“I, Evangeline Bowman, reject you, Derek Roman, as my mate,” I said, clutching him to dear life as I felt the pain of our bond breaking.
It was as easy as breaking a bone. It was as painful as cutting off your leg.
He growled in pain, pushing me away as he clutched his head groaning.
I starred, unable to do anything. I just caused him pain, but it was to prevent future heartbreak.
I didn’t want to lead him on because we both knew it would never get anywhere.
Maybe in a different life, I thought.
After a few minutes, the pain had ceased, from both our ends.
His face was void of any emotions, but eventually he came around.
“Are you….. alive?” I asked him.
That earned me a chuckle as he shook his head, “Obviously, I’m dead and burning in hell.”
I tisked, “Oh please, I wouldn’t let you escape my wrath so easily.”
He wasn’t amazing, but he seemed to be alright.
He suddenly hugged me, placing a light kiss on my forehead.
“Thank you,” he said, but I couldn’t look at him.
It was strangely like something in me had vanished.
“I feel empty, but trust me, I’d rather be forcibly told that you don’t love me rather than leap on hoping,” I just nodded as we began walking back.
“I will always want you though,” he said, making me stop.
I didn’t know what to say, other than, “And I will always want cookies, but life isn’t fair.”
He laughed, but it was humorless.
“It’ll take me a while, but I can get passed the pain. Its for the better,” and we stopped talking after that. What could we even say?
I just rejected the poor guy!
There was much noise around the camp, everyone talking in loud voices as we approached.
I caught sight of Will, but Will had already seen Derek beside me.
Before I could say anything, Will was grabbing Derek’s shirt.
I grabbed Will’s arm, pulling him back before his black eyes attacked Derek to death.
I think they were talking to each other in their head, but Will stopped dead in his tracks, starring at Derek.
The entire pack was swarmed around us as they tried to see what was going on. After a minute, Will nodded his head, and Derek bowed.
What was happening?
Derek gave me one last smile as he sprinted towards the woods, and somehow, out of my life.
I looked at Will with a blank expression, as he grabbed my hand and dragged me to the front of our tent.
“What did you d…” but before I could get the words out, he put a finger over my lips.
“He’s fine,” he said, completely sure of himself. I believed him.
“What are you…?” I began once again.
He shushed me as the pack was completely silent.
He suddenly dropped to his knee, looking up lovingly into my eyes. I couldn’t help but stare back at him just the same.
I didn’t expect what happened next though.
He pulled out a ring, a gorgeous, white gold ring with diamonds that formed a flower.
“Evangeline Bowman, my beautiful, intelligent, magnificent mate, will you accept me, William Princeton, as yours and only yours? Will you do me the greatest honor of blessing me with your company for the rest of my life? Will you marry me and only me because I promise to love you every day, for now and forever, even after death do us part?”
I was surprised.
No, I was freaking surprised!
He just proposed!
He asked me to freaking marry him!
Me and Will, married. By human law!
Someone coughed, everyone waiting expectantly for my response.
“No $hit, I want to marry you!” I screamed as he grabbed my waist and twirled me around, kissing me repeatedly.
The pack cheered, whistling, and cheering, “long may you reign!”
I couldn’t believe it.
We were getting married!
