dude, if she's ignoring your texts.." he trailed off, hoping daniel would get the hint.

"it doesn't hurt to try" clearly he hadn't gotten the hint.

"i guess" zach sighed, "let me know how it goes"

"what the hell are you doing here?"

daniel almost cowered under isaacs intense glare. he shifted awkwardly, "uh, is.. is ellie here?"

"yeah"

"well can.. can i see her?"

"nope" isaac shrugged carelessly, attempting to shut the door. daniel quickly reached out, preventing him from doing so

"come on, isaac. i don't understand what i did" he pleaded with him

"that's really not my problem"

"i know you hate me-"

"-you're right, i do"

"-but i love your sister" daniel continued, ignoring isaac's little jab, "i know ive fucked up in the past, but i'm trying to be better"

"you don't deserve my sister" isaac hissed. if looks could kill, daniel would be 6 ft under.

"i don't." he agreed, "but i love her with everything in me, and i'm trying to make things better. please, let me making things better" he begged.

the two of them held eye contact for a moment, both incredibly stubborn.

"she's upstairs" isaac reluctantly revealed, "i'll be downstairs, so watch yourself" he warned the boy in front of him

daniel smiled gratefully, stepping in to the house and making his way to the room that contained the girl he was so in love with.

"ellie? it's daniel.." he knocked on her door softly, standing awkwardly on the outside when he didn't get a response from her. he opened the door slowly, peeking his head in.

"you can come in" she grumbled, not even turning to face him

he obliged, fully entering the room and making his way over to the bed, "i've been trying to reach you all day" he told her, taking a seat beside her feet

"i know"

he frowned, "then why haven't you picked up? i even had the boys call you"

"do you enjoy breaking my heart or something?" she asked, finally turning over to face him. she sat up, crossing her arms over her chest

"what are you talking about?" he looked at her confused, his frown deepening

"now you're going to play stupid?"

"i'm not playing anything. i don't know what you're talking about, babe"

she rolled her eyes at the nickname, "we're exactly where we were a year ago. i should've known better"

"lennie, what the hell are you talking about?" he stared at her wide eyed, "i can't fix what's wrong if i don't know what the problem is" he reached out to her, a hurt expression crossing his face when she pulled away

"you promised me things would be different, daniel"

"things are different, baby" he said softly, "what's going on, len?"

" tell me why you were at renees house."
