I have heard that you are dark-complexioned, just like the night sky.
Some picture you to be fair like milk,
Some have painted you blue, like the sky.
Then there's the entertainment industry portraying you golden-complexioned.
How do I see you Shyam?
I see you dark skinned just like me.
They named me Shyama-
The one who is dark!
In this world they say my dark skin is dark like the night sky.
Yet,
I am not beautiful.
They make fun of me and treat my face as an ill omen.
No, never in front of me!
It has always been behind my back.
But ears hear unpleasant words,
Isn't it?
I have been blamed for the cause of failures!
You are Shyam and I am Shyama.
You are dark and I am too.
Yet you are attractive to look while
I am not.
Perhaps they forget that
Dark is beautiful.

Welcome back with another poem.
Behind the scene: This poem is based on a friend who was in my previous school.
She was dark skinned and was made fun. I never supported people who used to do that but I never stood up for either.
She has left the school so have I. But till now when i think about her, the insults which were hurled at her come into my mind.
She was misunderstood. But people don't listen.
And that's how this poem was created.
