"Hey, Sis. Can you do me a favor?" Steven rushes over to her as she was strumming her lyre.
"Sure, bro! What do you need?" Isabella asks.
"Lick this!" he holds up a pumpkin seed.
"What?"
"Lick it!"
"I'm not licking that! I don't know where it's been!" she told him.
"It's not about where it's been! It's where it will take Lapis and Peridot!"
Isabella sighs as her brother gives her puppy-eyes, "Fine." she takes the pumpkin seed and licks it, "There."
"Thanks!"
...
"Hurry!" Peridot drags Isabella and Steven through the corn field she and Lapis made.
"Peridot, slow down!" Isabella giggles.
"But you need to see, we did it!" Peridot gestures to a small living pumpkin that Lapis was observing, the vegetable jumping and barking around like a dog, "Guess you don't know how vegetables work after all, Steven."
Isabella stares at her brother.
"Heheh. Yeah, you guys sure showed me." Steven smiles nervously.
"Bro, what did you have me do?" Isabella whispers.
"Come now, my little creation! You can assist in harvesting the rest of your kind." Peridot detaches the pumpkin dog from its stem and holds it in her hand. The pumpkin suddenly jumps out of her hand and runs towards Isabella, who picks it up.
"Uhh...Must be the pumpkin treats in your back pocket, sis. Heheh..." Steven smiles nervously again.
"But I don't have pumpkin treats." Isabella told him.
Peridot walks over to them, "That doesn't make sense. We made it! It should listen to us!"
Lapis walks up besides Peridot, "It's only just come into existence, and it already doesn't like us."
"Oh, come on. Go to Peridot and Lapis!" Isabella places the pumpkin down near the two Gems, but it jumps back into her arms, "Steven...tell them."
"I'm sorry, I think he's coming to Belle because...She's the one who made him." Steven explains.
"Oh. That explains it."
"Well, we made this one." Lapis picks up a normal pumpkin.
"It's...okay. But look at Isabella's." Peridot gestures to the pumpkin, "It has a face and everything..."
"It's true. Ours...doesn't have a face..."
"Oh no! Don't be sad! Wait right here. I have an idea!" Steven runs towards the pumpkin patch, "Our dad showed us how to do this once." he picks up a trowel, "First we make a mouth. Nyeh!" he slits a smile onto a pumpkin with the trowel as the pumpkin dog watches confusedly, "Then we make two...eyes." he jabs two holes into the pumpkin for the eyes, the pumpkin dog whimpering on fear as Isabella lightly stroked its head, "Hmm...Looking pretty good."
"Bro, you forgot a step." Isabella points out.
"Oh, yeah!" Steven carves an opening on the pumpkin, "You have to hollow it out!" he dumps the pumpkin guts out of the pumpkin onto the ground. The pumpkin dog freaks out and Isabella sets it in Lapis' arms.
"Yay! It loves us now." Peridot smiles as the pumpkin dog barks furiously at Steven, "Awww, it's okay, Veggie Head. That brute can't get you now."
Steven looks confused.
"Steven, you just killed one of its brothers." Isabella told him.
"Oh. Heheheh." he throws the trowel away and rubs the pumpkin guts off of himself, "It's nice to have a new addition to the family."
Suddenly, a plane flies overhead, the four looking up in surprise, "Huh?"
...
The plane was parked near the barn, the pilot standing in front of the barn and yelling in disbelief, "Ah-what?! What the...?! Hobos broke into the barn!"
The four arrive soon after that.
"Hey! Don't you touch our things!" Peridot yells.
"You're hobettes? A hobo is a man's job." the pilot said.
"Who's the human and what's he yelling about?" Lapis asks.
"I don't know. Did he own the barn or something before Dad?" Isabella asks.
"The real question is: where are my attack drones?" Peridot repeatedly presses a button on a remote.
"Peridot, you can't just attack a random human stranger." Isabella told her.
"Wait a minute. Those mysterious constructions, your weird appearance, your strange jewels. I know what you are. You're hippies! I heard about you on AM radio. What are you doin', comin' in here, socializin' this fine, American barn?" the pilot asks.
Steven looks confused as Peridot continues to press her remote.
Lapis sighs before picking the pilot up with a water hand, making him shout as the pilot is lifted into the air and surrounded by Peridot's attack drones.
"Oh, there they are." Peridot smiles.
"Wait! Don't hurt him!" Steven stops them.
"But he's attacking us, and our home." Lapis told him.
"He's not attacking you physically though. That's what you two are trying to do. He's being verbal and using words to attack you." Isabella told them.
Steven approaches the pilot, "Uh, hello! How's it goin'?"
"Uh, how do you think?!"
"Look, sir, what do you want?" Isabella asks.
"What I want? I want you hippies out of my barn!" the pilot shouts.
"Your barn?" Steven asks.
"I'll text Dad. Ask him what this is about." Isabella takes out her phone.
...
Greg arrives in his van with the other Crystal Gems.
"There they are." Steven points as he spots them running over.
"Greg got Isabella's message and we came, too." Pearl walked over to them.
"Is that the human giving you trouble?" Amethyst points at the pilot.
"I told you you two could use a guard dog." Garnet says as the pumpkin dog runs up, barking beside Lapis, "I guess that works."
"What're you doin' to that guy up there?" Greg asks.
"Lapis was just about to put him down." Isabella told him.
"Just...putting him down." Lapis drops him on the ground.
"Gently, not roughly." Isabella shakes her head.
"Uhhh! Not cool." the man gets up and dusts himself off, spotting a familiar face, "Greg?"
"Andy?"
"They know each other?" Pearl asks.
Isabella and Steven look at each other in confusion.
"This is perfect! Come on, help me chase off these freeloaders. They're usin' some kinda...hippie mind tricks." Andy gestures to his head.
"Umm..."
"Who told you you could move in here and mess this whole place up?"
"I did, Andy." Greg puts a hand on his shoulder.
"You did?! This is my parents' barn!"
"Um, Dad, who is this?" Steven walks over.
"How do you know each other, Dad?" Isabella adds.
""Dad"? You mean-No way."
Greg walks to his children, "Isabella, Steven, this is Andy. He's my cousin. Andy, meet Isabella and Steven. They're my daughter and son."
"Wow! It's really nice to meet you!" Steven exclaims.
"Does that mean you're our...first cousin, once removed?" Isabella asks.
"Forget that nonsense!" Andy pulls the two siblings into a hug, which agitates the Gems, "You call me Uncle Andy. I'm an uncle. I can't believe it. Greg, ya little turd, how come you never told me?"
"How was I supposed to?" Greg asks, "I haven't seen you in years!"
"And whose fault is that? You thought you were so much better than us, you just got in your van and drove away."
"That was like two decades ago!"
"Uncle Andy, can we get down now?" Steven asks.
"Oh, sorry." he puts the two down, "I'm not used to holdin' nieces and nephews." he turns to Greg, "'Cause I didn't know I had any! So, uh, which one of these girls is the wife? I gotta give her my condolences, right?" he elbows Greg and laughs, "Hey, come on. What, I gotta guess, here?"
"Um, Uncle Andy? Mom is...no longer with us." Isabella frowns.
"Uh, wow. I-I'm sorry. I didn't know." Andy puts his hands on the two siblings' heads.
"These people are sort of like her family, so I offered to let these two stay in the barn." Greg motions to Peridot and Lapis.
"Yeah? Ah, well, that was real nice of ya. But the barn's for the DeMayo family."
"DeMayo?" Isabella tilts her head in confusion.
Andy looks surprised, "Andy Demayo. Greg DeMayo. Isabella DeMayo. Steven DeMayo. We're the DeMayos."
"Actually, we're, umm...the Universes, now." Greg told him.
"You space walnut! You didn't even keep the family name? But you're goin' around givin' family property out like candy on...some...kind of...candy-givin'-out holiday?!"
"You mean Halloween?" Isabella asks.
"You're telling me Universe isn't a real last name?!" Steven puts his hands on his face in shock.
"It is a real name. I had it changed. Andy, look, they just really needed a place. They're alien refugees from space and-"
"They're illegal aliens!? Wha...? You couldn't even marry an American?!"
"What does that matter?!"
"DeMayo's a much cooler name than plain old Universe." Steven thinks to himself.
"Not the focus right now, Steven." Isabella told him.
"You turned your back on your family just so you could get in with a bunch of weirdo, hippie, Martian immigrants?!" Andy points at Peridot and Lapis, "You two, get the heck off my planet, out of my country, and out of my barn!"
Peridot holds up her remote, "Reactivating attack drones."
"Peridot, you can't just attack Andy! He's family!" Isabella told her.
"Uncle Andy?" Steven turns to him.
"Yeah?"
"I'm sorry we took over the barn."
"We didn't even know we had any other family to share it with." Isabella adds.
"You didn't, huh?" Andy glares at Greg.
"But this barn? It means a lot to all of us. We spent so much time together here." Steven told him.
"Well, my family spent a lot of time here, too. Once a year, we'd all meet up here, catch up, eat a big meal, have a good time. Years and years of family tradition." Andy told her.
"Oh, yeah?" Isabella smirks, "Well, we can do that, too."
"We've got a farm here with plenty of food. Let's make a big, traditional meal and eat it together. You'll have a good time, and then you'll have to admit they're family!" Steven points at him.
"And would you kick family out of the family barn?" Isabella asks.
"Ahh...Greg, you're lucky you got such cute kids. I know they didn't get it from you." Andy told him.
"So, you're letting them-"
"I'll give your coven a chance and eat your dinner, but only 'cause I lost my sandwich in the Atlantic. Now, excuse me, I gotta go get my junk out of the plane." Andy walks off.
"You think this'll work?" Steven asks.
"Maybe. Andy's never been the type to change his mind about something, and he's really got his longjohns in a twist. It's gonna take a lot to calm him down." Greg walks off too as the Gems walk over to the siblings.
"I don't like this guy. I don't like some-" Amethyst scoffs, "New Greg just showing up out of nowhere."
Pearl crosses her arms, "Our Greg is clearly the superior one."
"We're not leaving our home." Lapis says.
"If that clod thinks he can PUSH US AROUND-"
"Andy is a part of Isabella and Steven's family." Garnet interrupts Peridot, "We should make an effort to get on his good side."
"If he's our family, he's yours too." Isabella told her.
"Gems don't have family. At least, not before we came here." Garnet smiles at the two siblings, who smile back, "So for the sake of our family, tell us what to do." Pearl, Amethyst, Lapis, and Peridot join Garnet in a huddle.
"Let's get cooking!" Isabella and Steven exclaim.
The Gems begin to harvest the vegetables with Garnet summoning her gauntlets and punching the ground for the vegetables to fly up as Lapis flies down and catches them in a bag.
"Okay, give me the next row!"
"Alright!"
Garnet pounds the ground again, a shocked Andy watching on with Greg, Steven, and Isabella by his side.
"Whoa. Your aunt is uh, pretty strong."
"She works out." Isabella explains.
"Yeah I'll bet."
Amethyst is playing around with the pumpkin dog and she shapeshifts into one too, "Arf! Arf!" The Gem begins to chase the pumpkin dog around, to Andy's distaste, as Steven laughs.
Garnet begins harvesting and throwing corn in the air behind her, landing into the bag Lapis is carrying. The pumpkin dog is heard barking and ends up in the bag too. Garnet turns and throws a corn a little off distance, "Sorry, flyball!"
Lapis flies after the corn, swings the bag around and catches it.
"Yeah!"
"Nice catch, Lapis!"
Steven and Isabella cheer.
Lapis sets the bag down on the ground, revealing the abundance of vegetables harvested.
"This looks amazing!" Steven exclaims before the pumpkin dog emerges from the vegetable pile and barks in delight.
"For a vegetable garden, I'd say we're pretty fruitful." Garnet adjusts her visor.
"Is it just gonna be a bunch of vegetables?" Andy asks before sighing, "I should have figured, you're a bunch of vegetarians!"
"A vegetable grown by a family's love nourishes the body and soul." Isabella informs him.
"Aw, don't let them get to you, Isabella. I'll get you and Steven a stick of pepperoni for your birthdays."
Pearl and Peridot operate a machinery with a propeller. Perdiot is operating a control panel while Pearl is inspecting the engine of the machinery.
"Hmm. Let's turn it down to about 2000 degrees, for now." Pearl suggests.
"Sounds puny." Peridot turns the heat down.
Isabella and Steven walk over.
"I like the propellor on it. It's like it's Andy themed. I bet he's gonna love this!" Steven exclaims.
"We're ready for the veggies now!" Isabella calls out to her father and uncle.
"Be over in a sec, sweetheart!" Greg calls back as he and Andy carry boxes of vegetables down and set them down near the machinery.
"Hmm, seems like too much if you ask me-" Andy sees the propeller and engine, "Oh, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" he seethes in anger, his face turning red.
"Uh, Uncle Andy?" Isabella asks as Garnet, Lapis, and Amethyst run over.
"Dude, what's wrong?" Amethyst asks.
"I'll tell you what's wrong, "dude"! Everything! Can you not see this abomination sitting right in front of you!"
"What are you talking about?" Steven asks.
"It's the engine, boy, the ENGINE! They butchered my parents' plane and made- made...WHATEVER THIS THING IS!"
"It's an oven cooktop combo." Pearl smiles.
"It's TERRIBLE! That was the heart of the legendary wings of the "Daring DeMayos". I learned to FLY on this plane!"
"No one was even using that junk." Lapis told him.
"Now it's actually good for something." Peridot adds.
"Poor choice of words." Isabella pinches the bridge of her nose.
"See that's the problem with people like you, you think everything just belongs to you, cause nothing belongs to anybody, and you take it, and everything's cool! And it ain't cool!"
"Andy?" Greg speaks up.
Andy covers his face in frustration, "I'm gonna need a moment. I-I can't look at this right now." he storms off.
"Uh-"
"Andy, hold up!" Greg chases after him, "They didn't know!"
"Right, I get it. In-laws."
"This is going down in flames." Isabella groans, "It's such a mess."
"I'm sure Greg will turn this around." Pearl reassures her.
"What do you mean you weren't "technically married!?""
"Look, Andy-"
"We gotta up our game. It's going to take the ultimate party to turn this around. Like, all the best parties of all time put together!" Steven exclaims.
"I think that's doable." Pearl told him.
Pearl, Garnet, Peridot, and Lapis all get into Greg's van and drive off, waving to Isabella, Steven, Greg, Amethyst, and Andy, "See you in a bit!"
"Have fun!" Amethyst shouts back to her.
...
Isabella, Steven, and Andy prepare the vegetables, the boy picking up a knife.
"Ready?"
Suddenly, the pumpkin dog, on top of Amethyst's head, starts barking in distress, catching everyone's attention.
"What's going on with the pumpkin?" Amethyst asks.
"Steven killed a pumpkin right in front of it." Isabella explained as the pumpkin dog jumps off Amethyst and runs off.
"Whoa! Chill out, dude!" she chases after it as it whimpers in fear.
"You sure I can't help you with anything?" Greg asks his two children.
"It's okay. Uncle Andy and we got it." Steven says before noticing Andy skillfully peeling a potato, "Whoa! It's one peel!"
"How do you do that? I wanna learn!" Isabella adds.
"Aunt Deb and I usually got put on kitchen duty when the family got together. I peeled a lot of potatoes back in my day." Andy explained as he showed his niece how to do it.
"Aw man, what's Aunt Deb been up to lately?" Greg asks.
"Suddenly you care about Aunt Deb? Ohh, "Mr. Curiosity". Let's see if I can cram 20 years into a sentence." Andy deadpans.
"Here you go, bro." Isabella summons her shield, to Andy's surprise.
"Thanks!" Steven puts the cut-up veggies into it, "Uh, I'm gonna get these on the stove."
"Sure."
Steven places the shield on the cooktop, functioning as a pot, as the veggies begin to cook.
"Hehe. Hey. it works! You know I guess it's good these plane parts are getting some use. Maybe recycling ain't so bad." Andy says.
"Looks like you got a new plane, anyway." Greg points out.
"And she's a good one, too. Been all over the world in that thing."
"You've been all over the world?" Isabella asks.
"You better believe it. It's really something else, you know? Just you and the hum of your engine up in that thin air, no other people, no living things around to uh, keep you company." Andy pauses, shrugging, "But you know, it's not like there's much for me on the ground these days either, so uh..."
"Uh, Uncle Andy?" Steven asks as a car horn is heard.
"Your aunts are back."
The Gems return with groceries.
"So Andy, we heard you like marriage, so we thought, why don't we all marry each other?!" Pearl smiles.
"Uh...Pearl?" Isabella holds up a finger.
"Ta-daa!" Peridot unveils a wedding cake with multiple figurines on it as Andy reacts with a look of discomfort.
"And if that's not human enough for you, we can throw a little "being born"" Pearl says as Garnet was holding a balloon reading, "It's a boy!", "and some "dying"!"
Lapis carries a headstone that reads "R.I.P. Andy" over it, "We're very sorry for your marriage." she hands it to him.
"We tried to cover as many celebrations in the human lifespan as we could."
"Nice." Amethyst smiles victoriously.
Steven gets increasingly uneasy, "Oh boy..."
"I think they've really done it now." Isabella facepalms.
Andy starts laughing, "Okay, okay. I give up! It's too much!" he keeps laughing and takes off his flight cap, "Alright. Where am I sitting?"
...
It is evening, everyone sitting around a big table outside of the barn.
"What do you say we get right to it, huh? And hey! If we're throwing all tradition out the window anyway, why don't we start with this gorgeous cake!" Andy cuts a slice of the wedding cake, "Dessert before dinner!" he laughs and stops himself from digging in, "Where are my manners? Steven, pass it to your friend." he passes the plate to him.
Steven then passes the plate to Peridot.
"Oh. Where are my manners?" she passes the plate to Lapis.
"Oh. Where are my manners?" she passes the plate to Pearl.
"Oh, thank you Lapis. But where are my manners?" she passes the plate to Amethyst.
"Oh. Where are my manners?" she passes the plate to Garnet.
"Isabella." Garnet places the plate down in front of the teen girl.
"What, you guys don't like cake?" Andy asks.
"Oh, Gems don't really eat. They don't have a need for it." Isabella explains.
"Well, except for Amethyst." Steven gestures to the purple Gem.
"I'm good. I had, like, three bottles of cooking oil earlier." Amethyst pounds her chest and burps out purple fire.
"That's uh...alright." Andy smiles.
"That's what we forgot, more cooking oil!" Pearl says.
"And the shopping cart!" Peridot adds, "We should've taken it."
"We could've put it in the wall next to the truck." Lapis adds.
"That would have been stealing." Pearl told them.
"Cause it's made out of steel?" Steven asks jokingly.
"Didn't we save the earth?" Peridot crosses her arms, "We should have access to everything on it by right!"
"Or at least get a discount." Lapis adds.
"You guys think you're saving the Earth-"
Pearl interrupts Andy, "Saving the Earth from Homeworld is its own reward."
"You know what else would be a reward? A reward!" Peridot high-fives Lapis.
"Alright, we don't wanna start another Gem war at the table." Greg told them.
"Yeah, that's the last thing we need." Isabella adds in amusement.
"Oooh, don't start it!" Garnet wags her finger as Amethyst giggles in the background, Andy getting uncomfortable.
"What if I just came to this table and started colonizing it 'cause "I'm a Homeworld Gem?!"" Peridot suggests as Isabella, Steven, and Lapis giggle.
Amethyst gasps, "But you can't! This table has corn on it and it's beautiful and "we'll defend it!""
Everyone laughs along, except Andy, who doesn't get the joke.
"You're right. Now that I've spent time at the table, I can see the value of your corn!" Peridot exclaims as everyone laughs again.
"Why don't you put that corn in a mirror for thousands of years and then see how it feels about the table?!" Lapis asks as she and Peridot laugh aloud, the others staring awkwardly, "IT WOULD REALLY HATE THE TABLE!"
"You know what? Thank you, kiddos. Putting this meal together was a great idea." Greg told his children.
"Oh no, we should be thanking Garnet. She gathered up all the vegetables." Steven says.
"Lapis and Peridot grew them. Thank you." Garnet thanked the two Gems.
"Oh, but it was Pearl who drove us to the "store"." Peridot points out.
"Well, I have to thank Isabella and Steven for cooking the vegetables. And Amethyst, for putting out that grease fire." Pearl adds.
"And starting it. Oh, and thanks to Greg for lending his van." Amethyst says.
Greg laughs in response.
"Thank you, Uncle Andy." Isabella speaks up.
"What for?" Andy asks in confusion, "I mean, I taught you how to peel a potato in one go, but-"
"Well, that. And also for coming back here. I love the Gems, but my brother and I are human too. We never got to know anyone from Dad's side of the family, but now we do. Uncle Andy, I want to be your family."
"Me too!" Steven adds.
Andy smiles, "Thanks, kids."
"Yes! Was everyone thanked?" Pearl raises her hand, "Raise your hand if you were thanked!" Everyone does so.
"Cheers!" Peridot holds up her plate, the Gems following suit, "Cheers!"
Isabella, Steven, Greg, and Andy laugh at this.
...
"You can have it. The Barn. It's yours." Andy told the two Gems.
"Wow, thanks!" Peridot smiles.
"Hey, Andy?" Greg walks over to him, "I'm really glad you came back."
Andy is silent for a second, then hugs Greg with a big smile, "Ah, come here you goofball!" he chuckles, "You need a haircut, son." he and Greg laugh together as Isabella and Steven smile, the pumpkin dog running in.
"Pumpkin!"
"Hey, you got some leftovers for me, you little-you little freak of nature there?" Andy jokes.
Pumpkin coughs up a groom figurine from the wedding cake as Isabella, Steven, Greg, and Andy start laughing together.
"That's, uh..." Andy stops laughing, "That's gross."
