crochet our fingers together with memory coloured yarn
pattern our behaviours with the same strokes
is this the scarf you want?
is this all just a hoax?
sitting together in mind murder silence
the ticking of clocks and the clacking of needles
i thought we could find a balance
but all we are is tangled in a lesser of two evils
try to patch a cigarette burn
and mend only the artificial holes
ones that were built and learned
it's like you try to unstitch our goals
i knit my plea in red so you could see
my desperate need for a new project
a fabric of yellow and our hands free
but you needed something more direct
a sewing machine of fine silks and taffeta
a body without the need for a measuring tape
a grandmother's knitting stamina
colours and patterns that make the perfect escape
we work side by side, working at the same pace
both needing more, both with our fingers tightly laced
