*Andre’s Point-of-View*

“Wait.” I heard Dmitri call, surprising Quinton and I. I turned around and stared as Dmitri walked closer to us. What could he possibly have to say now? Did he want to say more hurtful things without any regard to my feelings? I was a little nervous not knowing what to expect.

“Yes?” I said. Dmitri sucked on his bottom lip for a minute before saying anything. It was really sexy.

“I’m sorry Andre…there’s really no reason I should just be going off on you like this.” Dmitri calmly said, looking at me and to Quinton. I was surprised at this. Was he really apologizing?

“I shouldn’t have tried to push anything on you. So for that, I’m sorry.” I replied, smiling a little. Dmitri looked off to the side, sucking on his bottom lip again. Man, it was really just too sexy when he did that. Quinton was still standing by my side, looking between Dmitri and I.

“Look, I am still very tired. I worked last night and was up all day. Didn’t really get to sleep…” Dmitri said, seeming to trail off. I knew in other words, he had been with someone all night with some guy. It was really disappointing thinking about it, but I have to remember that me and him aren’t even anything. I barely know the guy.

“Well, I guess if that’s it…” I started saying, getting ready to say my goodbye to him. But then Dmitri held his hand out with the palm up. I wasn’t sure what was going on.

“Your phone.” He said, rolling his eyes. Oh my god! Was he saving his number in my phone? I looked at Quinton who shrugged and nodded in Dmitri’s direction. I pulled my phone out and unlocked it, finally handing it to him. Dmitri saved his number in my phone then called it. I could then hear his phone ring and he handed me back my phone once he hung up the line.

“Look, I don’t want you to get your hopes up, but I’ll at least try to stay in contact with you. But I’m about to head home to…you know…catch some z’s.” Dmitri said, clearly seeming uneasy. I simply nodded, staring at his number in my phone. There was a big ass smile on my face as Dmitri disappeared into the distance.

“You happy?” Quinton chuckled out.

“Yes, I really am.” I said, letting out a breath. I then threw my arms around Quinton, hugging him tightly. “And thank you for helping me talk to him by being here for me.” I added, smiling.

“Oh. Haha. Uh it’s no problem, Andre.” Quinton replied, laughing a bit. I felt like I might’ve made him uncomfortable so I let him go.

“I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable.” I apologized. Quinton looked around and shook his head.

“You’re fine. I don’t feel uncomfortable at all. You could never make me feel that way.” He answered, rubbing the side of his neck and smiling. I couldn’t help but blush and smile. We were both silent for a while.

“Let head to somewhere and eat. I’m kinda starvin’.” Quinton finally said, breaking the silence. I nodded, and we made our move to a nice little place downtown, where we just talked a bit and enjoyed the rest of the night.

I rolled over in my bed, looking at the clock. It was a little after 10am, so I got up out of bed and headed to the bathroom to pee and brush my teeth. Yesterday was pretty nice, and only got better when Dmitri gave me his number. I wasn’t sure when I would call or text him, because honestly I was still scared to it. What if I call him and he cuss me out? I mean, it’s possible right? I shook away my thoughts and finished brushing my teeth, before heading to the kitchen to fix myself breakfast. But then my phone rang. I looked at the screen to see that it was my mother calling. I quickly put the skillet down and rushed to the phone.

“Hey mom!” I exclaimed, answering the phone.

“Hey baby, I was just calling to check on you. Haven’t heard from you in a few days.” My mother replied on the other end.

“Yeah, I’m fine mom, just been enjoying the summer here.” I said, propping myself against my fridge.

“Are you sure you’re OK? I know the last time I heard from you, you were telling me you left Keith.” She stated. I rolled my eyes at the sound of his name. Keith was probably one of the few guys my parents had knew of and met. Thinking that me and Keith would last, I had invited him and my parents to a dinner a few weeks ago.

“Mom, I promise you I’m fine. I know there’s someone out there for me. But anyway, how’s dad?” I asked, trying to change the subject.

“Your dad is fine. He is trying to start a non-profit organization out in New York.” My mom explained.

“Oh that’s cool. Where are you at?” I asked.

“Currently, I’m at a photo shoot in Miami.” She replied. It must’ve been nice traveling the world all the time. Her and my father always brought me souvenirs when they visited.

“Ah! The sunshine state.” I said, smiling. My mother laughed subtly.

“Well baby, I’m going to get ready to get back to work. Oh, just to let you know, me and your father put $2500 into your account last night just in case you needed it.” My mother told me.

“Thanks mom. I love you. Take care!”

“I love you too! Be good!” She said before hanging up. I sat my phone on the counter and finished preparing me something to eat.

After I ate, I stared at my phone for a while. I really wanted to call Dmitri, but my fear was too great to even do it. It was probably pushing closer to noon now so I figured he should be up by now. My heart pounded as I went into my contacts and tapped his name. I bit my bottom lip as I listened to the ringing. It’s like, I didn’t want him to answer, just so I wouldn’t have to speak to him directly. Instead, I was going to just leave a voicemail. After about a couple more rings, his voicemail began with the automated voice. Thank goodness. I let out a sigh of relief as the voice spoke, then waited until the beep.

“Hey Dmitri, this is Andre. I was just calling to say hi. I know there wasn’t much to talk about but yeah. Talk to you later.” I was really nervous leaving the message. With that out the way, I went and showered and threw on some sweatpants and a beater. For some reason, I was feeling very lazy. Today, I knew I wouldn’t be able to hang out with Quinton because he told me last night that he was going on a date. So I knew I’d be experiencing boredom today. But then the unexpected happened.

My phone was ringing, and when I looked at my phone, I got real nervous. I was very hesitant, but after a while, I answered the phone.

“Hello?” I said.

“Hey…” Dmitri answered, almost inaudible. His voice sounded so cute on the phone.

“I wasn’t expecting you to call back.” I chuckled nervously. There was a pause.

“I bet. I know I might be an asshole at times but I mean, I gave you my number and I would’ve been more so pissed if you didn’t utilized it.” He replied, sounding a bit nice. But, there was still the hint of sarcasm. I smiled.

“Well, I didn’t really have much to talk about. I guess I wanted to just call you.” I explained honestly.

“Yeah, I heard the voicemail. How about we…chill?” Dmitri asked slowly. My eyes went wide and I couldn’t hide my excitement.

“YES! SURE! WHEN?” I asked happily.

“Ah calm down. Don’t make me regret doing this.” He said. I took in a breath and let it out slowly, calming myself down.

“OK, where do you want to hang out?” I asked, still smiling.

“Let’s go to lunch I guess.” Dmitri suggested.

“OK, we can go to Golden Corral?”

“I mean, I was going to suggest McDonald’s…but let’s go with your suggestion.” He said in all seriousness. I couldn’t help but laugh because I knew he really was serious. “Don’t laugh, I was so serious.” He added, chuckling a little. I never heard him really just laugh.

“I’ll pick you up.” I told him.

“Well of course.” Dmitri said, laughing. Yeah, that was his asshole quality showing. But all I could do was laugh too.

“See you in an hour.” I said. He agreed and we ended the call. I hopped up and down. Could this really be happening? Dmitri actually wanted to hang out with me? I definitely had to change my outfit now. But since I knew that this technically was not a “date”, I’d still keep it simple. I took my sweatpants off and went through my closet and found some jeans. After that, I slipped on one of my necklaces and grabbed a snapback. I felt very casual, but not underdressed.

I texted Dmitri for his address and got a response back pretty quickly. The drive there was lengthy but worth it. If I didn’t have the money I did, I’d probably never drive as much as I do since gas is so expensive, but by the grace of God and the fortune I have, I don’t worry about it. When I was sitting outside his apartment, I felt really uncomfortable. The area looked scary to me. Being born and raised in a suburban area around other privileged kids really didn’t have me prepared for this. I locked my doors and sat nervously as I waited for Dmitri to come down. After several minutes, Dmitri appeared.

“Hey Dmitri!” I exclaimed as he got in. He rolled his eyes.

“You look like you’re about to piss yourself.” He said chuckling. My cheeks heated up at him saying this.

“I’m fine.” I assured, driving quickly out of this area.

“Sure you are, but whatever.” Dmitri uttered. I noticed him staring at me from the corner of my eye but I didn’t say anything. Last thing that I wanted to do was call him out and something and he snaps.

“You look really nice.” Dmitri suddenly said with a shrug. I looked over at him and he was still staring.

“Thank you.” I replied smiling.

“You actually look like you’d fit right into the hood wearing what you’re wearing.” He added, turning his focus out the window. I rolled my eyes, not sure how to respond to it. Dmitri made little comments throughout the drive, sparking little conversation at times. He was clearly out of his element, and in all honesty, so was I.

We arrived at Golden Corral and headed inside. It didn’t take long for Dmitri and I to be seated. Dmitri seemed really happy to be at a buffet. A waiter came over to help us with drinks before we’d just go and grab our food. Once we got our drinks, we headed to get the food we wanted. I swear it was like Dmitri was in a candy store as he filled his plate with so many things. It’s hard to believe he’d be so greedy with a body like that.

“So much food.” I said smiling, as he returned to the table.

“Hell yeah. This is probably one of the best things you could’ve done.” Dmitri said sitting down, beginning to chow down. It was pretty interesting none the least.

“So what made you decide to even give your number to me?” I asked after a while. I figured if there was any time to ask Dmitri questions, it would be while he’s around food.

“Honestly, I don’t know.” Dmitri answered with a shrug. “Maybe because you looked so pathetic yesterday.” He added. I shook my head.

“Pathetic?” I asked.

“Ah, just chill. Andre, I just really felt I didn’t need to be that mean. Damn. Is that a better answer?” He asked, eating more of his food.

“I guess. I don’t want to ruin our time here.” I said.

“Well, that won’t happen. Of course unless you end up in your feelings. But, I’m trying. It’s weird, but I am trying.” Dmitri said, staring dead at me. When I stared into his eyes, I could see the fear lingering in them. It’s like, he was calling out for help and attention. It seemed like that kind of vibe.

“I’ll try not to ask you too many questions. I just want to make conversation.” I said softly. Dmitri glanced up from his food again, looking at me. A smirk seemed to play on lips as he looked away from me now. But he didn’t say anything, he simply finished up his food. I ate mines and just leaned back a little.

“Andre.” Dmitri said.

“Hmm?”

“Go ahead and ask me what you want to know.” He said nonchalantly. But I knew he was scared as he couldn’t look me in my eyes while giving me permission to ask him stuff. I hope that this doesn’t end badly.
