EMMAS P.O.V:
Spring. The season everyone thought meant love. I used to loathe those people, because I wasn't one of them, but now I am. I couldn't love Alex anymore than I already do.
I'm currently sitting in a field on a sunny spring day, wearing a tight white tank top and dark blue skinny jeans.
My loose blond hair is brushing over my shoulders in the light breeze. I love it, because the thought of Alex makes it all seem brighter. Suddenly, I feel arms snake around my waist. I feel a smile crawl across my lips.
I look over at Alex with a bright smile, but he doesn't smile back. His lips are pressed in a tight line, and his dark blue eyes are filled with sadness.
"Em," he says, sitting beside me, "we need to talk." He wraps his arm around me and pulls me close to him. I look up at him. He's staring out into the open, running a hand through his gorgeous hair. Finally, he looks down at me. "I-I'm moving to Alabama." I feel my heart freeze. He-he's what? No, no it can't be true. I look up at him. His eyes are glassy and his bottom lip is trembling.
"Emma," he says, hugging me tight, "I love you. I know, we're young but it's true, I could've never cared about someone the way I care about you." I feel dead, like he just stabbed me. I hug him back, like my life depended on it, which maybe it did.
"When do you leave," I whisper.
"Tomorrow at four."
"P.m?"
"A.m."
I right about shattered there. He wasn't going to be at school. I would be alone.
We stand and stare into each others eyes. "I'm so sorry, but I have to go soon, my mom's making me stay inside the rest of the day to pack."
"Why are you here then?"
He smiles and presses his lips to mine. I would miss this, his gentle caress, his kindness. We stay like that for a while, before he pulls away. "I couldn't leave without that," he says. He brushes a strand of my hair behind my ear and wipes away a tear that had mistakenly escaped. Then, he pulls away and walks off. I would go after him, but the lump in my throat is way too big. Instead, I take one last look at him. His hightops, his white T-shirt, his skinny jeans, his gray beanie. Then, I race home. I slam my bedroom door shut and sob into my pillow. I fall asleep with dreams of Alex filling my head. His perfectness. His soft blue eyes, his hard, strong arms. Already I miss him. Still asleep, I make a vow to myself. I vow I will never fall in love with someone like I loved Alex. Because I will always belong to him. Always.
