"You're so cute" Kate giggled
"Cute isn't what I'm going for" Autumn rolled her eyes
"Right, you're going for daddy. I know. But you can be adorable when you want to" Kate smiled
"ew"
"Oh hush you, come on let's get back in there" Kate laughed as she intertwined her fingers with the girl's
"I don't wannaaa" Autumn pouted when her body was tugged towards the kitchen door
"Come on, let's just get it over with for your sister's sake. I'm sure she just wants to go home" Kate said
Usually Autumn wouldn't care at all about the satisfaction of her parents but she knew the smaller girl didn't deserve to be dragged into any of this. So it was the most she could do, hurry this discussion up for the young girl to leave sooner
"Ugh I hate it here" Autumn groaned
"I know, but it's okay" Kate said
"How?"
"Because at the end of the day, they're not apart of your life and you don't have to listen to anything they say. Sure they're your parents but they damn well don't act like it. Plus, you have me to annoy tomorrow morning with music" Kate giggled
"Bu- wha- did you just give me permission to annoy you!?"
"Yes?"
"THAT SUCKS ALL THE FUN OUT OF IT" Autumn hissed
"Oh.. Oops" Kate giggled
The two girls walked back into the kitchen, their eyes immediately glanced at the young Hester to make sure she was okay. The girl gave a small smile before returning to her meal, their parents still chatting their throats away on the other end
"I wonder what's for desert" Kate mumbled as she adjusted herself in her chair
"Me"
"Autumn!"
"What?"
"I'm trying to eat"
"And I'm trying to eat yo-"
"Oh for fuck sakes" Kate glared as she playfully swatted the girl on her arm, causing her to giggle
Their eyes locked as they glanced at each other, Kate's wide smile never failing to make the girl's heart race in her chest
"Right, where were we?" a deep voice interrupted them, causing the girl's to swing their heads away and clear their throats
"Your series premiere is next week" the mother said
"You have to walk the red carpet with someone. Maybe we'll get her Millie, she's recently had some hype from that movie she just finished and there's rumors of a second. It won't peel the attention off Autumn but it'll still bring out more photographers at the premiere" the mother said, causing Autumn to furrow her brows
"What?" she asked
"Good idea, I have her publicit's number and I can call her first thing in the morning"
"Huh?"
"We must have her wearing a dress, it would be barbaric for her to show up wearing rags. She literally looks like she's wearing it now" The mother scoffed
"Excuse me!?"
"Don't insult the child Vanessa, she thinks she's independent so she wears what she wants to" the man said
"what does that even mean-"
"Hmm, we've led her to believe she's independent. It's your fault Haun"
"How is this my fault? You're her mother, you should have raised her better than that"
"Me? Raise her? Like your second project girl over there for your public eye? Hester family never fail to produce stars. Just ridiculous" the mother scoffed
It was only at that point did Autumn truly felt the pain crush her soul. Her eyes glanced at her young sister who was just called a 'project'. Her blue eyes glossy and filled with a pain that stabbed her heart with a knife of ice and reality
Autumn lost it. Not because she was annoyed, but because she saw the same thing in the young girl that she went through. That abuse. That mental strain, the words that cut at your soul from the two people who are supposed to love you. Autumn lost it because she would be damned to sit there and watch someone else go through that same thing she dealt with
"Okay that's it! STOP IT" Autumn slammed her fist against the wooden table, her howls bounced off the walls. snapping the attention of everyone in the room.
"Excuse me?" her mother scoffed
"Shut up. Just shut up. Did you just hear anything you just said!?" She spat
"Autumn Hester, you will sit down and don't dare speak to your mother like that again!" the man hissed
"Shut up Haun, you're one to talk" Autumn yelled
"Autumn!" the man yelled
"No. What the actual fuck is wrong with both of you!? You're literally two of the most fucked up people I've ever met yet you think so highly of yourself. You break people. You break them into tiny pieces of dust until they can't move anymore because you've destroyed any ounce of happiness, purity, any fucking thing good in their life and you go about your life as if it didn't happen. You abuse everyone, you make them feel like they're literally dirt under your shoes. You only about your goddamned selves, you just said you're using that girl to bring your business rep higher, do you have any fucking idea how fucked up that is!? And don't get me started on everything you've done to me. Because we could be here for hours just talking about one month of your fucking abuse. The two of you are grown adults and you should open your eyes and see what's important. Make it right with your new daughter because you sure as hell lost me" Autumn spat before pushing her chair backwards and heading towards the kitchen door
She didn't want to see their faces, she didn't want to even be in the same room with them anymore. They failed her again, it was stupid to even think that it would be different this time
They will always be toxic. But our minds can't help but wonder if anything will ever change
That's our mistake
"She's right you know" Kate mumbled as she rose to her feet
The two adults were too covered with shock to even register what was going on
"You two need to stop fucking around and get your act together. You're grown adults acting like the world is nothing but machines that can be controlled and no one has feelings. You have her the bare minimum with a house when she was younger and enrolled avoid your responsibilities of being a damn parents, you shipped her off to whatever acting classes you can find. You may think that you just gave her a head start in life by starting her career early but that's not what Autumn feels or thinks. The fact is, you just didn't want to put time in to care because the only thing that matters to the both of you is fucking work after work after work. What are you working all the time for? To prove a better life for the daughter that now resents you? Get your fucking shit together and don't come anywhere near Autumn again" Kate hissed before shoving back her chair
Kate's heart raced in her chest as she stared at the two adults wide eyed. The Hester family were silent, their mouths hanging slightly opened while the young girl held a small smile on her face
"Oh.. My god" Kate whispered to herself
Her mind had froze but panic didn't take over, she was taken by disbelief of Autumn actually standing up for herself
But Kate was even in more shock at herself. That burning anger flowed inside her but that didn't take away from her small nervous heart that was ticking away
The room was filled with a heated silence, the veins in the man's forehead was clearly visible while the mother scrunched her face up in disgust, clearly offended that someone had the audacity to speak to her in such a way
"I.. Um.. I'm gonna go find.. Autumn" Kate glared at the adults before heading towards the door
"Wait! Can I come too?" the young girl pouted
The fact that someone there had a heart from the kitchen was enough to make Katw smile. Especially to the fact that Lisa had gotten way more comfortable around Kate and Autumn in just half an hour than her own parents for months
"Ofcourse, come on" Kate chuckled as she nodded for the smaller girl to join her at the kitchen door
The young Hester giggled as she pushed her chair away, running towards the brunette who threw her arm over her shoulder
"That was- oh my god" The small girl laughed
"I know. I just hope she's okay now" Kate smiled
"I've always wanted to say those things" The girl said
"Why didn't you?"
"I-... Have you met them?" The girl chuckled
"Unfortunately I have. But now I understand something"
"What's that?"
"Why Autumn acts the way she does"
