Dimitri
I was boiling with anger.
Our memories came flashing back in front of my eyes.
A knock on the door brought me back to the reality
"What is it?"
“Sir I need your sign for the project assigned to the interns.”
"I started signing the papers."
“ It’s a big project sir do you think they’ll be able to do it? Most of them are not yet aware of all the concepts."
"How many of them have arrived?"
I asked giving him a cold glare.
“Only Ms. Adams has arrived yet.”
I nodded.
April….
A quick idea passed my mind...
She said she’ll prove her worth.
I’ll give her a chance to prove her worth.
"Hand over the project to her, call the others and say it’s a day off."
“But sir…”
"Do what you have asked to and let her know clearly until the project is done she can not step a foot outside the office."
“yes sir..”
I quickly got up from my seat and poured myself a glass of whiskey.
I won’t be able to focus on my work today.
I took out my phone and texted Delilah,
“Are you free today?”
I picked up my blazer from the seat and went out of the office.
I don’t remember how many drinks I had last night but those were needed to soothe the pain inside me.
*The next day*
I got down from my car and head straight to my office.
I was walking towards my office when I saw the lights in the conference room were still on.
That’s weird.
I checked my watch. It was 7 in the morning.
No one comes so early to the office.
I twisted the door knob and walked in.
I walked forward to see the person’s face sitting in the room.
April….
What is she doing here so early in the morning?
She was cuddled into a ball and sleeping peacefully on the desk.
Papers scattered all around the table.
Was she here all night?
The morning sunlight hitting her face gave her a beautiful golden glow.
She looked beautiful…..
For the first time, I properly looked at her face.
She has long brown hair reaching her hip, a slender figure, way short for her age.
I chuckled at my thought.
I actually thought she was a high school kid or something.
But her face… it always held a sad look.
Giving her one final look I slowly walked out of the office.
"Come on in."
“Did you call me sir?”
"Yeah, send Ms. Adams to my office."
“Sir it’s 8 in the morning, she has not arrived yet.”
"She is in the conference room."
“Huh…. oh… yeah okay sir, I’ll send her right away.”
April
“Ms. Adams?”
“Ms. Adams?”
A soft voice called me.
I squinted my eyes. Sunlight hitting in my face.
Where am I?
It didn’t take me much time to realize that I was sleeping in the office.
I quickly shot up and looked at the man calling me.
“Boss want’s to see you in his office.”
My project….
Oh, shoot….
I quickly gathered the paper and examine them.
A feeling of relief washed over my face.
The project was complete.
I picked up all the papers and headed towards his office.
I was still so sleepy I failed to open my eyes properly.
I knocked on the door.
“come in”
He was talking to someone over the phone and nodded telling me to take a seat.
Come on make it quick I wanna sleep….
I looked around the office and tried my best not to fell asleep.
It was a huge office. The table in front of me was filled with papers and files.
A huge bookshelf right behind his chair on the right was filled with so many books.
But the most beautiful sight was in front of me.
The big glass window right behind his chair.
You can literally see the entire city from up here. The morning light falling over the buildings was beautiful.
I was so lost in my thoughts I didn’t notice that he was done attending the call and waiting for me to hand him the project.
"Oh, I am sorry.." I quickly apologize and hand him the project.
He took it from my hand and start flipping the pages.
Come on….. I wanna go home.
At this point, I didn’t care if I made any mistake or something was wrong in there.
I soft yawn escaped my mouth.
“Good work, this will do, you can go home now, it’s your day off.”
Finally.
A small smile came to my face.
"Thank you, Mr. Martínez." I mumbled.
He gave me a quick nod.
Goodnight.
I said rubbing my eyes and walked out of his office.
Dimitri
I heard a knock on the door.
“come in”
April came in stumbling at the door.
Is she still sleeping?
I was talking to one of my clients over the phone and nodded telling her to take a seat.
My gaze was still on her.
She looked around my office and probably tried not to fell asleep.
She looked at the big glass window right behind my chair and her face lit up with happiness.
I knew the view outside my window was good but no one has ever looked at it like her.
She was so lost in her thought that she didn’t notice I was done attending the call and waiting for her to hand me the project.
"Oh, I am sorry.. "she quickly apologized.
For the first time, I noticed she was not shaking or scared of my presence. She behaved normally.
I took it from her hand and start flipping the pages.
I could see impatience on her face.
I soft yawn escaped her mouth.
She’s adorable, a chuckle escape my mouth.
Wait…..what?
What am I thinking?
Am I still drunk?
“Good work, this will do, you can go home now, it’s your day off.”
I was actually impressed with her work. I didn’t think she will be able to complete it.
Did I judge her way too quickly?
A feeling of relief washed over her face.
'Thank you, Mr. Martínez." she mumbled
I gave her a quick nod.
"Goodnight."
She said rubbing her eyes and walked out of my office.
Did she just say goodnight?
A small smile appeared on my face.
