Shreyash was mindlessly surfing through YouTube when someone banged on his door with enough intensity to wake up the whole world. And Shreyash couldn't help but wonder what was on fire??
Groaning, He got up from his comfy position on the bed and dragged himself to the door. Hoping, it wasn't Harry Bhaiya with some insane idea or God forbid Yuzi Bhaiya with even crazier idea.
Opening the door, Shreyash stood in shocked silence for a few seconds. It wasn't Harry or Yuzi though watching the person in front of him. He silently thought he would have preferred Yuzi or Harry bhaiya over a Subh with starstruck gaze.
"Umm...what happened Subh?" He couldn't help but ask the younger boy kindly though a little apprehensively.
The wide grin and eyes reflecting stars were actually freaking him out a little.
"Virat bhai called us in his room." A grinning Subh informed him almost buzzing with excitement. And Shreyash couldn't help but frown. He had done many things for Virat Bhaiya but he didn't even call him.
"Oh!! But he didn't call me?" Shreyash asked Subh confused he was on his phone since morning and not once did he receive any call from Virat Bhai.
"I don't know he asked me to call you, hurry up now we shouldn't make him wait." The overexcited Subh said impatiently and Shreyash could only shrug as he locked his room.
And followed after an over-excited Subh to Virat bhai's room. Did he ever mention that Subh was the die-hard Viratian of their group? The guy stans Virat Bhai and adored him to the ends of the world.
Feeling a little bit jittery and more than a little bit afraid behind the reason for this sudden summon to the Captain's room. He didn't know what to expect there.
Because they hadn't been to Virat bhai's room ever like it was a prohibited area. An area where they never dared to trespass like ever.
It was Rohit bhaiya's room they hanged out most of the time and this sudden summon to Virat Bhaiya's room was making him feel nervous.
Reaching Virat Bhai's room both of them looked at each other and then shrugging with an expression "what worst can we face inside?". They knocked on the door.
"Come in" Virat bhai called from inside and stepping in they got the shock of their life. Virat Bhai was sitting on the bed while rotating a knife in his hand and Jassi's head was resting on Virat bhai's lap. He was looking at the knife.
Shreyash looked at Subh with an expression demanding "Should we run away?" but before he could get an answer or even sneak away from the room. Virat had noticed them.
"Oh, Shreya and Subhi boy... come inside why are you standing on the door, make yourself comfortable." Virat Bhai spoke casually waving the knife in the general direction of the room.
Shreyash glared at Virat bhai for again calling him Shreya while Subh beamed at being called Subhi boy both forgetting the waving knife for a moment.
"Ab repeat kru kya firse, andar aa jao" Virat ordered them rolling his eyes
Gulping, nervously looking at each other.They entered and took a seat at a sofa as far as possible from Virat Bhaiya though Subh wanted to take a seat closer to Virat Bhaiya, Shreyash was fine at this distant.
"Virat bhaiya knife k sath kya kr rhe hai??" Subh whispered to Shreyash curiously still looking at Virat bhaiya with an awestruck look. Shreyash really didn't know what Virat bhaiya was doing with a knife and why was he waving it so carelessly? But he didn't have to answer to Subh as Virat bhai brought the apple in his other hand to their attention and started cutting the apple in slices.
"Oh! he is cutting apple" Subh spoke in such a tone that made Shreyash think that Virat bhai wasn't cutting apple but was doing something marvellous and he couldn't help but shake his head.
Subh and his obsession with Virat bhai. Shreyash really doesn't know what Subh finds so endearing in Virat Bhai? He is kind of alright but Shreyash really didn't get to know Virat bhai much and then Virat bhai started calling him with that obnoxious nickname "Shreya" like really.
But in all his days spent with the Indian team. He never had seen Virat bhai's tender side. Virat bhai always looked like that overexcited kid, riling others, motivating others, teasing others and the serious older brother who scolded you with looks and let his emotions all the way out. Shreyash kind of didn't like the captain's like Virat bhai who went all out with their emotions on the field. So, to say he was shocked to see Virat Bhai acting so tender, gentle and like a mother hen with Jassi was an obvious fact. And the fact that Subh was going all awww beside him wasn't helping things.
"Jassi baccha wake up and eat, kiddo." the way Virat bhai was coaxing Jassi bhai so tenderly was shocking, to say the least. Virat bhai and this coaxing wasn't something Shreyash ever imagined.
"Umph....bhai, app khila do na (feed me)" Jassi demanded from his Virat bhai like a little kid knowing Virat won't deny his wish as he continued lying using Virat's lap as a pillow.
Both Shreyash and Subh were surprised by Jassi's demand. They couldn't even in their wildest dreams, dream about demanding Virat Bhai to feed them. Let alone lie in his lap like it was the most common thing in the whole world.
Subh was looking at the scene in front of him with a little envious gaze as Virat bhai shook his head with a fond expression and fed Jassi bhai apple and Shreyash continued looking at the scene with open mouth. When Harry bhaiya, Jaddu bhaiya, Yuzi bhaiya and Kulya bragged in the room without even knocking.
Jadu bhai without any qualms plopped on the bed followed by Harry bhaiya who looked like he wanted to throw Jassi out of Virat bhaiya's lap. Yuzi Bhaiya and kulya took their seats on the bed too, nudging and disturbing the others who were already on the bed. The final result was that Jassi had to sit but he still kept his head on Virat bhai's shoulder glaring sleepily at Harry who was grinning happily at his direction.
"Humein toh kbhi itne pyaar se ni khilaya ( you never fed us this lovingly)" Jadu taunted Virat watching him still feed Jassi with his own hand.
"Pyaar se mujhe toh aise bhi nhi khilaya kbhi ( lovingly, he didn't feed me even once at all)" Harry complained looking at Virat bhai with a pouty look and Shreyash couldn't quite believe his eyes.
"Not even me," Yuzi pipped in joining the tunes of the other two and Virat couldn't help but roll his eyes at these three's antics. He didn't even want to think about the chaos these three were about to create with their mili bhagat. Dragging his poor innocent Kulya in their sinister plans.
"Well, Jassi is a fast bowler so..." Virat left his answer hanging as the other three made a face to argue with his logic. But Kulya didn't give them any chance.
"I want to eat an apple too, Virat bhaiya," Kulya asked Virat bhaiya looking at the last piece of apple in his hand with a hungry expression.
And Virat fed Kulya with his hand without any second thoughts making the other three gape at his direction and Jassi grin knowingly.
"That's so unfair" Harry declared with a wounded expression after few minutes of extreme silence.
"And mean..." Yuzi added looking at the empty plate in Virat's hand. He wanted to eat an apple too.
"And not to mention biased. I came before kulya in your life, Chiku and still, you betrayed me like this." Jadu said giving Virat an ultimate "You betrayed me" look.
"I know, I've been bearing you since the U-19 days." Virat deadpanned. Jadu spluttered.
Jassi tried to hide his grin even Kulya did the same though after making sure that Jadu bhai wasn't really offended while Yuzi and Harry frowned and moaned to themselves.
And Bhuvi, Shami and Rishab found the three in this condition, when they also entered the room without knocking, surprising Shreyash and Subh as they were the only ones till now who entered the room after knocking.
"What did Harry do now?" Bhuvi asked entering the room and dragging a recliner near the bed to settle on it with Shami and Rishab who looked amused at the drama unfolding before them.
"Why do you think I did anything, to begin with?" Harry demanded back from Bhuvi making an annoyed face. Firstly he didn't get an apple and now Bhuvi was blaming him for misconduct here.
"Because you always do" Bhuvi announced with a straight face. Harry huffed at the great injustice done with him. Jadu and Yuzi snickered at Harry. Shreyash and Subh looked at this show with wonder-filled eyes.
And Virat patted Jassi's head in an "It's fine" manner while silently starting to slice the remaining apples, pears and Guava kept in the fruit basket next to him.
"Sambhal kr Virat bhaiya" warned Kuliya afraid Virat bhai will end up cutting his own finger by the way he was cutting the fruits. Virat just flashed him a smile and then passed the plate towards the general direction of Jadu, Harry and Yuzi so they could stop the complaint session against him.
But instead of taking the slice of fruit the three looked at each other and opened their mouth in a feed me gesture towards Virat. Rolling, his eyes and muttering about childish guys Virat stuffed the fruit slices in their mouths.
"Guys, tum bhi le skte ho" Virat said passing the plate towards Bhuvi, Shami and Rishu while beckoning Subh and Shreyash near as he looked at their seat in shock and spoke making a what you guys were thinking face " when I asked you to make yourself comfortable, I didn't mean take the farthest corner of the room. Come here or you'll make everyone think... I gave you some kind of punishment."
"Yeah, Yeah you can sit near my Chiku Bhaiya, I won't mind at all," Harry said flashing them a toothy smile.
"I'll save you from this idiot, I promise," Bhuvi reassured them heartily watching their still anxious expressions.
As everyone else snickered at Harry's expression and Rishab demanded cutely from his Virat Bhaiya as everyone else gave him an "are you serious look?"
"Virat bhaiya feed me the Guava na, "Rishu opened his mouth and Virat placed the Guava slice in his mouth though he had to lean over Kulya to reach Rishu but the grin Rishu gave Virat was worth it. Even the "You're getting soft" looks Jaddu sent him.
While Virat was alternating between feeding Yuzi, Jassi, Harry, Kulya and Rishu as they absolutely refused to eat with their hands. Shreyash and Subh had reached them and arranged their sitting arrangements beside Bhuvi who passed them a welcoming smile. And Virat forwarded the plate of fruits in their direction.
The shy Subh and Shreyash opened their mouths to deny but Virat thought like Rishu, Harry and all. They also wanted to be fed by him. So, without giving them any chance to speak he placed the slices in their mouth.
"Rahul, Jinks, Manish aur Nav kaha rh gye? yeh apni team ka second Kumbhkaran bhi yaha hai? Voh charo kaha hai?" Virat asked the room, in general, noticing the missing people as he threw a pointed look towards Shami their second resident kumbhkaran after Rohit, missing the surprised look of Shreyash and elated look of Subh totally.
"Areey, voh Rahul na bahar bhatak raha tha..." Harry started but Virat's one look stopped him in mid and he started whistling innocently looking away from Virat.
When Manish, Rahul, Nav and Jinks entered the room together. Nav looking awestruck by Jinks, Rahul looking worriedly at Manish and Manish looking a little gloomy for reasons unknown to Virat.
Rahul sent Virat a look that read something between "I want to sit with you too and I'm hungry". Manish didn't meet Virat's eyes for reasons unknown to him. Nav passed him a nervous smile and Jinks eyes teasingly spoke to him "Everyone seems scared of you chiku."
Virat just rolled his eyes at his friends acting all insane tonight. He has been very worried for the past few days as Ro had been hurt and packed back home and he couldn't at all interact with the team, especially the newbies.
He had been constantly on a video call with Ro and Mahi bhai until Jinks came and told him to get himself together and arrange a team bonding session.
And now when he had arranged it in his room as it's raining cats and dogs outside. Jinks is being totally unhelpful. They're in South Africa currently and his friends have turned their backs on him.
"So, Am I really scary guys?" Virat asked Subh, Shrey, Rishu and Nav particularly as he ignored the snort from Jaddu and chortle from Harry. Well, he needs to start somewhere, didn't he?
"No, absolutely not Virat Bhaiya." Nav and Subh stated together looking at him with shocked eyes as Rishu nodded his head vehemently in their support and even Shreyash nodded though looking a little unsure about this matter.
"Really, then why did it took you three weeks to even talk to me Nav and yes, I'm talking about that net session where I had to finally hunt you down and Yuzi, you don't even dare to open your mouth. You were literally hiding in your room avoiding me." Virat shot down Yuzi's reply even before he began.
"ha toh mujhe voh line yaad hai jo aapne boli thi mujhe "Over mein 6 chake hi khayega na 7 wa toh ni khayega na toh no pressure daal jo daalna hai" and meine abhi bhi 6 chake ni khaye" Yuzi said boastingly to Virat, who just rolled his eyes at his direction.
Nav pipped in smiling a little bit cheekily at Virat" same line, mujhe bhi"
"What toh what else should I've said to you two? You both were fidgeting and looking at me like quote I'll eat you both alive unquote," Virat gave them both a look while mimicking their expressions while meeting them for the first time.
"well, you were kind of scary you know Virat Bhaiya." Yuzi said with a flat tone
"And the way you said call me Virat, chiku or Chiku bhaiya. Don't call me sir ever, was kind of terrifying too." Nav stated trying very hard to hide his smile watching Virat making a face.
"Chote bhai banaye hai toh teasing right bhi diya hai" Yuzi added slyly watching Virat's facial expressions.
Virat couldn't help but laugh at their words and watched as Rishu, Subh and Shreyash were looking at their banter with wide eyes.
Virat knew from experience that Rishu obeyed his eye commands too without questioning even when he played for the opposition team. And he, really wanted the other two to open up too. He knew Shreyash shared a really good bond with Ro.
"Yuzi yaad hai tune ek interview mein bola tha that Rahul is your bestie while I'm your bhaiya. Harry, do you wanna know how that happened?" Virat asked with a maniacal grin as he looked towards Yuzi and Rahul.
"YESS" Harry screamed looking between Yuzi and Rahul.
"Don't you dare Virat/Virat Bhaiya" Rahul and Yuzi screamed back at the same time.
As everyone else looked genuinely interested. Even Manish was finally smiling and Virat thought to have a heart to heart later with his bro. Well, he will include Jadu too and they will talk about the good old U-19 days and the crazy things they did.
"So this story begins something like this. We were having our match in Kolkata and the weather outside was really really good. So, I went and knocked on these two idiots rooms. First, I called Yuzi asking him for a walk outside and then Rahul. Both of them, I don't know why though they agreed to grace me with their cool presences and go on a walk around the hotel with me. So, we three were walking around the hotel area. I don't know what it was exactly but it was this place with trees on both side and a pathway leading to the poolside situated on the backside of the hotel. And we three were on that road, talking about life in general and Rahul's hairstyle if I remember correctly. WE were in this area and the lights were flickering in front of us but we didn't pay it any mind and walked forward where no lights were on. We were the only people around that area. And we could see the glistening pool water ahead. We were walking leisurely when a sudden really odd sound from our left stopped the three of us in our tracks. The sound was like something we have never heard, it was an odd mixture of some type of growl, whine and howl. IT was all dark around us, no one else was present there and the bushes a little ahead of us were shaking very violently and so were the trees but we couldn't feel any breeze around us. I took a few steps to investigate the matter, the bushes were shaking very violently and the odd sound seems to come nearer and then" Virat spoke creating the perfect horror story environment with his words as everyone leaned in anticipation to know what happened. He watched as with his every word Kulya and Jassi's grip on his arms tightened.
Rishu leaned more into Bhuvi and even Subh leaned in unconsciously into Shreyash. Yuzi and Rahul were facepalming. Harry was listening to every detail with uttermost attention and even Jaddu was looking very interested to know what will happen next. Jinks was sending him a look that screamed: "don't scare the kids". Ignoring it Virat continued "then I turned back to check on these two worriedly. I found both of them looking left and right then Yuzi and Rahul who were in their chappals, took off their chappals and then lifting them in their hands. They ran away from there on full speed leaving me there alone staring at their direction totally shocked by their actions. They didn't even once stop in their path leave turn around to check on me till they reached back the hotel room." Virat finished looking at Rahul and Yuzi with a smirk as the two deserters groaned in disbelief.
"And then Virat bhai followed us back to the hotel, running in almost same speed as us if not greater than us," Yuzi added dryly as everyone else present in the room was looking at the three of them dumbfounded.
"So, did you two want me to face whatever it was out there alone before a match?" Virat questioned Yuzi sounding highly incredulous.
Sir Jadeja couldn't help but look totally disgusted at his teammate's antics and couldn't help but announce in a tone that showed how disappointed he was with them all.
"I'm feeling like disowning you three, you know I spent a full night in a ghost house in Jamnagar and you three couldn't even check what was there, darpok."
"Well, aap sir jadeja ho hum mamuli insaan hai" Virat countered Jadeja's words as JAddu rolled his eyes at his friend. He needed to train them on how to deal with ghost really.
"But why did these two waste time in taking off and then lifting the slippers. Couldn't they just run with the slippers on or leaving the slippers behind?" Harry asked Virat totally not understanding the logic behind their this action?
"Well, they had a wonderful logic behind their this action..." Virat started as Rahul threw a cushion at his face trying to stop him from speaking but Virat continued even after receiving a face full of pillow.
He said laughing "Because you can run faster on naked feet, apparently and they didn't want to leave anything behind for the ghost."
And soon everyone present in the room roared with laughter. Harry was cackling and Rahul knew from his facial expression that he won't let him live down this incidence ever. Virat was bad but Harry would be worse and he couldn't help but groan thinking about all the inappropriate jokes Harry will make on him.
Virat's smile widened when he noticed Manish cackling along with Harry as Rahul tried his best to disappear and Yuzi looked like he wished the earth will suddenly open and swallow him in. Virat was happy knowing he could lift Manish's mood with his story.
"But how did Rahul bhai and Yuzi bhai became besties due to this incidence?" Shreyash couldn't help but demand from Virat without even knowing he was demanding from Virat as the laughter died around him and he suddenly felt very embarrassed when both Rahul bhai and Yuzi bhai directed their death glares at him.
"Well, that happened after this kiddo. I don't know what happened but there was a sudden power cut that night for hardly 30 minutes and after that, I found Rahul and Yuzi in the same room and apparently as besties for the rest of the season." Virat finished grinning madly.
And soon the whole room was cackling in mad laughter. When their laughter fit ended with Yuzi and Rahul threatening to drown them all. Then Jaddu demanded to share his experience with the ghosts for the benefit of the whole team. Shreyash till now doesn't know whether it was really for benefit of the team or for making them scared of their own shadows. He was really thankful of Virat Bhai who allowed all of them to stay in his room the entire night. Even going as far as providing his own bed to the tired bowlers and joining him, Subh, Jinks and others on the floor though Jaddu bhai's and Harry's mid-night cackles didn't exactly allow them a peaceful night. He was happy to be a part of that madness. And when Virat Bhai passed him three extra passes with a knowing smile next morning. Shreyash knew exactly why everyone around the team loved Virat bhai very much. The answer was simple Virat bhai really cared, he genuinely cared. If Virat bhai let you call him bhai then he'll be the best bhai out there for you.
And so after that night, Shreyash wasn't afraid of Virat bhai. He wasn't afraid of glaring at Virat bhai when he continued calling him Shreya. He took it in good humour. He took it as Virat bhai being his annoying elder brother self trying his best to bully his younger brothers. He didn't even back out from trolling Virat bhai on social media, in good humour of course. For as Virat bhai's younger brother he had all rights to troll and irritate him. And after that night, Shreyash was very happy to have both Captain Virat Kohli and Virat Bhaiya though he won't ever admit it in front of Virat Bhaiya, he loved him a lot too.
