KUROO'S POV
Thursday's practice was just as usual, Lev had his ass handed to him, Kenma slacked off every chance he could, Yaku was yelling at the first years, and Yamamoto was being loud.
But I found my mind wandering, towards a certain captain. It's nothing new because I've had a crush on her since we were first years, but I've never found a way to befriend her, up until now.
It was Monday evening. (Flashback)
Practice had just ended and I decided to pass by the girls' gym court. I heard balls being received and smashed, a sound that I had grown to love over the years.
Until I heard her name,
"TAI SENPAI!"
I immediately perked up, was it her?
"Taiji-san?" My mind wandered,
The sound of the ball being set and smashed followed, a roar of happy shouts were heard.
"Nice kill, Senpai!" A voice called out,
"Thanks!"
That was her voice,
Taiji's voice
I peeked into the gym through the window. The girls were crowding around a certain figure, her.
She was dressed in a pair of black shorts and a red shirt, her long hair tied up into a ponytail, sweat was dripping from her neck.
And at that moment,
She looked perfect.
She was smiling as her teammates were smacking her shoulders. Judging by the way they stood, they were having a 5v5. She obviously had just won the set for the team, as the team members were jumping around.
"Alright girls, that concludes the mixed 5v5 for today!" Taiji called out as the team members cooled down, "We'll have a seniors vs juniors 5v5 on Thursday!"
"She's a captain?!" I was surprised,
"Don't hope that we'll go easy on you!" Taiji reminded her juniors.
Her teammates laughed at her statement and they started clearing the gym.
I quickly walked away from the gym and headed to the gate, where Kenma was waiting.
3rd person POV
"Kuroo, stop smiling like that," Kenma stated plainly, "You look like that cat from Alice in the Wonderland"
Kuroo paid no attention to what Kenma mentioned, "I just found a way to befriend Taiji-san,"
This caught Kenma's attention, "The one you had a crush on since you were a—"
"Yes," Kuroo stated, slapping a hand over poor Kenma's mouth, "But you can't just say it out like that!"
Kenma pushed Kuroo's hand away from his face, "Why?"
Kuroo's cheeks were dusted pink, "Because someone might hear you and it's embarrassing!"
Kenma rolled his eyes at his friend, he had never seen Kuroo act this way before. Kuroo had always been a calm and collected person, but when it came to things about her, the tall bedhead was all over the place.
The two boys slowly made their way to the train station, Kenma was busy playing a game while Kuroo was staring at the sunset sky, thinking about Taiji.
And unknown to them, a certain captain had stepped into the same train station.
The girl caught Kuroo's eye, and once Kuroo recognized the girl, his jaw nearly dropped once again.
The girl was wearing a white jacket that had the words "NEKOMA GIRL'S VOLLEYBALL CLUB" embroidered in red, the girl had changed back into her uniform and untied her hair from the ponytail that she had during practice. Her gym bag was swung over her shoulder
The way the sun highlighted her eyes pulled on Kuroo's heartstrings, making it beat faster. Kenma noticed the girl and smirked at this tall friend, He knew that Kuroo was soon to be head over heels for that captain.
(End of flashback)
Kai smacked Kuroo's shoulder, bringing Kuroo back to reality.
"Are you okay Kuroo?" Kai asked, despite knowing very well about what he was thinking about, "You seem out of your head."
"Yea, I'm fine" Kuroo assured, "Just thinking about something..."
Kai smirked at the statement, He knew that Kuroo was thinking of the pretty captain.
Kuroo suddenly thought of what Taiji said on Monday, "It's Thursday today right?"
"Yea, why?"
Kuroo smiled as he looked at the clock, "Oh, It's nothing then"
Unknown to Kuroo, everyone on the team knew about his crush, they gave each other a knowing smile as they plotted to help their starstruck captain.
"Is this about a certain senpai of mine?" Shibayama piped up, obviously teasing.
Shibayama had asked the question everyone wanted to hear about. They all looked at their captain expectantly, despite already knowing the answer.
"Maybe?"
The team burst into laughter and they started teasing the poor captain
"I'll be walking with Yamamoto today," Kenma stated, "Have fun,"
The pudding head emphasized the words "have fun", which made the captain smack the boy in an attempt to stop the teasing.
"Don't get into any trouble, captain!" Yamamoto added, infuriating the captain even more while making the others laugh harder.
The boys cleaned up and headed for the school gate, their practice had ended earlier than usual and they were quite happy to head home earlier.
Kuroo made his way to the girls' gym court once again, this time hoping to see the captain in action.
Going back to the original spot, he peeked through the same window, and he watched as the players moved in coordination.
Kuroo was awestruck, the seniors' team was moving in a way that he had seen in very few teams, the way they ran around without knocking into each other, the follow-ups were quick and swift, picking up any spikes, the blockers reading the setter and blocking anything that came their way.
And then he saw what he was hoping to see,
Her spikes
The setter that was on the opposite team the other day, Yuko, stood in position as the ball was received.
"Tai!" She called out,
The captain perked up as she heard her name, she started running towards the net.
And even with three blockers in her way, she didn't seem nervous. She licked her lips in anticipation and she jumped as the ball approached her position.
It seemed the world became silent as her hand smashed the ball, going right through the spikers and hitting the floor. The loud "WHAM" filled the court as they jumped up in celebration.
Tai laughed at the way her fellow third years jeered at the younger members, whereas the younger members were trying to apprehend what just happened.
The captain clapped her hands to catch the attention of her members. "Alright ladies you know the drill, losers clean up the court and winners put away the balls!"
Kuroo smiled at the way the captain tried to cheer up her first years. She even helped them put away the brooms.
Most of the girls that came out first were shocked that the tall bedhead was waiting outside. The loud second year, Akari, noticed him and immediately knew who the rooster head was waiting for.
"TAI SENPAI, YOUR BOYFRIEND IS WAITING FOR YOU!"
"My boyfriend?" Tai called out, "Akari I don't have a boy—"
When she stood at the door she didn't notice the tall bedhead, she questioned Akari by what she meant.
Not paying attention to her senpai, Akari noticed the look in Kuroo's eyes as he stared at her captain.
The way his cat-like eyes melted into a soft stare as he studied her features, the look on his face told Akari his whole story,
Kuroo had fallen for her. Hard.
Akari pointed at Kuroo as her senpai continued to question her. Both Kuroo and Tai were shocked as they stared at each other.
"Hey," Kuroo mumbled out awkwardly as he realized he was staring
Tai's face filled with horror as she realized that Kuroo had been standing there the entire time
"K-Kuroo?" She stammered, "Wh- what are you doing here?"
Akari watched as the two 3rd years awkwardly explained themselves and she came up with one thought,
That she should get the two captains to date.
