Sadness used to pay me erratic visits
She'd hit me with a wave of gloom
Over a petty strife, a blunt insult,
Or broken China in the living room
Sadness used to pay me erratic visits
She'd place a lump in my throat
In matters that seemed so trifling in hindsight,
She would rock the boat
Sadness used to pay me erratic visits
She'd paint tears in my eyes
At the end of relationships, lost victories,
Or painstaking goodbyes
Sadness began to pay me nightly visits
Chasing Sleep far away
She emptied herself in my poetry,
And wide awake I lay
Sadness now permanently resides in my mind
Her presence is here to stay
She snatches my smiles and seizes my joy,
And steals a part of me every day.
