"what the funk," y/n groaned, shoving her laptop into her backpack, "I hate myself."
Her stomach was churning with disappointment, in total disbelief that she ever had hope for something more. What was she expecting him to say?
Go ahead and tell your friends that we've been flirting for over two weeks.
It all seemed to blatantly ridiculous now, because no matter what he said to her, he would always be that big celebrity.
"woah woah woah," Maggie flustered, "what the hell's going on?"
She had just walked back into her dorm, and saw y/n furiously packing her things. Her hair was sloppily thrown into a ponytail and her wrinkled MIT t-shirt was disheveled, her face red with embarrassment.
"I'm going back to my apartment,"y/n sighed, "I need to take a day to figure my life out."
"That's not an explanation," Maggie said, her keys swinging around her finger, "what happened?"
"Look, Maggie," the girl said, stopping to stare, "it's not a big deal. I'm just out of sorts."
"I've known you for 7 years, you never get out of sorts."
"Well theres a first time for everything, isn't there?"
"Fine," her friend agreed, "I'll give you your space. but I'm picking you up Monday morning for class."
"Mags, you don't have to-"
"It's the least I can do, I can tell things aren't exactly going well for you."
"right," y/n admitted, slinging her backpack over her shoulder, "thank you."
"of course."
"love you, maggie," the girl said, giving her friend a hug, before disappearing out the door.
From an outsider's point of view, y/n may have looked like she was overacting. All Tom said, was that he'd need to talk to his publicist.
But if you think about it, just really think about it, wouldn't that hurt someone? No matter if they were friends or not, imagine being told that your relationship was so unsure, that a publicist would need to decide if it was okay for that relationship to even exist.
And that's why y/n had that pit in her stomach. She wasn't mad at Tom, she understood they both led very different lives, but she was disappointed that she had gotten so attached.
