"Everything we do has a way of affecting those around us, so make sure you always have at least 13 reasons why." By Ndalle Joy.

KENDRA'S POV.

"I found my real mom and dad," I repeated.

I looked away from Grace to explain to my mom and dad.

"My mom is dead, died a day after giving birth to me, my aunt gave me away," I faced Grace again before briefly looking away. "My father and elder sister are alive and in New York." I finished.

"That's awesome honey, did you tell Dr. Cheryl?" my mom asked.

"Yes, mom, over the phone. She also did mention that I had improved drastically." I smiled. I had also updated them all on every session with Dr. Cheryl.

"Good, so when do we get to meet them?" my dad asked.

I grinned even wider.

"You already met my sister," I told them.

Both my mom and dad turned to me, confusion painted on their faces, whereas Grace, well, she seemed to be well aware if you asked me.

"Kenna," I told them, "Kenna is my elder sister. Our mom had me two years after Kenna..." I explained every single detail up until the conversation I had with my dad and Kenna.

"Wow!" my dad exclaimed.

"I just need to find out one more thing," I turned fully to Grace, "I just need to know why you gave me away," I whispered.

"Kendra, what are you talking about? Why would Grace give you away?" my mom asked.

"Because mom, she's my aunt. The one who gave me away." I explained.

"what?!"

"Grace?"

Both my mom and dad spoke.

"Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, I can explain." She spoke as the tears fell.

In all honesty, I didn't hate Grace. I only needed to know why she did what she did.

She may not have known it, but her actions destroyed a little part of me.

I spent most of my life attaching myself to others because I feared at some point, they'll put me away because I was unwanted. I didn't have a sense of belonging.

"Kendra," she began in tears, "I never wanted to give you away. I didn't want to, but I had no choice. I was barely twenty-three at the time, no home, no money, all alone on the streets of New York. After they gave me to you, we both didn't have anything to eat, you would've fallen sick or even worst, you would have died. I couldn't let that happen, you were the closest thing I had to family, the closest thing I had to my sister who practically raised me. Both our parents got killed in a road accident, by a drunk driver, and after that, my sister and I were thrown into the system." She sobbed.

"We barely made ends meet. But, she met Mr. Russell, they were so in love they didn't care for the consequences of what they did. When his wife finally found out, she took Kenna away, my sister cried every single day wondering if her daughter was okay, and then, we found out she was pregnant again."

"Whatever money she had saved from Mr. Russell was spent on you. Her pregnancy was critical, she wasn't allowed to work, I tried getting a job, but no one was willing to have me. I lost the little apartment we had after she died, I lived on the streets with a three day old baby in my arms, going to anywhere that would spare me a dollar to buy some milk." She cried.

"People told me to send you into the system when I begged them for money, no one would spare me a single dollar. Then, one day, I met this couple, they were on vacation. When they saw you..."

GRACE'S POV.

"Aww... such a cute baby," the lady said while trying to coo at my niece. "Can I hold her?" she smiled gesturing her arms out.

I scanned the couple again, wanting to know if they did child trafficking or anything like that, but they seemed harmless so I gave the baby to her.

"She's really so cute, how old is she?" the man asked.

I couldn't tell them we had just been out of the hospital a day ago, so I lied.

"Three months old."

"Why is she so tiny?" the lady asked worriedly.

"I-Its Uhm... a c-condition." I stuttered.

"Oh, I am sorry to hear that. I hope this can help." She handed my baby over to me then opened her purse and took out a wad of bills that she gave to me.

I was blown away by her beautiful gesture which she didn't know was going to provide our dinner tonight.

"Do you have children?" I asked the couple.

They smiled at each other before speaking again.

"No, we were actually planning to adopt. I can't have kids." The lady spoke, a little sad.

"I'm sorry, to hear that. I think I can help you with where you can adopt a baby," I told them a plan already formulating in my head.

"Really?" I nodded. "Sure, why not."

"There's an orphanage just a few miles away from St. John's hospital, you'll find a baby there," I explained, wanting to get an affirmation so I could leave immediately.

"Okay then. We would check it out as soon as possible." She beamed.

"I'd recommend you check it tomorrow," I told her.

She looked at me strangely before nodding.

I hurriedly made my way over to the orphanage I had just mentioned and placed my little Amanda at the doorstep. Amanda hadn't given her a name, so I just called her little Amanda.

"I love you so much." I cried, kissed her forehead and cheeks before stepping away but, not before hearing someone faintly call after me, but I ran too fast for them to get me.

If my calculations were correct, my little Amanda would be safe with the couple I saw earlier.

Later that same evening, I stopped by to get a glimpse of little Amanda, but I was so happy to see the couple I spoke with earlier step out with her in their arms.

I was baffled.

Yet, very happy.

Though I didn't understand how fast that procedure had occurred, I only prayed my little Amanda had all the best.

Before I left completely, I saw a lady run after them with a document in hand.

"Mr. and Mrs. Wilson.... Baby... soonest.... Los Angeles..." were the little bits I could pick up.

I sure as hell knew, I had to hear that for a reason.

Little Amanda was my only family left, I was going to see her again.

KENDRA'S POV.

"Wow..." I trailed off.

"Once I finally got stable, I searched for you, starting from the orphanage. They gave me the address they put in on that day, then, putting things together, I eventually found you. You were searching for a nanny, so I went in for it if it meant being close to you..." she explained.

So, she didn't just give me away because she didn't want me, but because she wanted me to have a good life.

"It's okay, I understand you." I hugged her.

"I knew it," my mom screamed.

We all watched her grin before she explained.

"That evening at the orphanage, I told you that was the same baby from earlier, but you refused, Eric, you said I got them mixed up. At the orphanage, they said you were three days old and your mom was dead, I remember we had to stay awhile so they could verify you from the hospital. I can't believe I was right..." she laughed.

We all did.

I wasn't entirely sure if every broken part of myself had been mended, but I was glad for these wonderful people I had to call family.

"Now, I can finally hold Kenna in my arms without coming off as the weird nanny." Grace joked.

"You knew?" my dad asked.

"Yes, Kenna is a very unique name that my sister chose, and she looks just like her. But the Russell name gave it away."

"To think all those who mentioned Kenna and I looking alike at the hospital actually had a point." I laughed.

Yes, my family was weird. We cried and laughed minutes after, yet, I loved them.

Even one month after moving in with them, I still loved them.

I was at a restaurant trying to get some Chinese.

Lately, I hadn't been feeling too well, throwing up here and there, dizzy spells and now, I was craving Chinese.

After I got my order, I walked to the parking lot where I bumped into someone.

He stooped to pick up my food, but not before I had a glimpse of his face.

"Warren freaking King." I smiled.

He looked up at me.

"Kendra? Small world..." he grinned.

"yeah..."

"what are you doing in LA? And where is the boyfriend? Oh and your little crazy friend too?"

He had no idea how he had just hit all the right spots.

"Are you okay?" he asked worriedly.

"I'm fine, and to answer your questions," I teased stressing on the 's', "I live here now, the boyfriend is gone, and my little crazy friend was actually crazy." I laughed at the end.

"We definitely have to catch up." He told me as I headed in the direction of my mom's car.

"Yes we- " but I didn't get to finish that sentence because the next thing I knew I blacked out.

Waking up again, I was at a hospital, with Warren King by my side.

"What happened?" I tried to ask him.

"It's okay. You fainted at the parking lot. The doctor would be here soon."

And just as he finished, the doctor walked in with a smile on his face.

That was a good sign, right?

I smiled.

If only I had known what he was going to say, I would have stayed unconscious.

"So, Doctor, what's wrong with her?" Warren asked worry evident on his face.

The Doctor grinned again.

"Congratulations Mr. King, your girlfriend is seven weeks pregnant."

IT'S A LIE!!!!!!
