"I've never been lost, but I was mighty

turned around for three days." -Daniel Boone

<< Life in the Unknown >>

Dakota and Jack, so far, are lucky that Michael hasn't shown up. Dakota celebrated her luck by pacing back and forth in front of Mary. Jack watches her carefully, listening to the unintelligible mumbling that escapes his soulmates mouth.

Dakota knots her hands through her hair, tugging at it in frustration.

"Okay, Dakota, we need to calm down and think like Sam and Dean." Jack says soothingly.

"What do you think I am doing?!" Dakota snaps. "I know how to think like them, I do think like them. I'm trying to come up with a plan."

"Dakota, calm down." Jack presses, his own frustration doubled.

Dakota takes a couple deep breaths, running her hands through her hand. She stops her pacing and turns to face Jack and Mary, taking another deep breath.

"Okay, okay, okay, I'm good." She sighs, fidgeting with her hands slightly.

"Good, we need a plan." Jack tells her, agreeing with Dakota's thought to make a plan, just not her process.

Dakota refrains from snapping at Jack for repeating what she's been saying. She takes one last deep breath.

"Baby steps, first thing we need to do is get out of here." Dakota explains, giving both of them a look. "J, help me with this."

The two teens start to try and find a way to free Mary.

Sam and Dean argue back and forth in the Impala. Sam told Donna that it was safer for Doug to leave her, for her to let him go. Dean didn't agree with him.

"You keep saying I'm in a dark place, but I'm not, Dean." Sam nearly shouts. "Everything I'm saying is the truth. It's our lives. And I tried to pretend it didn't have to be. I tried to pretend we could have mom back and Cas and--and help Jack. But we can't. This ends one way for us, Dean. It ends bloody. It ends bad." Sam rants.

Dean stays quiet, just watching the road in front of him as guilt swells up in him.

"I know, Sam, I know. We led Dakota to her death, and Jack. We tried to bring mom back and I lost my daughter in the process." Dean seethes.

Sam sighs lightly, removing his gaze from the window to look at his brother.

"We don't know that." Sam mumbles unconvincingly.

"We do, Sam. We know. Jack and Dakota didn't go to the Bad Place with us, and they didn't end up with Kaia. So, they're dead."

"Dean, we thought the same thing about mom."

"And look where we are, look at what conversation we are having. If Dakota and Jack aren't dead, where the hell are they?"

"We'll find them." Sam says, though his words are bleak, like he doesn't believe what he's saying is true.

"No, we wont. Dakota is dead."

<><><><>

The door to the small run down church swings open, stopping the two teens in the their tracks.

Dakota flinches into Jack when Michael walks in the room, a few angels flanking him. Jack grips onto Dakota's hand, glaring harshly at his uncle.

"Kota, run." Mary wheezes in exhaustion.

"Go." Jack agrees with Mary.

"No, I'm not leaving you two. There's no way in hell I'm leaving you." Dakota hisses, tightening her grip on Jack while giving her grandmother a look.

"Well, look what we have here. Another Winchester joins the party." Michael taunts.

"Die."

"That would be no fun." Michael points out to Dakota at her blunt remark. "And we have a lot planned for you."

"Go to Hell.  I hear there's a spot available. Nice cage, really spacious, you'll like it." Dakota drawls sarcastically.

Jack elbows Dakota in the ribs, silently telling her to be quiet.

"I was about to say the same thing, we have a nice cage, really spacious place for you." Michael quotes with a wicked smirk.

Dakota narrows her eyes and purses her lips, giving Michael a nasty look.

"Dakota, calm down." Jack whispers in Dakota's ear. The hunter takes a deep breath, not moving her gaze from the arch angel but forcing herself to relax a little.

"Why don't we go check out that nice cage, Dakota." Michael hums.

Dakota gave him a grossed out look. "Sorry dude, you're like a million years old, and I'm only fifteen. Plus, I'm kinda his." She says, gesturing to Jack.

Jack gives Michael a proud look, but otherwise keeps his expression neutral. Michael casts a look over his shoulder, the two angels flanking him ascend on the teenagers and the now free Mary Winchester.

Dean walks into the library a stack of books in his hand, Sam studies the pile of books in front of him.

"All right." Dean sighs. "We've got Principia Phantasmagoia." He starts to toss the books onto the table. "We have...'Archive of the Unnatural Occurrences.'  And we've got 'Jower et Nuet.'  Kind of a weird name."

"'Jour et Nuit.'" Sam corrects. "It's, uh, it's French. It means 'The Book of Day and Night.'"

"Fancy." Dean states. "So this is everything that even mentions some alternate realities. So there's bound to be something in here that talks about the Apocalypse World, right?"

"Yeah, maybe." Sam answers, his eyes slightly narrowed at his brother. The night before Dean was swearing that Dakota was dead, now he's trying to find everything he can about the Apocalypse World?

"Dude." Dean presses.

"I'm just saying, Dean, Jack was our way over there, obviously, so with him gone--and Dakota--"

"Okay, well, Jack's been gone before." Dean points out, ignoring the added fact about his daughter. "We found him once. We can find him and Dakota again."

"No, no, he didn't run away." Sam argues. "He and Dakota are literally in an alternate reality."

"Okay, so we'll just come up with a plan B, okay?"

"Okay, what is up, man?" Sam asks.

Dean furrows his brow in confusion. "What?"

"What is up with you? Last night you argued for an hour that Dakota was dead, gone, six-feet under. But now? Now, you're searching high and low to find her?"

Dean sighs, sitting in the chair across from his brother. "I said that before about mom, and look at what happened? Mom was alive, she still is, so what's to say that Dakota isn't either? I know what I said, Sam, but I can't just give up on her without at least looking. She's my baby."

Sam nods his head.

"And you said it yourself. We just keep our heads down and we'll do the work."

"You said that." Sam points out.

Dean shrugs. "And I was right."

Sam rolls his eyes and sighs. "Yeah."

"So you read, do your Sam thing. I'm gonna go for a beer run."

"Yeah." Sam responds.

"We should probably loop Cas in at some point." Dean suggests.

"We'll fill him in when he calls. He checks in every day. Maybe not mention Dakota."

"Yeah, nerdy angel dude would tear the world apart for Dakota." Dean sighs, lowering his head before tapping the table and leaving to get beer.

Dakota and Mary curl up together on the dusty floor of their cell. Jack stares out of the barred window.

Dakota felt weak, traveling to a different dimension wasn't easy on her body, despite her young age. It didn't help that Michael decided to starve the three. He withheld all food and water from them, until he could find a use for them.

The door bursts open and Dakota springs to her feet in seconds. She glares at Michael and Zachariah, the angel she wished she'd never see again.

"Time to shine, Jacky boy." Michael claps with a grin.

"Hell no." Dakota spits, moving to stand in front of Jack. She wished her movement was fluid, but in reality she stumbled to him--nearly falling on her face.

"Sorry, Winchester, you have no say." Zachariah hisses, shoving Dakota to the side.

Because of her weakness and lack of food, Dakota crumbles to the ground.

"Kota." Jack takes a step forward but Michael and Zachariah grab him.

They go to drag him out of the room, but Michael stops. He looks down at Dakota's curled up form and smirks.

"You know what? I think Jacky needs some incentive." Michael grabs the back of Dakota's shirt, wrenching her to her feet and dragging her with them.

"No." Mary weakly protests, but she was easily ignored.

<><><><>

Michael has his arm wrapped around Dakota chest, keeping her in position as Zachariah tries to search Jack's mind.

Jack stands in a trance like state, completely unaware of his surroundings.

"Zachariah, these mind games of yours aren't working." Michael complains. "We're close."

"Okay, I'll...I'll keep trying."  Zachariah promises.

"And you're sure this...half-breed is our ticket to the other side?" Michael asks.

"Mind your words, bitch." Dakota hisses, struggle against the arch angels hold.

The angel sighs before shoving Dakota to the ground, knowing the girl was too weak to do anything.

"Yes." Zachariah answers Michael previous question. "And not just a single one-way ticket like the prophet's spell. This boy, he can open a rift big enough to march an army through."

"You have no friends, who the hell's in this army?" Dakota sneers.

"Shut up!" Michael spits, kicking Dakota in the ribs.

The hunter groans, before turning on her back and kicking Michael's knee inwards. She turns and springs to her feet, ignoring the wave of nausea that came over her. She threw herself at the arch angel, but Zachariah catches her around the waist.

"Stupid girl." Michael glares.

Dakota throws her head back as hard as she can, catching Zachariah in the nose. The man yelps and drops Dakota in shock. She quickly brings her foot up and kicks him between the legs, causing him to drop the ground quickly.

Dakota spins to face Michael, as she does so she brings her fist around and it meets the angel's jaw.

She wasn't going down without a fight. She wasn't going to let them use Jack without a fight.

She wasn't a damsel. She was a Winchester.

They feared her. Not the other way around.

PLEASE READ

Hey guys! I'm sorry that this is so short and terrible.

I'm back at college, so I don't have a lot of time.

I also, sadly, have lost interest in this story. I'm going to try to finish it, but I don't like this book anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I love Dakota with my whole heart. She's my first character I've shared. I just don't like this book anymore. I don't connect to the story anymore.

I really hope I get that spark back, but I don't know, guys.

So updates are going to be spaced, if at all.

Again, I'm so sorry.

I still love you guys whole heartedly (idk if that's a word). I'm sorry.

Love, Kaz.
