I’m sorry, I’m not a part of this, though I feel like I have been with you through it all. You look sad and all I want to do is bring back that wide-eyed smile that seemed to never leave, but now it’s gone and so are you.
My heart feels heavy and I feel myself isolating, but I know it’s not my life. You have always been there for me, and now it’s my time to protect you. You’re someone who is the definition of a hug, you consume people with your laugh and jokes, though I can never bring myself to say it. But now I am willing to admit, I never want to let you go.
For years, our lives have always been connected but we’ve never truly been one, you continue to always be one step in front of me and every time I try to catch up, I’m knocked down. Sometimes by you.
Now I’m not leaving, I know you may want me to but I’m standing my ground, at least this time, because this time is more serious and you need to know I am here screaming from the top of my lungs, just for you.
We have never been an us, the flashbacks I describe, you seem faded from. But now you feel closer than ever and I never want ‘us’ to ever fade away.
