"I mean it is true, us Abdullahi's do love our food." -Hamid Abdullahi, FH.
CHAPTER SIX: Expecting The Unexpected

•Two Months Later•

Hamid Abdullahi

"No." I stated with a stern tone. Mahirah looked up at me and pouted once again which made me feel a little bit bad. No Hamid, don't give in! I told myself. I then looked at her once again and couldn't help but feel bad a little. But the thing is I'm already running super late as it is for work and I really can't take her to get McDonalds! Also what's wrong with the food that Amran made? Sure it's a little burnt on the sides but still. She worked very hard on it. "Please Hammy? Please?" She begged as she made a puppy dog face. No, Hamid stay strong don't give in, I thought to myself.

"Ugh, fine." I gave in. Man why is it so hard for me to say no to this little girl? It's so hard for me to say no to all of my sisters, particularly her and Amara. I always had this protective older brother feeling for the both of them, more specifically for Mara. I mean at our age boys will just throw themselves at her. That's why I'm keeping a close eye on Zubair, sure he's my friend but at the end of the day, he's still a guy too.

"Yaay!" She exclaimed as she jumped up and down. I pick her up and hold her on my waist.

"What do you want? A happy meal?" I asked her. She nodded her had excitedly, making her little brown curls bounce up and down adorably with an adorable smile on her face. I'm glad I'm making her happy by doing so small like buying her food. I mean it is true, us Abdullahi's do love our food.

Zubair Hassan

"Bayla come in here!" I yelled at my little sister.

"What?" She asked stubbornly as she walked down the stairs with her phone in one hand and her headphones in the other. I crossed my arms over my chest as I watched her come downstairs and into the living room of our house. "It's the second time one of my shirts went missing. Did you give it to your weird friends again?" I asked her with my arms still crossed. It's so weird that her friends would want my clothing. She gave me a nervous smile before giggling slightly.

"Um... maybe? They gave me twenty bucks just so they could smell your clothes." She responded with guilt written all over her face. Alright that is just way too creepy, who even does that? I slowly let out a sigh and layed down on the couch. "Fine but just stop touching my stuff. It's beyond annoying." I responded with a frustrated sigh.

"Ok but can I take one of your colognes? My friend keeps bugging me for them. She claims 'They smell like heaven on your gorgeous brother' Ugh!" She says with a weird look on he face. How would her friend even know how I smell? I couldn't help but shutter at the thought. Not to sound conceited or anything but I do get compliments like that from a lot of people, not just her creepy friends. It's kind of weird, I usually dislike being praised like that. The only one who deserves all praise is Allah. I mean he made the heavens and the earth so instead of fan-girling over someone like me, why can't they do something beneficial with their time? Teens these days...

"No!" I said as I walked inside my room and closed the door. The moment I walked in, I opened the box I put Amara's necklace in and held it in my hands. How can I give this to her without being a total creep? Not that I care what she thinks... okay so I care. Her words are just so raw and honest. She says whats on her mind and I like that. Her words did really get to me.

Amara... why are you on my mind so much?

Amara Abdullahi

"Ok breathe in and out Amran." I said to my sister as she rubbed her belly which is small but seems to look bigger day by day. She's now 2 months pregnant which I still can't believe. Also Ramadan is coming around in a couple of days which makes me happy because I just love the feeling of knowing that Ramadan is in the air. I mean it's just so peaceful and that feeling alone is enough to make anyone smile. Enough to even make me smile and I rarely do that.

"Wow I think I'm starting to get a little big!" Amran said as she looked at herself in the mirror.

"Well your pregnant girl so get used to it." Her friend, Farah said as she smiled at my sister. Farah is like another sister to all of us, I mean her and Amran have been friends since the third grade. She's always been there for her and even for me and the rest of our siblings. Especially after Ma was diagnosed and Baba walked out on us all of those years ago. I can't believe he hasn't even contacted us after everything that went down. I remember always asking why he didn't care for us enough to stay and get sober, why he chose alcohol over his own kids. I guess I'll never find out.

"I know." Amran said as she covered her belly and walked back into the kitchen. Amran, Farah, Amelia and I are having a girl's day which we haven't had in forever. "I still can't believe you're pregnant. I'm happy for you and Nur!" Amelia said as she smiled at Amran.

"Thanks, babe."

"So let's talk about girl stuff! Like who's that guy that I always see staring at you Mara?" Farah said as she brought in ice cream and chips for all of us. What guy?... Perhaps is she talking about Kenny? When does he even stare at me? She's confused.

"What?" I said with a laugh.

"No seriously for the past two months, ever since we heard about Amran's pregnancy, he'd always be here hanging with Hamid but I'd always see him looking at you!" She added as she gave me googling eyes. Again, when does Kenny look at me? And why would he look at me? Doesn't he have fangirls throwing themselves at him? Impossible.

"He does look at you a lot Mara." My sister stated as she took a spoonful of the Cookies & Creme Ice Cream. Amy also nodded her head in agreement. What are they even talking about?

"Whatever I don't want to talk about Kenny!" I blurted out loud. Wait did I just blurt out my nickname for him? Man that nickname was suppose to only stay in my head!

"Kenny? I thought his name is Zubair..." Farah said with a confused look on her face. "It is but I call him Kenny. You know Barbie and Ken? He reminds me of him, except he's the middle eastern version of Ken." I said with a shrug and also took a scoop of the ice cream.

"Aw you guys have nicknames! You're the Barbie to his Ken!" Amelia teased, the others laughed along with her. "Ugh shut up! I don't like him anyways. Isn't this suppose to be a halal place? Stop talking about boys! Haram, haram, haram!" I said with a shake of my head. Thought otta shut them up for sure.

"You're right... so what should we talk about?"

"Baby names?" Farah suggested.

"Aigoo, Nur and I aren't in that stage yet." My sister said as she muttered some other things in Korean.

For those of you who don't know,we're half Korean, I always wanted to visit my mother's homeland, South Korea but I never got the chance to. You see my mom is Korean and my dad is Arab so that's why our last name is Abdullahi. I'm fluent in three languages, English, Korean and Arabic which is pretty cool. But growing up mixed has always been very confusing, especially not knowing where you belong.

"Look who's bringing out the Korean in her!" Amelia said with a laugh. "Watch next she's going to be talking about Kpop or Kdramas." Farah added with a laugh.

"Hey don't diss my Korean Dramas, they're awesome. Ah... Lee Min Ho." I said with a sigh. Yes I'm a total Kdrama fanatic especially any drama that has Lee min ho in it! Ah if only he were a few years younger and Muslim...

"Don't diss Kpop either! It's awesome. Exo... Kris is just so adorable." Amran added.

"Hey I'm the only guy you can call adorable!" Nur's familiar voice boomed throughout the house. Amelia, Farah and I looked at each other with grins on our faces. Why does Nur get jealous so easily? It's kind of adorable to see how he gets jealous whenever Amran mentions another guy other than him.

"Don't worry you're the only guy for me." My sis said as she winked at Nur. Bluh I feel like puking!

"Okay then, good." He said with a five mile smile.

After a while Amelia and I decided to go upstairs to my room so we can leave those two besties to talk. I jumped on my purple bean bag while Amelia sat on my blue one. "So what's up?" I said as I took some of the chips out of her grasp. It's been a while since we've both relaxed and just talked with each other about anything and everything. "Well my brother came back from Europe." She stated. Wait, what did she just say? Ahmed is back and I didn't even know?
"So tomorrow we're throwing a welcome back party! Oh and Ahmed told me to say hi to you for him." She said as she wiggled her eyebrows up and down.

Ahmed... it's been so long since I saw him. Ever since he got into a really big fight a couple of years back his parents decided to send him to Europe to live with him and Amelia's aunt and uncle. For almost six years I haven't seen his face or mentioned him. But he'd still always be on my mind, even when I didn't him to be. I can't believe he's back...why now though? It's been six years for crying out loud! Why did he just randomly decide to come back now of all times? He was my best friend, the person I'd always lean on...he was my first love. But things happened between us and our friendship some how desolved over time. He never called to apologize, he just forgot about me.

"Really? W-When did he come back?" I asked looking at anywhere but her. Calm down Mara, everything is going to be fine. Just because he's back doesn't mean your old feelings for him will come back. Plus, you were a kid back then. What did you know about love? I tried to convince myself. I don't want to like him again, not after he left me in shambles. I can't let myself be vulnerable like that ever again.

"A couple of days ago... that's why we haven't talked much. Also you were so busy with your mom, your sisters pregnancy and Zubair business. It just didn't seem like the right time." She explained, trying to make me understand why she didn't say anything sooner. I nodded my head in understanding, as I tried to change the subject. "It's cool, I'll help set up for the party." I said with a genuine smile. Just because Ahmed and I got into a fight doesn't mean things have to be awkward between us, right? I hope not. Part of me wants our friendship back because missed talking to him. He was one of my best friends but then one day it all just changed.

"Awesome! Now come on let's watch a movie! I'm really in the mood for horror!"

"Me too, want to watch Annabelle?"

"You know it!"

* * *

Amelia decided to sleep over at our house which was really fun. After the horror movie we decided to play pranks on everyone in the house. Our first target was Hamid, he's always the easiest target. Easier than Mahi which is really saying something. Ever since we were younger, we'd always love to pull pranks on my twin. Honestly, he just made it too easy. Amelia and I quickly turned off all of the lights in his room and threw ice cold water at him while he was asleep. And to say he was pissed would be an understatement, dude chased us around the house but it was still so worth it. For the others we played small pranks on them but it was equally funny.

The next morning I decided to get up early and cook breakfast. After brushing my teeth, combing my hair and wrapping a scarf around it I went downstairs and turned on the stove."Whatcha doin'?" Amelia said as she hopped down the stairs.

"Rocket science, what do you think I'm doing?"I pointed to the stove, pan and eggs in my hands. Amelia just rolled her eyes."Well, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed!" She exclaimed as she grabbed an apple and took a bite of it. "What time do we need to set up for the party?" I asked as I cracked two eggs at the same time and poured them on to the pan."In like two hours. We have to hurry and go to the store first and buy some decorations! Oh man we can't carry a lot of stuff at once, can you ask Hamid to come?" She asked as she batted her eyelashes.

"Ask me to come where?" My brother asked as he sat down at the kitchen counter. Amelia smiled at the opportunity to ask him to come with us. You see Amelia has always had a crush on my brother which I think is way weird. Then again I had a crush on her brother so I think we're even. "To come shopping with us for Ahmed's surprise party!" She explained. Hamid's eyes widened when he heard the name Ahmed come out of Amelia's mouth. He's probably really happy to hear Ahmed came back. I mean they were pretty close when we were kids and I bet they still can be the friends that they once were. Never say never, right? Just so you know I'm not quoting bieber, I just like the saying.

"Sure but can Zubair and Jamal tag along? We have to go somewhere afterwards." He asked as he grabbed his keys off of the counter. No,no,no NO! I quietly exclaimed in my head. Please no Kenny, he'll annoy the heck out of me! Then again it isn't my choice. Damn it!

"They can come right Mara?" Amelia said as she looked at me. I can't just say no now then I'll just sound like a whining baby. "F-Fine they can come" I muttered while watching the eggs on the stove. Ugh, today is going to be a long day!

* * *

The moment  Hamid left to pick up Jamal and Zubair, both Amelia and I went back inside my room and started eating the scrambled eggs that I made while looking in my closet for something to wear.

"Ooh wear that dress right there! You never do wear it and it looks so cute on you!" She suggested as she pointed at my pink floral dress. My mom bought me that dress... I never wear it cause I just like looking at it. I always said I'd only wear it for a special occasion, I guess this counts as one.

"Come on don't say no! You'll look so cute in it" She added.

"Okay."

Zubair Hassan

Spend the day shopping with Hamid, Jamal, Amelia and Amara? At first I thought it was weird but then something else came to mind. I could finally return her necklace to her! I've been meaning to for the past couple of months but then she'd always dodge me like I'm toxic or something. Usually girls would chase after me not runaway from me. I never had to go through all of this just for a girl before. Usually it just came simply to me! But then again, Amara is not like every other girl. As corny as it may sound, she's different than every other girl that I've met. She brutally honest, she's caring towards the people that she loves, she's just...she's real. You know? Oh God I do sound so corny.

After the car ride with Hamid and Jamal, the two girls came outside and drove Amelia's car. I couldn't help but look at Amara... she looked really pretty, Mashallah. She doesn't even have to try hard and that's something a lot of people don't have. The ability to not try so hard and just be yourself. I mean I've seen girls completely change their looks by getting plastic surgery just to impress guys. I'm not one of those guys that are interested in girls like that and I hope I never will be.

"Yo, dude whats up with you?" Jamal asked as he waved a hand in front of my face. Man, was I staring too long? Shit. "Nothing." I replied as I cleared my throat and turning around. I then dug my hand into my pocket and felt the heart shaped locket and squeezed it.

* * *

"So who's this party for again?" I asked Hamid as we walked around in the mall. "It's for Amelia's twin brother who was my friend too. He was also really close to Mara." He replied as he grabbed a couple decorations and went to the cashier. "What happened? I mean why did he leave?" I asked casually. AsI looked around I saw a couple of girls here and there, staring at me and Hamid. I'm used to ignoring them and I'm pretty sure Hamid is too.

"He got into a really big fight one day so his parents just sent him to Monte Carlo to live with his aunt and uncle for a while." He stated as he grabbed his wallet and paid the cashier lady who's giving googly eyes to us.

"Oh."

Hamid looked over at me and smirked.

"Don't get jealous though, I bet they don't like each other any more." He said with a wide smile. All of a sudden I started coughing hard, what is this dude talking about?

"W-What?" I stuttered.

"Dude, I know you like my twin." He let out a laugh. "It's written all over your face!" He added. I rolled my eyes as we continued to walk around, trying my best to cover up the embarrassed loom I had on my face.

"I don't like her like that!"

"Yeah right, whatever you say. Let's go see what Jamal's doing. We can talk about how much you like my twin later"

Ugh, I don't like her, right?

Ahmed Abdulrahman

Finally I'm back home... I missed it here in Miami, I miss the sun, the oceans and her... Amara. Other than my family she's the only one that I missed the most. I wonder how she is... did she change a lot? Is she same person like before? I hope so... she's perfect the way she is and I wouldn't want her to change!

I can't wait to see her...
