"Now then!" Senku smiled once you both went back to the others after Tsukasa's kind of funeral. "I suppose we should start making preparations to head out. We gotta get started with our science craft!"
"Head out?" you frowned in slight confusion.
"Byakuya and his crew left us priceless information across thousands of years." he paused. "The origin of the petrification ray, lies on the other side of the earth!"
"Whaaaat?! The other side?!" Ginrou exclaimed.
"But how are we going to get there?!" Suika asked.
"Ha! What are you worried about? Even neanderthals crossed the continent of Eurasia."
"They did?" you mumbled.
"Yeah, but that took tens of thousands of years didn't it?!" Gen said. "On top of that, those former primates probably had crazy powerful legs!"
"Well then in that case we'll have to cross it using our heads and our hearts!" Chrome exclaimed. "From one end of the earth to the other!"
"Yeah." Senku's smile widen. "We'll soar across the world and solve all the mysteries of this stone world! The grand age of sail begins!"
You gasped loudly, slightly jumping up and down.
"Pirates~." you said, clearly trying not to shout.
"That's what made you react?" Gen looked at you.
"I love pirates."
"I know." Senku sighed, remembering that Pirates of the Caribbean marathon.
That evening, you were with Yuzuriha at your new place. With the houses that were getting built because the Kingdom of Science was moving in, you both decided to share a house together. In addition to saving space, it allowed you to have some friend-time, which included a good session of gossip. And oh boy did you have things to tell.
"Then he said: 'I wouldn't know what I'd do if you gave me an answer anyway'."
She looked at you with big eyes, her hands on her cheeks.
"And you didn't answer?"
"I wasn't going to. I just didn't know what to say, it's just...not a question you ask someone. Especially when the boy they like is in the room with them." you looked down and mumbled. "Plus...after I basically confessed to Senk-."
"Woawoawoa! What?!"
You flinched, she was suddenly leaning really close towards you you had to back off.
"Uh... Did I not mention that?" you nervously smiled, your eyes darting across the room.
"No! And you should have started with that! What do you mean you confes-?!"
"Shshshsh!" you placed your hands on her mouth, blushing. "Too loud."
She narrowed her eyes as she slowly sat back. Then you removed your hands.
"Plus, I didn't, like...directly say it. I mean I think I made it obvious... But..."
"(Y/n), just tell me what happened. And don't spare *any* detail."
"...okay." you said under your breath. "So... the night after we made the guitar, I made sure him and I were alone."
Sitting around the campfire, you've both finished your dinner for a while now, and you've been glancing at Senku ever since, hesitating to speak up. The silence was almost pushing you down with its weight, though of course Senku didn't seem to mind. With your new level of courage, your mentally slapped yourself.
"Ah! I just remembered!" you lied and took your guitar which was beside you.
"What?"
"I... I wrote a song."
"...really now?"
"Yeah, but I don't know if the message is clear enough. So could you tell me?"
"You're asking me? You know I'm not the person to ask for that stuff."
"I-I know but, just listen okay."
He sighed and shifted in his seat to face you. You gulped as you set the instrument.
"Keep in mind that it's my very first song, that I finished that is. And the lyrics don't really fit the whole thing, so it's pretty cringe-especially one part where, like I swear it was just for the rhyme. So-."
"(Y/n). Just play."
"...okay." you said under your breath.
You looked down at your hands, your heart going crazy. You took one last deep breath. This was it, there's no going back now.
[Now, I cannot take credit for those amazing lyrics, so: written by Going Spacewards in their cover of Fly Me to The Moon. Go check 'em out it's dope]
"They say that everyday the universe expands, and we discover certain things that we don't understand. Well, dark matter ain't the only mystery at hand, I'm wondering how I possibly got a boy like you as my man."
You didn't dare to look at his face while you played. You pretended to be concentrating on your hands. Your face was as red as ever, and your heart was beating like a drum. You were dreading the upcoming lyric, the one that was the most out of place here.
"It's a statistical anomaly but boy you got me, gravity is pulling me to your heavenly body."
'Oh my god! So cringe! I said it!' you freaked out in your head.
But you didn't let that affect your performance. Even though you were closed off on your audience.
"No astronomical phenomenon could ever stop me, you got a smile that every stars in the galaxy copied. The constellations couldn't make as beautiful a pattern, the conversations every night I ring you up like Saturn." a smile formed on your face, getting into it. "The telescopes tell us folks that you're the coolest view, a supernova scooting over to make room for you. 'Cause you eclipse every wonder of the cosmos, it's almost unfair to them but your the one I want most. It's a miracle that Galileo never found you, if he did he'd say the universe revolved around you." in this brief moment of nothing being played, you slightly and unknowingly lifted your head, allowing him to see the soft smile on your blushing face.
With a transition, you then sang the famous song 'Fly Me To The Moon'. Because it fitted well, and also to calm yourself by getting back in your comfort zone. You both liked this song, you heard it was played on Apollo 11 right before the landing on the Moon.
You actually started writing this song back in the modern era in high-school. You were struggling like crazy, but spending time with Senku always gave you inspiration, it also gave you the idea to make it about space. That song wasn't finished until recently and even after that, it was pushed in the back of your mind. But after that day when you were so scared to lose him. That's when you finally realized...
It was not just a little high-school crush.
Once you were done, everything fell silent, with only the cracking of the fire and the animals in the distant forest. Though you just wanted to stand up and walk away, you forced yourself to look at Senku. He had no expression whatsoever, he just looked at you. And god dammit, did it make you nervous.
You were about to speak up when he laughed.
"Kukuku! It was cringy at a certain point! 'Heavenly body'?"
"I swear it was just for the rhyme! I know it's super cheesy but..." you looked down before looking back at him, still blushing. "It's important to me! And...uh, yeah."
Senku chuckled.
"Don't worry." he stood up. "The message is clear."
Your eyes widen. He yawned.
"Alright, I'm gonna head to bed." he began to walk away, waving his hand. "G'night."
And then, you were left alone. You gazed at the fire, processing what happened. Eventually, you smiled and let out a giggle of relief. It felt so good to have that weight lifted off your chest.
But now, your smile faded and you looked up to where Senku left.
"...now what?"
"And I'm still confused about that."
You looked at Yuzuriha, she had stars in her eyes. But she still hadn't say anything, so you continued.
"Even the day after, it's like nothing happened. Which I guess is a good thing, I would've want things to drastically change. But...He's not stupid! He got that it was basically a confession, right? Maybe I should've just tell him directly."
"Even if you wanted to, I'm sure you wouldn't be capable of that (Y/n)-chan." she said. "But he didn't say no! That's a yes in Senku's language!"
You thought for a moment.
"I guess I gave him a non-direct confession, it's only logical for him to give me a non-direct answer."
"...So, is this it? Are you two dating?!" she enthusiastically asked.
"I don't think so...? Like I said, it's like nothing happened." you paused. "But I'll try to be more open with my feelings from now on."
"That's great (Y/n)-chan!"
You nodded, smiling.
"At some point he'll have to give me a straight answer."
Senku faked a yawn.
"Alright, I'm gonna head to bed." he began to walk away, waving his hand. "G'night."
The whole way to his house, his expression was blank. Only once he was inside did he realize... Why the hell did he walk away?! He wasn't even tired!
How could he sleep when his mind was going crazy?!
He placed a hand on his slightly blushing face, sighing. Why did you have to confess now?! He knew from the way you kept looking at him that you had something to tell him, but he wasn't expecting a confession. In song form none less! When you talked about a song, he wished you were joking.
That smile you had...so soft and genuine. God dammit!
Thank god you gave him an opportunity to give you a non-direct answer. Because he sure as hell wouldn't know what to say if you straight up told him.
"Dammit... Now what?" he asked himself, annoyed.
He looked down running a hand through his hair. He could just act as if nothing happened. No big change necessary.
Yeah! Sure!
Surely this won't bite him in the ass later on!
