Chapter 50
JASON’S POV
‘This one looks good.’ Chris told me.
‘It’s almost 2000 dollars a month, are you out of your mind?’ I told him.
We had been looking at different news paper searching for an apartment. I looked for a reasonable one and Chris was looking at the over the top ones.
‘But it would be awesome.’ He said.
I rolled my eyes, ‘Yeah, can you afford 1000 dollars every month plus hydro and water, plus you talk about cable and internet. Can you pay all of those?’ I asked him.
‘No but…’ he started saying. ‘You said you’d pay half.’ He added.
‘Yeah, of the necessities, cable and internet aren’t. Plus the apartments you’re looking at are way out of our price range.’ I said to him.
‘Ok, what did you come up with then?’ He said.
‘Two bedroom, one bathroom, with obviously, kitchen, small dining room and living room. So pretty much like we have here but with an extra bedroom, and we’d have to pay for hydro and water.’ I told him.
‘How much?’ he asked.
‘1200 dollars.’ I answered him.
‘Wow, that’s cheap.’ He said.
‘Yeah, compared to what you’ve been looking at.’ I said.
‘Ok, so we’ve got 5 that are pretty much the same thing at around the same price. When do we call the owners to see the places?’ he asked.
‘Should probably wait until Leah gets here and call tomorrow morning after nine.’ I said.
‘Why nine?’ Chris asked.
‘Because, if it was me, I’d kick the person ass to call before nine. It’s being respectful.’ I answered him.
He nodded. ‘Ok, sounds good. Can we stop now, I’m getting bored.’ He said.
I rolled my eyes, ‘Yeah.’ I answered.
I streached, we’ve been at the kitchen table for about one hour now. I got home from work at 9pm and I was tired.
I got up and asked Chris if he ate. He said no so I ordered a pizza and we decided to play a game with the ball. When the pizza got here, we ate in the living room and continued to play our game.

After awhile, Chris and I got bored of our game. So I was sitting on the floor and he was laying down on the couch. We just talked. He talked about Laura, and how they were doing good. She seemed to be a good fit with him. Sometime my little brother could get some crazy stupid ideas but instead of pushing him to go with them she made him think about it on his own. She didn’t seem to put him down which I was happy, also I didn’t expect anything less from Leah’s best friend.
He told me how he was happy to see me with Leah.
‘It’s like you never went away, like she brings out the best side of you.’ He told me.
He made me smile because I knew it was true. She made everything in my life better.
‘You know if she heard us talking like this, we’d never hear the end of it right?’ I asked him.
He laughed, ‘Yeah I know, we’re like a couple of chicks talking about our boyfriends.’ He said.
I laughed because I knew it was true. We were gossiping about our girls.
‘What do you think they are doing?’ Chris asked.
‘How the hell should I know!?’ I asked him.
‘I don’t know, you can read her pretty well though, I just though you could…I don’t know.’ He said.
‘Yeah, I can pretty see what she’s thinking if she’s in front of me, not across town you idiot.’ I told him, shaking my head.
‘I’m tired.’ He told me.
‘Yeah me too, it’s almost 1am, she should get here soon then I’ll go too bed.’ I told him.
‘Ok.’ He said.
‘I’ll close some lights so you can sleep, I’ll go take a shower.’ I told him.
‘Thanks.’ He answered.
I got up, closed a few lights and went in the bathroom. I started the shower and made sure the water was hot enough. I had knots in my back and neck, hoping the hot water would help with that.
Taking off my clothes I wished Leah was with me. It would be more interesting. I got in and when the water hit my back, I straighten out a bit. The water was hot and I let it hit my back, moving my self forwards then backwards so it would get my whole back. After awhile I started washing my hair and then washed the rest of my body. I wanted to smell nice when Leah got home. With just my brother here, I couldn’t care any less but I liked it when Leah would come near me and I could hear her breathe me in. Smiling at myself I finished taking the rest of my shower and taking my sweet time.
I put a towel around my waist and left the bathroom. I looked around to see if Leah was home. I checked on Chris and he was passed out on the couch. I went into the bedroom and got dressed then came back out.
I grabbed my cell and called Leah’s phone. I rang and rang but she didn’t answer. I check the time, 1:45am. Maybe she fell asleep at Laura’s, I thought. I went back in the living room and woke Chris up.
‘What the fuck dude!’ Chris yelled out when I woke him.
‘She’s not back.’ I told him, that woke him up a little more.
‘Ok? Maybe she’s late.’ He said.
‘It’s almost 2 in the morning. Can you call Laura’s cell phone and check? Maybe they fell asleep during a movie or something.’ I asked him. Hope it was a simple explanation.
Chris got up and went to the kitchen table and grabbed his cell.
He put the phone to his ear and waited.
‘Hey baby.’ He said.
‘Yeah sorry, I know it’s late.’
‘Listen, when is Leah leaving your place?’ he asked her.
‘Really?’
‘When?’
His whole face changed and he checked the clock.
‘Um, listen I’ll call you back.’
‘No, I can’t explain right now, I’ll call you back I promise I have to go, sorry.’ He said and hung up the phone.
I could tell he was thinking but he wasn’t talking and that is what I needed.
‘Chris! What did she say?!’ I almost yelled out.
‘She said Leah left before 12.’ He said looking at me.
‘How long does it take from there to here?’ I asked him.
‘Between 30 to 45 minutes.’ He said.
‘So she should have been here, about 12:30 latest 1am?’ I asked him.
‘Yeah.’ He whispered.
I got my phone out again and tried calling her again.
‘Damn it!’ I said closing my phone and closing my eyes.
Don’t cry, keep calm, you can’t afford to panic right now, I told myself.
‘Get dress, now.’ I told him.
‘Where are we going?’ he asked.
‘Cops.’ I said.
‘You don’t know where she is?’ he asked me.
‘She’s with her father.’ I told him getting my coat and myself ready.
‘How do you know?’ he asked me.
‘Because she told me last week that this was about to happen.’ I said to him.
‘Ok, how did she know?’ he asked me as he was getting ready himself.
‘Because the money stopped coming in, that’s the reason why we were moving.’ I told him.
He stopped asking questions, I called a cab and when we were both ready we went downstairs to wait for the cab.
