I remember the day
When my first tooth fell
I'd been out on the playground
When I heard the school bell
Instantly my legs-
Picked up speed
My mind was elsewhere
As my body took the lead
I ran and ran
But before I knew-
I was on the ground
With two untied shoes
My frock was stained
With damp brown mud
And out my mouth-
Poured crimson blood
I let out a cry
As I viewed the sight
For in that puddle
Was a glimmer of white
I fished out my tooth,
Tried to fit it back
I'd lost my crown-
Just like Jack
I went home with a frown
Too big for my face
I didn't dare to smile
With my tooth not in place
Mom wrapped me in her arms
And whispered in my ear
That this happened to everyone;
I had nothing to fear
As old teeth fall
New ones grow
I had to learn
To let it go
Now I realize
That people are the same
Old friends went
But new ones came
I still miss the old,
But am thankful for the new
And every time I lost,
A part of me grew.
