Riley's POV
It was New Year's Eve and I was on plane with Abby, Maddy, and Mia. We're heading to Washington for the big game tomorrow. I'll admit, I'm a little nervous to see Jonathan. We really haven't talked much since the party, he's been busy with hockey and I've been occupied with my dad. We texted but that's been about it. I just don't want it to be awkward.
"So where did you and Jonny disappear to, the other day?" Mia asks taking out her ear buds
She was the only one sitting next to me, since we were riding in coach. Perks of having a hockey player as an uncle
"Oh nowhere, we just went somewhere to talk."
"You mean 'to talk' I see."
"Mia, we're just friends. We've been through this." I laugh
"But you want to be more than just friends, don't you?" She smirks
"Like I said, we're just friends."
"Oh come on Riley cut the crap. I know that you like him!" Mia yells, earning some stares from the other passengers
I laugh as she ducts down, a little embarrassed
"I see the way, you look at him." she whispers
"So what does that have to do with anything?"
"Everything! You like him!"
It's silent for a minute before I say
"So what if I like him! Like I said it doesn't matter, he only sees me as a friend."
"How do you know? You never know if you don't try."
"Trust me I know! And besides even if he did like me, it wouldn't work out, we're already too good of friends, it would ruin our friendship."
"So your saying if Jonathan did like you, it wouldn't matter because it would risk your friendship?" Mia questions
"Yup." I say grabbing my ear buds
"So your just not going to tell him how you feel, and hope that you move on?"
"Pretty much."
It's silent for minute, as Mia sits back in her seat, trying to take it all in.
Looks like I won this battle I smirk to myself , right as Mia sits back up
Oh no I think
"But you know the heart wants what it wants." Mia smirks
I roll my eyes at her, placing one ear bud in my ear
"You know she's right." Abby says in the seat across from us, flipping through some magazine
I roll my eyes at both of them this time, placing the other ear bud in my ear just as
"But the heart wants what it wants"
Blasts through the speakers
"Ugh." I groan closing my eyes

We finally made it to the hotel after a long flight. Mia was bunking with us since there was just Abby, Maddy, and I.
"We're gonna go and explore the hotel." I call out to Abby
Opening the door
"Alright, just stay out if trouble!" Abby tells us
"Yeah yeah, we will!" I chuckle
Shutting the door
The guys were at practice and wouldn't be back for at least a half an hour so we had some time to kill
"So what do you want to do?" I ask Mia, pushing the button for the elevator
"You know we should do something tonight." she tells me ignoring my question
The elevator doors open and we get in pressing the down button
"What do you mean?"
"Like I heard there's a ball drop tonight, and it's only like a block away."
"Yeah that sounds like fun!"
The elevator doors open once more before walking out
"So you in then?"
"Yeah." I nod

I just finish getting dressed for tonight, Mia and I were going out to watch the ball drop along Pat and Jon. No else wanted to go, so it was just the four of us
I had on a grey v-neck sweater, dark wash skinny jeans, a pair of short Uggs, along with a grey beanie to go with my sweater. My hair was left natural. I left the bathroom to see Mia ready
"Ready?" she's asks looking up from her phone
She had a teal crew neck sweater, with some white skinny jeans, along with some tall boots, and cream color knitted beanie
"Yup!" I say putting on my north face and grabbing my scarf and mittens
Mia puts on her hooded parka, before grabbing her scarf and mittens as well
"We're leaving." I call out to Abby and Patrick
"Alright have fun." Abby tells us
"Don't do anything stupid." Patrick joins in
Mia and I just roll our eyes
"Try not to." I laugh opening the door
Mia laughs as she shuts the door
"Pat texted me and said him and Jonathan are in the lobby waiting for us." Mia tells me while we wait for the elevator
I just nod my head
As the elevator doors open and we get in pressing the lobby button
A few seconds later the doors open and we get out, only to see Pat and Jon waiting for us
"Hey!" We say approaching them
"Hey!" They greet back
Mia and Pat hug and share a kiss while Jon and I make some small talk waiting for them to be done with there little make out session
"Shall we?" Jon asks
As Mia and Pat pull apart
We all just nod, as Jon begins to lead us of the hotel and into the cold air
"Excited for the game tomorrow?" I ask Jon as Mia and Pat flirt with each other behind us
"Yeah! It's always fun to be given the opportunity to be part of the winter classic."
"Yeah it looks like a lot of fun! My dad and I always used to watch them."
"Yeah it is! But this is your first time actually being at the winter classic right?" Jon asks
"Yeah! I can't wait!" I laugh
"Well I guess that means I'll have to make it very special, just for you." he winks
I blush tucking a loose strand of my hair behind my ear
"Wow." I breathe as we stop and take in the crowds of people
Like it's obviously nothing compared to New York City or Los Angelo's but man there's still tons of people
We some have managed to squeeze through the crowd and get a perfect view of where the ball will be dropping
It was almost midnight and Jon and I were talking how fast 2014 went by and can't believe its already 2015.
We turned around to ask Mia and Pat something but when we did they were gone
"That didn't take long." I smirk
"Yeah, well it's going to be fun trying to find them after all this is over." Jon says
We continue talking and before we know it we're already counting down

And before I know it Jon's lips are smashed against mine, at first I'm confused but once I know what's going on I automatically kiss back. For what seem like forever we finally pull apart, as Jon rests his forehead against mine while grinning ear to ear, I can feel my cheeks start to get warm, as a grin spreads across my face.

Today's finally the big game, it was New Years as well but everyone was more excited for the game to even realize its a new year. It was a beautiful day for hockey game.
The game was just about to begin, as we take out seats
2 hours later
The Hawks lose 3-2 to the caps
I could tell they were all heart broken as they left the ice. I think the hardest part was to be so close to over time and have the other team score with only 13 secs left, but what are you going to do.
We wait a little bit before going down to see them, knowing its going to a little while before any of them come out
I knew Jon was pissed with what he got called for. I know he's going to blame himself for costing them the game but it's not his fault. Sometimes things happen and there's nothing you can do about it. I doubt he'll go for it but its worth a shot. Plus we haven't talked about yesterday after the kiss, so I don't really know where we stand.
But maybe Mia's right maybe he does actually like me
"Oh no." I hear Abby say with a horrifying look on we face
"What?" I ask
Seeing that both Mia and Abby have the same look on their face
I look over to what they're looking at and see
Jonathan kissing some girl who seems to look a lot like Lindsey. He finally notices me and yells
"Riley!!"
But it's too late I'm already gone
"So much for making today special."
