After the Tournament of Power Thorn informed Gohan that while he had vastly improved for the tournament, Thorn could also sense that he wasn't at the peak of his power. Gohan felt this as well and said to Thorn that he wanted to train however he wanted to train with Thorn this time as Gohan knew about the way that Thorn trained in order to gain mass amounts of strength. Thorn agreed however he also told Gohan that if he were to have second thoughts during training that Thorn would halt it immediately. This meant that Gohan had to fight no matter what happened and that should he ever consider quitting during their training, Thorn would quit on him and leave Gohan behind.

Thorn and Gohan entered the GodVoid however almost immediately Gohan felt the immense pressure and realized he couldn't move. Thorn then said to Gohan while channeling his Kaioken "Control your energy, you won't move unless you do." Gohan nodded under the pressure and after a few moments he was able to stand up, Thorn then said to Gohan "Power up to that form you used in the tournament, I'm going to fight you in Kaioken...if you can beat me before my energy runs out then I will jump to Super Saiyan." Gohan nodded and during their training he already knew about how Thorn would train him, each time Gohan would 'win' against Thorn a new challenge would present itself to Gohan. This meant he would get to see how strong his so called uncle was and he could finally show off how much he had improved during his solo training. The fight started with both fighters clashing in the void and during this clash neither fighter had the advantage until finally Gohan was able to slip past Thorn and deliver a punch that sent Thorn flying. Gohan followed up with a few strings of punches and kicks before he fired his Masenko hitting Thorn and sending him to the ground. Thorn slowly stood up as the lower in the void you were, the more pressure there was to hold you down. Once he finally got to Gohan's position he said to him "Not bad....looks like Kaioken isn't enough for you! Guess I need to go Super Saiyan then!" Thorn's Kaioken faded away as he began to channel his Super Saiyan form which from Gohan's perspective looked like this:
Gohan stared at Thorn's Super Saiyan form and he could sense that while this form was weak compared to what he had seen from his father, Vegeta and Thorn, Gohan could tell that Thorn wasn't going to lose easily. The two fighters clashed again and again each time however the outcome was same as before, Thorn being a full blooded Saiyan hated getting beat in a fight however this time he was actually enjoying himself as finally he could consider going all out against Gohan. During their fight it was clear that even going Super Saiyan wasn't going to be enough to fight against Gohan's mystic form, Thorn thought to himself while catching his breath (Damn! At this rate I won't be able to keep up, I'd best stop holding back and get serious!) Thorn then said before he transformed once more "I'm going all out Gohan! I'm wasting my time fighting you like this!" Gohan nodded and waited for Thorn to jump to the next level but that didn't happen as Thorn jumped beyond normal super Saiyan forms and went into his God form which looked like this:
Gohan looked at this form and said while taking his usual combat stance "So you decided to make yourself faster? Alright I'm intrigued by this challenge!" Thorn didn't speak however his body language told Gohan all he needed to know as Gohan could tell that Thorn was telling him "Don't get cocky." Thorn stared down Gohan and in a matter of a second he had attacked Gohan with a high powered kick that sent the hybrid Saiyan flying, Gohan stopped himself and as he went to fire a blast at Thorn he failed to notice that Thorn had moved behind him as in a mere instant! Gohan thought to himself (He's faster than Dad! How is this possible?!) Thorn then kicked Gohan upwards and then started to attack with a flurry of punches that were targeting his chest making Gohan wonder if he could break away from Thorn. Gohan then went to use an attack for a break however Thorn senses this coming and kicked Gohan away while saying "That won't work against me....my speed is too high for that to work." Gohan then charged at Thorn only to be met with Thorn wanting to clash punches and kicks again! The two fighters continued to clash however Gohan wasn't feeling pressured and neither was Thorn, it seemed that they were enjoying themselves as from Gohan's eyes this fight was allowing him to sharpen his senses and skills and as for Thorn this fight was allowing him to see where Gohan's combat skills were and gauge where and how he could help Gohan. Thorn rushed Gohan once more and this time he said to him while clashing punches and kicks "Concentrate Gohan. I can sense your energy is wavering." Gohan was able to get some distance from Thorn and this time Gohan powered up his Mystic form and clashed again! The clash was nothing more than a stalemate where it just went back and forth until finally Thorn sent Gohan flying backwards thanks to a force of energy. The full-blooded Saiyan stared at Gohan and said to him "Time to go all out! Feast your eyes on Super Saiyan Blue!" Thorn powered up and as he did his mind flashed images of a new form hidden away and this made the Saiyan charge after it which ended up making Gohan see a flash of darker blue light, this light began to fade away and all Gohan could see was this:
Thorn stood there as his energy settled down and this time Thorn could sense that this was a Godly variation of that form Vegeta calls Super Vegeta. Gohan observes this form and realized immediately the amount of power that it contained and he knew that this fight was over....however he wasn't about to quit yet. His powered spiked to its maximum and just as he charged at Thorn Gohan noticed that he had vanished once again! His eyes and senses scanned the area around him only he couldn't figure out where Thorn went even with Thorn being in his Godly form, Thorn then reappeared while saying to Gohan "Hard to keep up with me isn't it?" Gohan faced where Thorn was only to see him standing there with his arms folded, Gohan fired a small blast at Thorn and this was where Gohan was confused. The attack hit Thorn however instead of taking damage or deflecting it, the attack went through Thorn making the hybrid Saiyan look shocked at this. What Gohan didn't realize was that Thorn didn't just vanish but he was using his Afterimage technique that he had learned way back when he was a child! The attack worked perfectly as he was able to get closer and closer to Gohan until finally he was able to deliver a Ki laced punch that knocked Gohan out. Thorn towered over the hybrid Saiyan and said while still in his darker blue form "Not bad....but you still have a long way to go before I can task you with fighting in my stead." Thorn then powered down and hovered a few feet away while trying to attain that form he was using earlier, this amount of energy output woke up Gohan watched as Thorn's body shook from the pressure of his energy and the sheer force from this caused Gohan to feel the room's weight increase. Thorn finally found it and this time he attained the form that Vegeta had used only this time he had been able to give it a name, Thorn called this Super Saiyan Royal Blue! Gohan smiled brightly and said while getting closer to Thorn "Amazing! You reached that form from earlier again! You're something else Thorn!" He eyed the hybrid and said just like Goku did when first discovering Super Saiyan 2 "I can go one step further if I wanted to..." Gohan moved back as Thorn powered up even further and this time his body howled in pain and exhaustion however Thorn ignored this and pushed on digging deep into the well of power he knew he had, this time Thorn transformed again only for Gohan to see this:
Thorn stood there long enough to say to Gohan "This is my absolute...my true form and my true full power. This is what I call Super Saiyan Blue level 3...." Just then Thorn powered down and began to fall forwards from exhaustion however Gohan caught him and said into Whis's staff "Dispel the GodVoid..." This caused the heavy weight of the room to fade away while Whis recalled his staff bringing the two fighters back to Beerus's planet. Gohan held Thorn up long enough for Whis to notice and cause a small bed to appear for Thorn to rest on, as the Saiyan rested Gohan said to Whis and Beerus "Thorn was able to reach that long haired blue form of his again....he also reached Vegeta's blue form when he fought Jiren with Dad." Beerus smiled to himself while Whis simply stayed in his thoughts saying to himself (So....it appears that Thorn is strong enough to reach Vegeta's form and his own? This Saiyan is definitely a candidate should Beerus ever consider it.) As Gohan as well as Whis and Beerus chatted on about how they could improve Gohan's energy and skills, Thorn was inside of his mind fighting a battle with his energy.
(Thorn's Mind)
As the Saiyan observed what all had transpired in his life over the years he also learned about his mind began to keep thoughts of his energy usage and how he burned through it trying to make himself stronger and faster than Gohan who was using his Mystic form. His mind then conjured up a fight against Bardock again only this time Bardock was able to match Thorn's energy and skills! The fight was taxing him mentally but finally he was able to get a small gap long enough to say to Bardock "now this is a fight." For some reason Bardock was ignoring Thorn and only focusing on a fight which was unusual as Bardock would always say something to Thorn regardless of what was said, Bardock then said with a darker voice and his body glowing with a dark aura "Time for you to die Saiyan!"
(Beerus's planet)
Thorn woke up in a cold sweat while being surrounded by Beerus, Whis and Gohan only for the Saiyan to hear from Whis "Thorn. Are you alright?" The Saiyan looked at his arms and legs which was weird for Whis and Beerus yet for Thorn this was normal as what happened to him felt so real. He then said to Whis while standing up slowly "No...I think someone from my past is coming back." Whis thought this was normal but Beerus said with his eyes closed and his arms behind his back "You're talking about that Saiyan who raised you right?" Thorn nodded and then he said to everyone there "The Saiyan who raised me is named Bardock...I think when he comes back he will possessed by someone or something and try to kill me." Beerus listened as he had heard about this before from Vegeta and Goku however he didn't believe it until now, Thorn confirmed this suspicion when he said to the group "In my mind he was able to match my Blue forms....if that's the case then I doubt I can win that fight." Thorn then faced Gohan and said " Get ready to train even harder than you have before Gohan, we may need you to be at your peak if we need you."
