Hoth is ruthless. Being born on Mustafar, I'm used to boiling lava and extreme temperatures. Hoth is a polar opposite, and I can not even begin to explain how much I hate it, but wherever war goes, the Rebellion follows. I just wish the war went to somewhere warmer, like maybe Tatooine.
I was in the middle of strapping the leads onto my Tauntaun, which is named Katuunko, or I call him Kat for short. I named him after the king of Toydaria, who during the Clone Wars, refused to pick sides. It takes great courage to not bend and break under pressure from either power houses, but he unfortunately died anyways,
"Skyguy!" I called over to Luke, who was strapping up his Tauntaun as well, "Would you hurry up? I want to try to get out of this snow as quickly as possible."
I could see Luke rolling his eyes as he pulled himself up, "From where I can see, you're the one not on your Tauntaun yet, so would you hurry up?"
I smirked and pulled myself up onto Katuunko; the large snow lizard grunting under the sudden weight. I rode over beside Luke and kissed his cheek, "You annoy me sometimes."
"You started it, and you know it," he smiled while rolling his eyes, "Now, do you have everything you need? Scarf? Com? Mittens?"
"Yes, yes, and yes," I smiled at his overprotective nature and waved at the workers to let them know we're ready, "Do you have everything? You're more forgetful than I am."
My boyfriend nodded; watching the giant heavy door to the outside open, "We need to make this quick. Blizzard is supposed to pick up in around an hour."
"Let's get a move on then," I commented while Kat slid under the door, alongside Luke's unnamed Tauntaun. He isn't as sentimental as I am.
I moved my goggles, specifically made for the harsh snows of Hoth, over my eyes and glanced over at Luke, "I'll cut to the right and how about you go to the left? Meet back here after we're done?"
"Sounds good," Luke replies; his voice muffled by his woolen scarf, "Stay safe, my love."
I rubbed his arm lovingly and nodded, "Yeah, you too, okay?"
This was always my least favorite part of being in the Rebellion. We always have to put our work in front of each other. It reminds me of the old Jedi rules that Luke told me about— it's better not to have bonds in case something happens to them. I trust Luke. Nothing will happen to him.
The whipping winds of Hoth made my exposed cheeks turn to a cherry red, "Kat, pick up the pace," I whispered while petting his neck.
The Tauntaun nodded and grunted, picking up his speed tremendously. Everything seemed okay so far. No Imperial presence. Nothing that could harm us. Grabbing my com from my belt and slowing Katuunko down, I click the button. Right as my report began to leave my lips, a meteor of some sort fell from the sky,
"Luke, I'm almost done out here," I started while multitasking with calming down the skittish Tauntaun, "A meteor just dropped from the sky. I'm gonna check it out."
"Okay," he answered, "Everything is good on my end. I'm gonna go ahead back to the base if you're almost done."
I pulled my scarf over my cheeks a bit more, "Yeah go ahead, I'll be back in a bit."
Placing my com back on my waist, I padded over. My calming hadn't worked well on Katuunko, "What's wrong boy?" I asked while rubbing his horns, "You smell something?"
He continued to shuffle around anxiously. I dropped to the loose snow bank below me; cupping his face in my hands, "Hey, hey you're okay!"
Kat let out a glass-shattering scream; kicking me in the side and running off into the snow. I couldn't see much because my goggles had fallen off from the immense impact, and now the snow was blinding me. Feeling my stomach, I could tell something was broken, and my mitten was blood-stained. As I pulled myself up, I stood face-to-face with an angry and hungry Wampa.
I shrieked and attempted to run through the snow, but the combination of my bruised ribs, sliced up midsection, and loose snow, it was impossible to put distance between myself and the Wampa, which it easily scooped me up and made off with me towards its den.
Screaming my throat raw, I punched along it's fluffy white back, but it didn't seem to notice. All hope is lost. Luke is back at Echo Base and Katuunko is god-knows-where. I'm not going to hold his actions against him, though. He is a Tauntaun, and no matter how domesticated they seem, they're still animals that'll fight for themselves over their riders, which is respectable in a sense. I wouldn't go back for my rider if I was a Tauntaun, but I kind of wish he would.
Falling to the side, the Wampa throws me roughly into the rocky cave wall, hoping I would get knocked out so it would have an easier time eating me. Before the Wampa's ginormous teeth grazed my skin, a loud squeal was heard.
I looked at the source of the noise, trying to focus my eyes after that hard hit to the wall. It was Katuunko!
He screamed again, and bucked himself up in the air to appear bigger than he really is. He rammed his rock-hard horns into the Wampa's stomach, but that only knocked the wind out of it.
The large snow-white animal growled loudly; the icy stalactites from above shaking furiously. The Wampa grabbed Kat's horns and picked him up; roaring again, before yanking his horns from his body, blood gushing out like a waterfall.
Placing a hand over my mouth to block my scream of shock and fear, I quickly use my poor Tauntaun as a distraction to abandon the cave.
Once outside, I could still hear the poor animal's screams as it was torn apart by the hungry beast. Tears over-flooded my eyes in sadness for my partner. Just like the Clone Wars hero, Katuunko died honorably. I won't let his sacrifice be in vein.
I got a good enough distance from the cave to where I could no longer hear Kat or the Wampa. Clawing at my com, I shiver and activate it, "L-Luke?" my voice scratchy and raw from dehydration and the adrenaline rush.
Luke Skywalker

It was getting very late. The sun was beginning to go down and (Y/N) still wasn't back from patrol,
"Han, we need to go out and search for (Y/N)," Luke grabbed the flannel-material jacket of his friend, "They're about to shut the gate, and if she's trapped out there."
He shuddered at the thought of his girlfriend being caught out there all night long. Han peered over at Leia who looked like she was about to blow a casket at the man, and nodded, "Yeah, sure Luke. Let me take care of this first, please?" he rhetorically asked, pulling his arm from the Jedi and walking over to the second Skywalker, trying to help her not get too angry at him.
Luke anxiously leaned against the wall and nibbled his thumb, clenching the com in his hand— the only thing holding the couple together. Right as he was about to contact his girlfriend, her weak yet reassuring voice struggled through the com link, "L-Luke?"
Luke lifted the com to his lips in fear, "Sweetie, where are you?" he asked while waving Han over, "Han and I are coming to get you now!" he commented while whistling for the Tauntaun's, which came over obediently.
"I-I don't know," she whispered, the line going dead.
"Let's go!" Han yelled loudly while leading Luke and his Tauntaun out into the damning weather beyond.

I had dropped my com link into the snow. My fingers were beginning to freeze off, so to save them more time, dropping the com link was the only option. Collapsing into the snow, my eyes begin to slide shut. Surprisingly, I'm overwhelmingly warm instead of cold.
Voices circled around my head, sounds of men and women and children. All telling me to "trust in the force", and "it will work out, only through trust." Before I could comprehend what they were saying, their voices erupted in screams; a low mechanical breathing in the background. An evil sound. It turned my body cold again.
Then my mind went to Luke. Those voices. Luke only told me of the Jedi a couple times before, but I was told even as an entity of the force, they can still guide you. That breathing with the voices. I believe that was a vision of Darth Vader eliminating the Jedi Order. Just the sheer fear in the screams, the evident pain.
Then, I felt a strong pair of arms wrap around my waist and hoist me out of the numbingly-cold snow, "(Y/N)! We're here! Can you hear me?"
Sounds like Luke for sure, but my body wasn't reacting, so he just placed me on the back of his Tauntaun; wrapping a heavy wool blanket around my shoulders; attempting to warm me, "Han, let Echo Base know we found her!"
It felt like hours, but we finally made it back to Echo Base. I was rushed off to the hospital wing; Luke right beside me the entire time.
I can't remember much, but from what the nurse droid described, I had 7 broken ribs, my stomach had been ripped open by the Wampa and I had severe infection, alongside frostbite. Without Kat, I would be dead.
Luke stayed by me the entire time, holding my hand and kissing my cheeks for reassurance, telling me he would never leave me alone again,
"How did this even happen?" he asked, Han having gone back to Leia after seeing I will make it, "I didn't sense anything at all."
I sat up and rubbed the blonde's hand lovingly, "When I found the Probe Droid, Kat started acting weird. He bucked me and that's when I was attacked by the Wampa, but Kat returned. His sacrifice saved my life."
I had already informed Echo Base about the Probe Droid, so this wasn't new information to the Skywalker boy, "I'm just happy you're alright. I don't know what I would do if you died out there and I could've prevented it."
"You don't need to blame yourself, my love," I smiled and kissed him; flinching from the sudden movement, "I do have a question though."
He nodded and helped me lay back into a comfortable position, "What's that?"
"Do you recognize the name, Mace Windu? He came to me in a dream, and I believe he showed me the deaths of the Jedi Order," I whispered, remembering the shrill screams of the individuals.
Luke shook his head somberly, "Unfortunately, no. Do you think it was just a hallucination?"
I shrugged, holding onto his hand, "It seemed too real. I heard Vader as well."
I only encountered Vader once in my life. Once you hear that sad mechanical breathing, you never forget it,
"He's the one who killed them all, Luke," I began again, "Vader destroyed the Jedi Order. I don't know when or how, but I know this Mace guy came to me for a reason. It may be so I can warn you."
"Okay," he nodded, still not entirely believing me, "Just try and get some rest. I'm going to help the team get ready for the Imperial attack."
I nodded softly and pressed my lips against his once more, "Stay safe. Please."
"Always, my love."
I knew from that moment on, Luke wouldn't stop searching for Mace Windu, whether it's looking for family members, or relics, or information, but if I know it's my boyfriend, he will get to the bottom of this.
