safe

safe. that's what he promised. he promised that he would keep me safe. safe from them. safe from the bad people. so, tell me why i'm running down a long alleyway trying to outrun them. he broke his word when he promised he wouldn't. "i'll be back soon" he said. that was the first time that he left me alone. alone where they could find me.
i felt lost. like he didn't care about me anymore. like he wanted me to get caught. i wouldn't blame him.
this all started last year. he found me pacing down some corridors in his flat building. he noticed this and instantly asked what was wrong.
"i-i can't tell you here" i said frantically looking around. he titled his head in confusion and he invited me in.
"ok, i don't know who's listen but you have got to believe me. can you do that?"
he nodded his head and he sat down whilst i remained standing.
"ok so i may have done something bad and people are kinda after me" i blurted out.
he looked at me in shock and i replied.
"it's nothing too bad, i haven't killed anyone i promise" i laugh.
he sighed in relief.
"i cant tell you everything yet, but please can you help me" i asked hopefully.
"you can stay here, i'll keep you safe. i promise."
"thank you" i smiled at him.
"my name is y/n by the way, what's yours?" i asked.
"sam" he smiled back at me.
that promise lasted almost exactly a year, and here i am running as fast as my little legs can take me down a alleyway which seems to be getting smaller. every time i look behind me nobody is there, but i can feel them there. i always could. but i know they never could have saw me. they couldn't get me with someone protecting me. i guess promises don't exist. there's no such thing.
i turned a corner to see a completely bare street . as soon as i looked at it, a light post suddenly turned on. i know you shouldn't normally follow things like this, but me being me started to walk towards it. the whole road turned pitch black and i couldn't see a thing. i started to hear whispers and little lurkers all around me which made me lose my balance and fall to the cold concrete floor.
i slowly started to wake up and my eyes started to flutter in confusion as i was face to face with someone with a large smirk on their face. as soon i realised who it was, i was in shock. i was face to face with that same person who promised me my life.
"hello y/n" he creepily smiled at me.
"s-sam?".
