How lonely it is up here
My growing shadow swallows me and becomes a monster
"What?" Jieun breathed out into the phone, her voice barely there as the utter shock ran through her every being.
"H-he tried to kill himself."
That was all she needed to hear, the phone clattering onto the ground and she felt the tears rising to her eyes- lunging out of Mark's grip from their cute sibling cuddle session on the couch.
She couldn't breathe, she could see- mind full of confusion- fear.
Pulling on her shoes, Mark entered the hallway with furrowed brows.
"Take me to the hospital, please!"
"Jieun i-"
"Please! Please Mark!"

Her head pounded, heart beating rapidly against her chest and a cry ripped through her throat as she entered the hospital with her heart clenching painfully.
It felt like she was losing, losing the promise she made to him- that he was okay.
She felt guilty, she should have noticed- should have been there.
She should have said it sooner.
Everything seemed like a blur, repeating in her head as she ran and ran- blinded by the salty tears of agony.
She kept running until her eyes fell on the familiar younger boy, turning towards her- holding his arms out as he too had tears dripping down his cheeks. Red eyed and flushed cheeks- hair disheveled.
Jieun let out a cry when her head hit Jisung's chest and he couldn't help but join in, the streams of cries spilling from her mouth.
"You must be Jieun..." The woman trailed off, sniffling and the younger girl with puffy eyes nodded, bowing and holding her hand out.
Renjun's Mother shook her head, engulfing Jieun into a hug.
"Thank you." She whispered to Jieun- painfully holding her cries in.
"For what?" Jieun asked confused.
"He's spoken about you...he's very fond of you and, you helped him."
The door burst open, a doctor running out of the room in a panic.
"We need a defibrillator, we're losing him!"
Jieun gasped, instinctively standing up and walking over to the opened door where Renjun layed- limp and lifeless.
His eyes were shut, he looked peaceful.
But the unmoving motions of his chest made Jieun's eyes begin tearing up once more.
The doctors ripped his shirt off, frantically running around to save him.
"Heart rate is lowering!" One called out and Jieun prayed he would be okay- there was nothing more she could do.
She was hopeful.
That's until the rhythmical beeping of his heart rate fell into one long sound, the line appearing on the monitor as his heart stopped beating.
