Sky: "You've found a 7. 5 centimeter triple-a on your 85-year-old patient. Go." she says as herself and Meredith walk around a park as she pushes Hayes in his stroller

Meredith: "Get an angio, assess his pulmonary and cardiac function, and see if he's a candidate for an endovascular repair."

Sky: "Nope."

Meredith: "Why not?"

Sky: "Because the patient's dead. You killed him. He's dead."

Meredith: "I didn't kill him. I did a stent graft and now he's living without the threat of a rupture, which is not dead."

Sky: "Mm. I think you should buy him flowers, 'cause he dead."

Meredith: "He is not dead. I saved him the complications of an open procedure with a minimally invasive technique" she states, making Sky smirk at her "He's...not dead. Why are we stopping?" she asks when Sky turns to face her

Sky: "Because we're done."

Meredith: "Because I killed him? I told you, I did not kill him."

Sky: "I know, and so do you, even when I try to psych you out of it, which means...you're ready for the boards. The Rivers method is inside you. So I'm gonna go home to my husband because I am sick of pushing this baby around this park...every morning at the butt crack of dawn."

Meredith: "And I..."

Sky: "Uh, you're free, Grey. Go do whatever it is you do." she waves her off as she walks away leaving a smiling Meredith

Bailey: "Excellence is not an act, but a habit, Aristotle." Avery, what is Aristotle doing in our staff meeting, and why are you even in here handing these out?" she asks as the attendings gather in a meeting room

Jackson: "You mean when I could be practicing medicine or studying for my boards? Yeah, I've asked myself that same question."

Arizona: "Mmm. Mmm. This is delicious. When did Hunt bump up the doughnut budget?"

Mark: "As chief, I'm a firm believer that a nice variety of baked goods is the right way to start any meeting." he states making them all look at him confused

Bailey: "As chief?"

Derek: "What are you talking about?"

Callie: "Seriously? Seriously?"

Arizona: "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait."

Sky: "What happened?" they all ask at the same time

Mark: "Okay, calm down, everyone. Dr. Hunt and Dr. Yang are down with the flu. I'll be acting chief in Dr. Hunt's absence. Could be a day. Could be a week. What do we got for today?"

Sky: "Let me get this straight. Dr. Hunt asked you to fill in as chief...you, Mark Sloan, by name?" she gives him a disbelieving look

Mark: "Yes, he did. Any other questions?" he shrugs at all of them

Callie: "I like the part about "excellence is not an act but a habit." she chuckles as they walk out the meeting room

Teddy: "Hey! So I got us a reservation at Jane's on Market. It's the one with the little twinkly lights all around it. Have you been there yet? It's new."

Callie: "We haven't."

Teddy: "It's beautiful and kind of romantic, and I realize that ladies night is different than date night, but I have been in the lab for the last two weeks, and smelling like formaldehyde, and I just...I need to be someplace beautiful."

Callie: "Yeah, of course."

Teddy: "Oh, great. Good. I'm excited. So excited. This is gonna be great. Am...am I talking really fast?"

Callie: "Not...not in a weird way." she shakes her head as Arizona looks at them in confusion

Teddy: "I'm sorry. I'm...I'm just wired. The house is so quiet when it's empty, you know? I've been leaning really hard on the coffee. But anyway, okay. So I'll see you guys tonight. Ladies night. Yay!" she cheers before walking away

Arizona: "I have no idea what just happened."

Callie: "I told her last week that, uh, we'd do a ladies night."

Arizona: "Mm. Like at a girl bar? Do we need to have a talk about boundaries?"

Callie: "No, no, not a "ladies night" ladies night. Like a just a night out for Teddy."

Arizona: "Okay, so do we have another lady, or is it just two lesbian moms and a widow at Seattle's most romantic restaurant?"

Callie: "Ugh. Ooh! Bailey."

Arizona: "Really, that's your go to?"

Bailey: "What?"

Arizona: "Ooh Sky!" she stops her from walking past them and pulls her over to them

Callie: "So, um, Teddy...poor, sad, widowed Teddy...wants to have a girls night."

Arizona: "Uh, ladies."

Callie: "Ladies night."

Bailey: "Absolutely not."

Callie: "Well, no, it's...it's her first night out. It's a big step. She needs us."

Bailey: "Well, she has you, the two of you. That's about as much happy as any person can bear."

Sky: "And I'm going to be busy tonight." she shrugs

Arizona: "She made a reservation at a romantic restaurant. I mean, would you want to be a third-wheel widow at a restaurant with us and a bunch of twinkly lights?"

Callie: "And sex with Mark can wait a few hours

Bailey: "You're buying."

Callie: "Well, I figured everyone could pitch in for our dear friend, the widow."

Arizona: "Okay, fine. We're buying." she sighs

Bailey: "See you tonight."

Callie: "My God." she mutters as Bailey walks away and they turn to face Sky who sighs

Sky: "Fine I'll be there."

Arizona: "Great." she smiles and Sky gives a forced smile before walking off

April: "Oh. Where have you been? We're halfway through the new batch of flash cards."

Jackson: "Yeah, hunt and Yang are out sick today, so Sloan's the chief, and I am the chief's bitch. Lucky me."

Alex: "No distractions. Kepner, hit me again."

April: "Okay, a-a woman with dysuria, incomplete voiding, and a palpable suburethral mass."

Alex: "Urethral carcinoma. Damn it. I had one of those last year. Um, uh, we did, uh, radiation and surgical excision. No! Would it be, uh, chemo?"

Jackson: "An ectopic ureter, or it could be. I mean, I scrubbed in on one of those, but I don't remember the technique the urologist used. Damn it."

Meredith: "Sounds like urethral diverticulum. And if it's proximal, I would do a partial ablation because it's much less likely to result in a fistula."

Alex: "You don't even need to know advanced urology for the boards."

Meredith: "But I do, because the Rivers method is in me." she gives a smug smile

April: "Ugh!" she groans

Alex: "Total crap. You get to study with Rivers while the rest of us get to sink like rocks. Why can't I be Shepherd's wife. Being his wife gives you perks with him being best friends with Sky. I hope you're happy when you're alone in the O.R. And the rest of us are working the free clinic at the mall."

Jackson: "My whole brain is crammed with so many hypotheticals, I can't even remember what real cases I was actually there for. I am screwed."

Alex: "I'll tell you who's screwed...Yang. The boards are around the corner, no one's seen her study, she's out sick. She's gonna get creamed."

Meredith: "Yang is fine."

April: "You can't just pass the boards on raw talent, okay? It is an artificial environment, which requires massive amounts-"

Meredith: "Cristina is fine. Okay?"

Jackson: "Chief."

Mark: "See, from 1:00 to 2:00, you have "lunch with the chief." I told you to call it "beef with the chief." It's got a ring to it. You got a beef, come meet with the chief."

Jackson: "I didn't realize you were serious about that."

Mark: "You need to let people get the little things off their chests before they become big things. I'm serious about this chief thing, Avery. It's my shot. I want to do it right. "Beef with the chief," put it in the schedule tomorrow."

Mark: "Dr. Shepherd, Dr. Warren. Here. Mr. Cooper. How are you feeling?" he greets them when the pair comes into a room

Jason: "Like I would kill my own mother for a burger and a shake."

Jackson: "Jason Cooper, 29-year-old male with advanced juvenile arthritis, causing fusion of the jaw and extensive fusion of the c-2, c-3, and c-4 vertebrae."

Woman: "He's been on a feeding tube for the past eight months. No solid food at all."

Mark: "Well, don't worry, Mr. Cooper. After we break your jaw and put in those sweet titanium hinges I made for you, you'll be eating burgers again real soon."

Derek: "Could we have a word with you outside, please?"

Mark: "Of course." they walk out the room

Derek: "Ben and I don't think we should do the surgery today."

Mark: "Why not?"

Derek: "With his cervical fusion, lying him down on an operating table is gonna put pressure on the base of his spine."

Ben: "Not to mention that orotracheal intubation is impossible on this guy. I'll do nasotracheal, but if there's any compromise to the tube while he's under and he's got no mobility...let's just say, I can't guarantee anything."

Mark: "Well, what's your recommendation?"

Derek: "Well, we postpone the surgery until other plans can be made."

Mark: "And, Dr. Avery, what would support performing the surgery as soon as possible?"

Jackson: "The, uh, patient has a major abscess in the back of his mouth."

Mark: "Which could lead to sepsis or endocarditis. Infection's a killer, which is why this can't wait. So let's figure out a way to get Mr. Cooper into surgery on schedule."

Derek: "Well, frankly, I don't know what you think I can do for him 3:00 this afternoon."

Mark: "Rise."

Derek: "Excuse me?"

Mark: "You have it in you. Lost causes, right? Making the impossible possible? Rise to the challenge, Shepherd. I believe in you. Rise." he states making Derek and Ben give each other amused looks

Derek Oh.

Jackson All right, guys." he pats Ben on the shoulder before following behind Mark

Ben: "So you take orders from Sloan now?" he looks at Derek who chuckles while shaking his head

Sky: "So...chief of surgery, huh?" she asks coming into the room where Mark is at and straddles his lap on a chair

Mark: "Well what can I say. Hunt needed somebody to fill in and I was more than happy to step up."

Sky: "Uh huh. Oh we're gonna have to postpone our plans tonight."

Mark: "We do?"

Sky: "Yeah. I have to go to some girls night that Callie and Arizona put together for Teddy."

Mark: "Huh."

Sky: "But that doesn't mean we can't start out plans right now." she whispers before she starts kissing his neck

Mark: "Uh-oh. Ooh, okay. Don't get me wrong, I love this. Oh, I like that, too" he breathes making Sky chuckle at him as she continues to kiss him

Sky: "You want me to stop?"

Mark: "I didn't say you should stop" she chuckles more and kisses his lips when his
pager goes off "Oh I gotta go. Got a meeting with Webber and Bailey. But if you schedule beef with the chief we can continue this later." he says making her look at him confused with raised eyebrows

Sky: "What?"

Mark: "Beef with the chief. Got a ring to it right?" he smiles as he turns the chair so he can sit her on the table

Sky: "O-okay?" she looks at him weirdly and he gives her a kiss before walking out the room. She watches him walk out making her give a breathy chuckle

Bailey: "Hey, I got the donor scans."

Richard: "Oh, great. Let's see what you got. Bowel looks good, small intestines, large intestines, and that's a good-looking pancreas."

Meredith: "Look at that on the liver right there."

Bailey: "Looks like a tumor."

Mark: "Well, that makes him an unsuitable organ donor."

Richard: "Not necessarily. Could be a benign adenoma. My patient's been in for two other transplants, and they both fell through. He's not gonna live much longer without a new liver."

Bailey: "We could resect it. It's a little unconventional to operate on a donor, but there's no reason why it wouldn't work."

Richard: "That's a great idea, Bailey."

Mark: "Great idea? You want to put compromised organs into a transplant recipient and give your guy cancer on top of everything else?"

Richard: "I think we owe it to my guy to at least excise the tumor and test it."

Mark: "I don't agree."

Bailey: "Dr. Sloan, are you arguing surgical protocol with Dr. Webber?"

Mark: "Dr. Bailey...are you arguing with the decision of the chief of surgery? Call U.N.O.S. Tell them this donor's unsuitable. Put Mr. Sheridan back on the list."

Mark: "When you're the chief, you gotta make the hard decisions. Webber knows that. It comes with the job. Who's our first appointment, Avery?"

Jackson: "No one on the schedule, chief."

Mark: "That's why you shoulda called it "beef with the chief." People would've shown up for that" he looks around the room before turning to look back at Jackson "You got a beef?"

Jackson: "Actually, I would really love to go study for my boards."

Mark: "No." he shakes his head making Jackson sigh

Derek: "I know, I don't have an appointment, but do you have a moment to talk about Jason Cooper's jaw reconstruction?"

Jackson: "That's fine. He's wide open. Have a seat. There you go." he quickly grabs his things and hurries out the room

Derek: "I think I can carve out of foam a cradle that holds the patient's head and neck during surgery, reducing the chance of respiratory complication."

Mark: "That's a good idea. But you can do better."

Derek: "Excuse me?"

Mark: "Well, foam's fine if nothing goes wrong, but it won't be flexible enough if we have to adjust him mid-surgery. It's a good idea, but-"

Derek: "Are you aware of what-"

Mark: "I'm aware that that surgery is taking place at 3:00, and Jason Cooper's airway needs to be secured. So rise, Shepherd. Rise."

Bailey: "Hey, um, I can't do ladies night. Sorry." she comes into the room where Callie, Arizona, and Sky are eating lunch

Callie: "Mm. What?"

Arizona: "But we need you."

Sky: "I'm only going because of you."

Bailey: "Well, um, I can't come because, well, Ben and I are...taking dance lessons tonight..." she says but more of a question

Sky: "Salsa. You and Ben." she gives her a skeptic look

Bailey: "Yeah."

Sky: "And salsa?"

Callie: "No, you just want to go home and get laid."

Bailey: "Hey, we have a long-standing salsa appointment tonight, and...sorry. You're on your own." she walks out the room

Callie: "Right."

Arizona: "I bet it's gonna be long."

Sky: "Mm-hmm."

Callie: "Real long."

Sky: "So she gets to salsa with her boyfriend but I can't salsa with my newly husband?"

Callie: "It's not like you guys haven't been married before."

Sky: "Yeah but the salsa's way better now than it was before." she points at them with her a fork with a smile of her face

Arizona: "Hey. I got your page. What's up?" she comes over to where Mark is standing at an OR board

Mark: "Slight change of plans. You're taking the kids tonight."

Arizona: "Oh, yeah. We can't. No, we got a ladies night with Altman."

Mark: "You're taking Altman to a chick bar?" he smirks at her

Arizona: "It can mean other things. It's...it's your night with the kids."

Mark: "I don't know how late I'm gonna have to be here tonight."

Arizona: "Oh, seriously?"

Mark: "Seriously. I have chief stuff to do. And you still owe me for Valentine's day" he calls out as she walks away and April walks past him "Kepner. Remind me...how long's it take to do an appy?"

April: "Well, if you, uh, perf the bowel, then...then it takes, uh, uh, it could take hours. Or, uh, if...if the patient hemorrhages, or if the patient-"

Mark: "This isn't your boards, Kepner. How long does it take to do an appy...in the real world?"

April: "45 minutes to an hour and 15, tops."

Mark: "Then why do Bailey and Grey have eight hours blocked in O.R. two?"

April: "M-maybe it's a really complicated appy."

Mark: "Kepner. Kepner."

April: "Dr. Webber was the chief for a really, really long time."

Mark: "Do not touch that patient!" she exclaims when he comes into the OR

Bailey: "Oh, Dr. Sloan, if...if you would just let us do our jobs-"

Mark: "I'm doing my job, Dr. Bailey. And today my job is to be the chief of surgery, and as the chief of surgery, I told you not to perform this procedure. So do not touch him. Take him back to his room. Put him back on the transplant list."

Mark: "Dr. Webber."

Richard: "Chief Sloan."

Mark: "Was I not clear this morning?"

Richard: "You mean this? This is a benign adenoma. I've been a general surgeon for almost 30 years. I know a benign adenoma when I see one. I'd stake my career on it."

Mark: "If there's a tumor in the donor organs, then they've been compromised. You know this. I didn't make those rules."

Richard: "You're a good doctor, and you may one day make a great chief of surgery. But you're a plastic surgeon, chief Sloan. You're a perfectionist. And you want everything by the rules so it'll end up pretty. Well, I don't need pretty. And I don't need perfect. What I need is for this to work. And what's gonna make it work is for me to take out that tumor and put these healthy organs inside my very sick patient. It won't be pretty, but it will work, and it will keep my patient alive. Stand down, chief Sloan. Stand down" he states and Mark nods before walking out the room "A little more suction right here."

Arizona: "Oh, Mark can't take the kids tonight...or won't."

Callie: "Well, he can't. What are we gonna do?"

Arizona: "Well, we could have ladies night at our place."

Callie: "Um, just the three of us...at home...with Teddy? And Sky? And Sofia and Hayes?"

Arizona: "Oh, I hate ladies night."

Callie: "Well, it could be great if we could ditch Teddy."

Arizona: "Aw, that's so, so horrible."

Callie: "Come on. We can do some salsa dancin'."

Arizona: "Mm. But do you think Teddy would understand?"

Callie: "Yeah, we'll reschedule. It's not like we're canceling."

Arizona: "Oh, are we bad people? We're bad ladies."

Callie: "Maybe. Maybe very bad." she chuckles walking away

Arizona: "Oh hey. Ladies night is cancelled."

Sky: "Oh thank God" she breathes before realizing what she said "I-I mean uh...what happened?"

Arizona: "Bailey's not coming and Mark can't watch the kids tonight so..."

Sky: "Oh okay." she nods before walking off

Derek: "So the beanbag will stabilize Mr. Cooper's cervical spine. And it's flexible enough that Dr. Warren can intubate and reposition if he needs to. Once he intubates, I will leave the surgery to you."

Mark: "A beanbag?"

Derek: "Well, inspiration can come from anywhere. In this case...day care."

Mark: "You see that? I plant the seed of innovation, I nurture it, and voila...you rose. Am I a fantastic leader or what?" he smiles before going to scrub in

Ben: "All hail the chief. When's Hunt coming back?"

Derek: "Not soon enough."

Arizona: "Hey." she nudges Teddy who's leaning against a nurses desk with her eyes closed

Teddy: "Hey."

Arizona: "Ooh. You okay?"

Teddy: "Yeah, yeah, I'm good. I just...I just need some more coffee, I think."

Arizona: "Oh, well, listen, hey, if you're too tired, you know, we don't have to go out tonight."

Teddy: "You don't want to go out?"

Arizona: "No, no, no, no. I mean, I didn't say that I don't...wanna..."

Teddy: "Oh, my God. When am I gonna stop freaking people out? I-I-I don't mean to be the big, sad widow and I don't mean to bring the room down. I-I don't want to ruin other people's fun-"

Arizona: "Hey, Teddy, I'm just...I-I thought you were tired. So we're super excited about ladies night out. It's gonna be fun."

Teddy: "Yeah?"

Arizona: "Yeah."

Teddy: "Okay."

Arizona: "Yay."

Teddy: "Yay."

Arizona: "We are bad, selfish people" she comes into the room where the other three women are in "A woman is counting on us. She is leaning on us when she is feeling vulnerable and alone, and we are talking about dancing and getting it on and not even being halfway decent friends to her in her time of need."

Bailey: "Uh, you were gonna ditch her so you could get it on?"

Callie: "Where do you think we got the idea?"

Bailey: "I don't know what you're talking about. Anyway, look, I only canceled because I knew the two of you would be there. Now what's your excuse?"

Sky: "I have a kid to watch." she shrugs

Callie: "I wanted to salsa." she mutters

Arizona: "No, nobody gets salsa. We get ladies night with Teddy. And you will be there and you will be there and you will be there."

Bailey: "Well, I have-"

Arizona: "No excuses."

Sky: "But-"

Arizona: "No excuses."

Callie: "Come o-"

Arizona: "No excuses." she snaps before walking out the room

Callie: "Oh, I got those ginger cookies for dessert."

Bailey: "Oh. Oh, no, no, no, no dessert. No, we're having a glass of wine, plate of food, then everybody's on their way. School night."

Callie: "Ooh." she says when the doorbell rings

Arizona: "What'd you tell Ben, you'd be outta here in like an hour?"

Bailey: "45 minutes."

Teddy: "I'm late. I'm sorry. I-I just...I couldn't figure out whether we wanted red or White or Rose. And then I realized, why choose? I mean, we've got the whole night."

Sky: "That we do." she says with fake happiness

Teddy: "And movies."Dirty Dancing" and "Beaches."

All: "Oh!"

Bailey: "Movies." she groans quietly when herself, Sky, Arizona, and Callie turn to face the counter

Callie: "Alright I say we start with Dirty Dancing. Thank you. And then we up the ante with beaches and then uh...cry it out over the Rose. Oh." they go over to the couch to see Teddy asleep

Arizona: "Mmh."

Sky: "Look at her."

Arizona: "She says she hasn't been sleeping lately. Doesn't like the empty house."

Bailey: "Must be exhausting. Poor thing" they look at Teddy for a moment "Gotta go. See ya." she hands the bowl of popcorn to Arizona

Sky: "Oh yeah. Salsa studio still open?" she calls out making the other two women chuckle "Well if we're not doing girls night then I'm gonna go get some sleep."

Callie: "What no salsa with Mark tonight?"

Sky: "Mark is still at the hospital" she goes to get Hayes out of Sofia's room "See you guys later." she whispers holding his sleeping body to her chest as they wave and she walks out the apartment

Derek: "Hunt. You feeling better?" he asks when he arrives at the roof to see Owen hitting some golf balls

Owen: "What?"

Derek: "The flu."

Owen: "Oh. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Fine."

Derek: "You mind if I join you?"

Owen: "Oh. Oh, yeah. Not at all."

Derek: "You know, Sloan turned out to be a good chief."

Owen: "Sloan? I-I asked for you or Webber if you wouldn't do it. Sloan was chief? Mark Sloan?" he asks making Derek turn to face him in surprise

Derek: "Yeah. He wasn't bad. Don't let him know I said that, though."

Sky is sleeping in her bed when she feels it dip slightly and kiss is put on her head making her wake up a little

Sky: "Hey." she rasps

Mark: "Hey." he smiles

Sky: "How was your day?"

Mark: "I made a pretty good chief." he nodded his head and Sky smiles at him before curling up into his chest

Author's note: I feel like if Mark was still on the show he would have ended up being chief eventually and would have been good.
