"Oi! Oikawa, let me in!"

"No!"

He scowled and began pounding on the door again, using both hands that were curled into fists.

"Shittykawa! I didn't come all the way just for you to shut the door in my face! Open the door!" He shouted over the sounds of his aggressive knocking.

"No, Iwa-chan! Leave me alone! I'm sick, and you might get sick, too." replied the brunette.

He stopped his pounding for a second to sigh. It was quiet on the other side as he placed a hand on the door.

"Are you mad at me, Shittykawa?" He asked, quietly.

He waited a moment to hear the answer he know he wouldn't get.

"Fine. I'm leaving the medicine here, so I'll be going now. See you later." He huffed.

Iwaizumi slid the bag off his wrist and placed it down by the door. With one last glance, he stepped away from the house.

The door opened a minute later, and Oikawa peeked out. The brunette took a quick look around before stepping out of the house and picking up the bag of medicine that Iwaizumi left.

He bent down to pick it up when a sudden force picked him up by his waist.

"Iwa-chan? Put me down!" screamed Oikawa.

Iwaizumi tightened his hold on the brunette as he entered the house, looking around the expansive inside. He spotted a couch and decided to set the screaming Oikawa down on it.

It wasn't as gentle as he wanted it to be, but because of how aggressively the brunette was fighting back, he had to drop the boy down.

Maybe toss is a better word.

"First you interrupt my nap, then you break into my house, then you throw me?!" shrieked Oikawa.

"Calm down, Shittykawa." He said, calmly. "You wouldn't answer my texts so I was worried."

The brunette pouted and crossed his arms, turning away from Iwaizumi. The latter sighed and sat down next to the boy.

"Will you tell me what's wrong? Why are you avoiding me?"

Oikawa side-eyed him but didn't reply.

Iwaizumi huffed and set the plastic bag of medicine down in front of him. "If you don't want to talk about it, fine. Just let me take care of you. You're sick. Also, put a shirt on."

Oikawa rolled his eyes. "It's too hot for a shirt, Iwa-chan."

"Mhm." He hummed, lifting a hand to Oikawa's forehead to feel the brunette's temperature. It was hot and slicked with sweat. Iwaizumi pulled his hand back in surprise.

"You're burning up! Let's go to a hospital," he stood and grabbed Oikawa's arms.

The brunette looked surprised and quickly pulled them back. He avoided Iwaizumi's eyes. "I'm not going."

"But you're sick! Come on, let's just go and get it over with."

"I said no. Besides, it's not that serious. I'll be fine after I sleep," said Oikawa. He finally turned to face Iwaizumi with narrowed eyes. "I could be all better by now if you didn't interrupt my nap!"

Iwaizumi rolled his eyes. "You said you wanted my notes. Plus you weren't answering your phone." And then he added more quietly, "No one's taking care of you, either. Is your mom busy?"

Oikawa snapped his head towards him. "My mom?"

"Yeah. I met her by the gate. It seemed like she was in a rush."

The brunette puffed at his bangs, not replying.

Iwaizumi couldn't stand the silence so he blurted aloud, "Your mom seems nice."

Oikawa glanced at him before chuckling humorlessly. "She's not my mom."

Iwaizumi watched the brunette casually grab his right forearm, covering up the skin away from his view. "Ah. Who is she then?"

"She adopted me," said Oikawa.

"Oh, I see."

The brunette didn't reply, and it quickly became awkward after that. Iwaizumi wasn't a genius, but he could tell that Oikawa didn't want to talk about it any further, so he didn't push it.

He grabbed the bag of medicine and took out some pills. "I'll get you some water, but you should take these. It'll make you feel better."

Oikawa nodded. "There's water bottles in the kitchen. Could you grab one for me?"

"Yeah, stay here." Iwaizumi stood and left the living room to go to the kitchen.

It was sleek white, similar in design to the room before. He brushed his fingers over the cold marble counters and spotted some bottles of water. Iwaizumi grabbed one and headed back out.

But he accidentally went through the wrong door and entered another room. There was a large dining table with matching chairs, so he figured it was where the Oikawa's had meals.

His eyes glanced around the room, not too interested in it, until he spotted a red stain on one of the walls.

He moved closer to inspect it. On the ground was little shards of glass and a puddle of red liquid.

Forgetting about the water bottle, he set it aside and crouched down to get a closer look. He stuck a finger into the puddle, careful to avoid glass pieces.

It doesn't seem like blood, he thought.

He brought his fingers to his nose, smelling the liquid.

His nose crinkled at the smell of alcohol. Red wine, he figured.

Did they drop a glass on the floor? He looked back up at the stain on the wall. That doesn't explain why it's on the wall, though.

What happened? He wondered.

Remembering that Oikawa was waiting on him, he quickly wiped his fingers on his pants and grabbed the water bottle before rushing out of the dining room.

He found his way back to the living room where Oikawa was sprawled out on the couch, the TV playing the news.

The brunette perked up at the sound of his entrance.

"What took you so long, Iwa-chan? I thought you got lost or something."

Iwaizumi handed the bottle of water over to Oikawa before taking a seat down on the couch with him.

"Your house is pretty big," he said.

Oikawa laughed. He opened one of the medicine boxes and took two pills out. With a big gulp of water, he swallowed the pills.

Iwaizumi watched all of this, staring at the brunette carefully. The brown curls were obscuring his temple, so he couldn't see if the bruise was still there.

But he could see the dark bags under those chocolate brown eyes. He could see the tiredness in them, too; the pale tone of his skin—

And if he looked a little closer, he could see something white poking out in between strands of Oikawa's hair.

Instinctively, Iwaizumi reached a hand out, brushing aside the hair.

Oikawa, too surprised to do anything, stayed still and silent.

A gasp escaped Iwaizumi's lips as he reveals a bandage patch on Oikawa's forehead. Right where the bruise used to be.

"Shittykawa, what the hell did you do?" He asked, anger rising in his tone.

Oikawa snapped out of it and flinched back from his touch. He moved his bangs back to cover the bandage up.

"Don't worry, Iwa-chan. Haha. Just a little cut."

The nervousness in the brunette's voice was unmistakable.

"Did someone do this to you?" whispered Iwaizumi.

Oikawa's eyes widened and he quickly shook his head.

"Answer me, Oikawa. What's going on? Why won't you tell me anything? We're friends, aren't we? You said so yourself the first day we met."

Oikawa shook his head again, not speaking a word.

"Are you suddenly mute? Why won't you say anything?" Hurt crept into his voice as he asked the brunette.

"I don't want to lie to you, Iwaizumi," mumbled Oikawa. "I'm sorry."

"Then tell me the truth," he said. "I'll listen to you, Shittykawa. Just tell me what's going on."

Oikawa shook his head again. "I can't. Not now."

And then the brunette broke down into tears. Iwaizumi felt guilty so he grabbed him and pulled the boy into a tight embrace.

The room was quiet except for the sounds of Oikawa's sobs and Iwaizumi's quiet whispers.

Eventually the boy calmed down, but Iwaizumi didn't let go.

He remembered how he felt a few years ago; all he wanted was someone to hold him.

You can't change the past, but you can change the future.

Although he wasn't absolutely certain about what was going on inside the Oikawa household, he could put a few pieces together.

Whatever the case, he knew that Oikawa probably shouldn't be alone tonight.

"Shittykawa, I'm staying the night."

Immediately, Oikawa snapped his head up. The crying boy a minute ago is suddenly someone else. "Already? Don't you think we're moving a little fast, Iwa-chan?"

Iwaizumi scoffed but was secretly happy to see the normal Oikawa again. "That's funny, Crappykawa. But no. I'm staying over because my parents are out of town, and I don't want to be alone."

Oikawa wiggled his eyebrows. "So what do you want to do tonight, Iwa-chan?" He asked, slyly. His voice sounded a bit strained from the crying.

Iwaizumi shoved the brunette away as his face flushed red. "Shut up, Shittykawa."

"I'm kidding, Iwa-chan," laughed Oikawa. His face suddenly became serious again as he scooted closer to Iwaizumi. "Unless?"

The latter pushed the brunette away with his hand. "No," he stated.
